Chapter 3

William Carter shook his head and said, “I don’t know! Even if I go back now, I’m afraid there’s little I can do. The Northern and Southern Hongmen have already formed an alliance, which means they’re basically unified. If I go back, what could I possibly do?”

Charles Foster said, “You could squeeze out David Harris! How can such a huge Hongmen be left to him alone!?”

William Carter smiled slightly, clasped his hands behind his back and gazed at the sunset, speaking softly: “Even the brightest sun must eventually set—let alone a person, right?”

Charles Foster pondered his words and was about to ask a question when William Carter turned and asked, “I heard there’s a new gang rising up now, called the Green Gang.”

“Yes!” Charles Foster nodded and said, “They claim their founder is Du Yuesheng, and they’ve set up branches in many places across the country. It’s just that when Brother Eric was around, they hadn’t surfaced yet. Only after Brother Eric left did the Green Gang suddenly become high-profile. Recently, they’ve been clashing fiercely with the Taiwan Hongmen.”

William Carter raised his eyebrows and asked, “The Green Gang’s influence has already extended to Taiwan?”

Charles Foster said, “They do have major branches in Taiwan. There’s word that they actually originated in Taiwan and only later expanded to the mainland. However, the Green Gang’s headquarters is in China—that much is true.”

“Hmm!” William Carter looked up, silently pondering in his heart. What Charles Foster said was basically the same as the information he’d received from the Dark Group. Judging from this, a clash between Hongmen and the Green Gang was only a matter of time. After all, there’s only one China, and there can only be one emperor of the underworld!

He gently tapped his forehead and asked, “Brian, who do you think would win if Hongmen and the Green Gang fought right now?”

Chapter 2

Charles Foster answered without hesitation, “Of course Hongmen would win!” He had poured too much emotion into Hongmen and knew its strength too well. He felt that after the unification of North and South, Hongmen was definitely the top force in China’s underworld. Even worldwide, it could easily rank in the top ten. After speaking, Charles Foster saw William Carter smile without saying a word, so he quickly added, “This isn’t just my opinion—every brother in Hongmen thinks the same.”

“Haha!” William Carter laughed lightly, sat down on the ground, and said, “That’s exactly the problem. As the saying goes, pride comes before a fall! The Green Gang has been lurking for so long, yet their influence has grown to the point where their branches are all over the country. Their boss can’t be an ordinary person. I’m not sure how strong the Green Gang really is, but I doubt they’re stronger than Hongmen. Still, in Hongmen’s current state, if a real fight broke out, I’m afraid we’d suffer. David Harris should realize this.”

Charles Foster blinked, not really taking it to heart, his face full of indifference.

Of course, William Carter could see what he was thinking, but he didn’t bother to explain further. After all, that was just Charles Foster’s personality—saying he was arrogant would be putting it mildly.

Charles Foster settled down on Jile Island, living a leisurely and carefree life just like William Carter. Sometimes, when he got bored, he and William Carter would take a helicopter to Australia, then transfer to other places around the world. The relaxed lifestyle was enjoyable, but after a while, just like Sarah Thompson, he started to feel restless, as if something was missing from his life. William Carter told him that what was missing here was the passionate rush of adrenaline.

He often wondered how someone like Brother Eric could possibly live in the isolated Jile Island for so long, and why he hadn’t returned to China yet. After all, that’s where Hongmen was, and where he had founded the Wendong Society with his own hands. He couldn’t figure out what was on William Carter’s mind. He wanted to ask several times, but whenever he saw him with Linda Parker, with that warm, sincere, and innocent smile on his face, he just couldn’t bring himself to ask. For a while, he even thought that maybe Brother Eric had come to enjoy this kind of life.

A month later, an unexpected guest arrived on Jile Island—David Harris.

His visit surprised Charles Foster, but it was within William Carter’s expectations.

This time, David Harris came to Jile Island with only one person by his side—Henry Bennett, once one of the Eight Heavenly Kings.

After William Carter and David Harris met, there was naturally some polite small talk. It had been half a year since they last saw each other, and their relationship had shifted from being mortal enemies to close collaborators. Looking back on their past grudges, both of them couldn’t help but sigh.

By the seaside, William Carter had specially built a house for receiving guests. At this moment, William Carter and David Harris were sitting inside the room.

David Harris looked around and nodded to himself. From this house, one could tell that William Carter was very wealthy. There wasn’t a single wooden plank or piece of cement in the building materials—the entire house was made of tempered glass. It stood a dozen meters from the shore, built out over the sea, half above the water and half below. Inside, you could often see schools of fish swimming by, making it feel as if you were in the Dragon Palace. Even the furnishings inside were made of glass, giving the whole room a sense of transparency.

Never mind how much it would cost to manufacture such a massive amount of tempered glass—just transporting it to this small island would be no small expense.

At this moment, a young man came forward to pour tea. The fresh fragrance of the tea, mingled with the scent of the sea, drifted through the room, refreshing everyone’s spirits.
