Chapter 15

Is this what you call going in?

This is called feeding, feeding your life away! The so-called technical advantage of a 3v3 is hard to show in front of Huang Zhong who has already set up his cannon. After all, a set-up Huang Zhong doesn’t need to move, just basic attacks—he could play with his nose and it’d be the same. No matter how weak a newbie’s skills are, for this operation there’s no difference from a pro. So what advantage could The Harris Family possibly have?

If David Bolton and his two teammates can’t even make this basic judgment, they shouldn’t even talk about being in the King rank. This time, the three didn’t even need to communicate—they just slunk away together in defeat.

“We can’t fight head-on anymore, we’ll have to look for a chance to ambush,” David Bolton said weakly.

They lost a kill, lost the Tyrant, and lost jungle farm. Not even four minutes in, and in this 3v3 match, the gold gap had already widened to nearly 3000. All three of The Harris Family knew exactly what that meant. The oppressive atmosphere spread among them, and even their nearby teammates could feel it. In the game, you can start spectating a friend’s match three minutes after it begins. That means many people had just started watching the opening, but the match itself was already nearing its end. Those standing behind the three, watching the live game, could already sense it.

It all depended on the next fight.

The three from The Harris Family refused to give up, pinning their final hopes on the upcoming jungle contest. With a full economic disadvantage, they didn’t dare face Ryan Harris head-on, so they prepared to set up an ambush. When the jungle monsters respawned, they hurried in, but just as they were about to dive into the bush, a burly man suddenly leapt out, followed by an annoying mage, then Huang Zhong’s set-up cannon, and that familiar cannon sound.

They wanted to ambush, but the enemy beat them to it. If they couldn’t win a fair fight, how could they win after being ambushed? In almost an instant, all three from The Harris Family fell.

“Damn! Ethan Harris that crazy woman, she even remembers the jungle respawn timers on this map so clearly! How nuts is she?!” Only now did David Bolton realize the key issue. In King’s Canyon, jungle monsters respawn: buff monsters every 90 seconds, regular monsters every 70 seconds. But on the Changping Siege map, the respawn times are clearly different. The other team obviously knew the jungle timers on this map, always timing their entry into the jungle perfectly, which let them seize every opportunity in the jungle economy. With the fast respawn pace, the gap between the teams widened rapidly. This was something the three from The Harris Family, unfamiliar with Changping Siege, had no idea about and didn’t notice. By the time they realized, there wasn’t even a one-in-ten-thousand chance of a comeback left.

Ryan Harris took the opportunity to start pushing mid. Their playstyle was exactly what David Bolton and his team didn’t want to see: Su Lie and Zhuge Liang protecting, Huang Zhong setting up and mindlessly dealing damage.

First tower, second tower, then the crystal. Although the three from The Harris Family respawned, they were powerless to stop the push, and the match ended in less than six minutes.

Chapter 7: Too Bad You Refused

“Well played!”

The moment The Harris Family’s crystal exploded, Ethan Harris was already enthusiastically praising her two teammates.

“Thanks.” Adam Bennett was excited too. This was his first time actually playing Honor of Kings after following it for so long. He had imagined countless times what it would be like to play, picturing scenes even more exciting than KPL pro matches. But only now did he realize that no matter how exaggerated his imagination, nothing compared to every minute of actually being in the game. Even though this was just a rarely played Changping Siege match, and the scene wasn’t as dazzling as he’d imagined, the excitement and joy from this victory was far stronger than any fantasy.

The only regret left in his heart was this: the match was just too short, and there were still so many things he wanted to experience.

But in the end, this was probably it.

Adam Bennett returned the phone to the classmate who had lent it to him, sincerely expressing his thanks. The other took the phone back, looking a bit embarrassed, glancing over at David Bolton. It was David Bolton who had generously allowed him to borrow the phone and account, only to end up with a crushing defeat for his own team. The three main players of The Harris Family were still holding their phones, faces full of indignation.

Ethan Harris, however, paid no attention to The Harris Family, her entire focus on Adam Bennett: “Great teamwork, classmate! I feel like we really have good chemistry. So, are you interested in joining our Ryan Harris team?”

Join the team?

The sudden invitation caught Adam Bennett off guard. Hadn’t he fantasized about this scene before? Back in middle school, there were plenty of classmates who played Honor of Kings, but his deliberate restraint and avoidance meant this moment only became reality today. Adam Bennett’s heart was excited, expectant, and longing, but when it came time to speak, he still refused.

Before Ethan Harris could try to persuade him further, the three from The Harris Family had already walked over, looking unconvinced.

“Not bad, Ethan Harris, you’re really that good at Changping Siege?” David Bolton said sarcastically.

“Not that good, but it’s more than enough to beat you guys,” Ethan Harris replied.
