Chapter 16

“You can stop bragging. The jungle monster respawn times on this map are completely different from King’s Canyon. If we’d known that earlier, do you think you would have won?” David Bolton said loudly. Clearly, he wasn’t just saying this to Ethan Harris, but also trying to save face and explain to the surrounding spectators. The fact that the main trio of the Royal Dynasty team got crushed by two members of浪7 plus a random player was enough to make them the laughingstock of the King’s Glory circle at Dongjiang University for a long time.

“The first two waves, maybe you didn’t know, but you never noticed after that?” Adam Bennett asked in confusion.

David Bolton was at a loss for words. If they’d been paying enough attention, they should have noticed by the second wave that the jungle monsters were respawning much faster. But at that time, the three from Royal Dynasty even ignored the Tyrant that respawned at two minutes, let alone kept track of these timings. By the time they realized, it was already too late. The pace of the Changping Offense and Defense map is much faster than King’s Canyon.

“If you can’t be aware yourself, don’t blame it on ignorance, okay?” Ethan Harris said with disdain. The excuse David Bolton tried to get the audience to accept immediately fell apart. Samuel Carter and William Clark hung their heads, as if wishing they could disappear, and David Bolton was red-faced, glaring at Adam Bennett for exposing them, when he suddenly realized: someone who could say that—how could they possibly be a newbie who doesn’t play King’s Glory?

“Classmate, you haven’t just heard of King’s Glory, have you?” David Bolton looked at Adam Bennett and asked.

“Never played, just know a bit about it,” Adam Bennett replied.

“Never played, but know a bit about it?” This made David Bolton suspicious, with a strong feeling he’d fallen into some kind of trap. But after all, he’d picked this random player himself; even if Ethan Harris was a genius, there was no way she could have guessed which person he’d choose from the crowd. So, thinking it over, it could only be chalked up to their bad luck.

“Fine, you got lucky this time. I’ll admit it.” Helpless, David Bolton could only concede.

“No, it’s you who got lucky. Out of so many people, you picked the best player for us. Regret it, don’t you?” Ethan Harris said.

“Don’t get cocky. It was just a Changping Offense and Defense match. I’ll be waiting for you浪7 in this semester’s intercollegiate league. Hope you can gather enough people and don’t get eliminated too early,” David Bolton said.

“Sure, see you at the tournament.” Ethan Harris replied calmly, but as she spoke, she patted Adam Bennett on the shoulder, as if already counting Adam Bennett as a member of浪7.

David Bolton wanted to argue more, but a clubmate hurried over and whispered something in his ear. David Bolton immediately seemed to remember something, and his attention shifted away from Ethan Harris and the others, quickly calling his teammates to leave.

“You just wait!” Before leaving, David Bolton shot the浪7 team a glare, including Adam Bennett in it.

Seeing this hostile and provocative look, Adam Bennett looked speechlessly at the person beside him: “Didn’t I just refuse?”

“Can’t you reconsider?” Ethan Harris asked.

“No need.” Adam Bennett replied firmly.

“That’s really a pity. I don’t know your reasons, but if you ever want to find some teammates, just come to me anytime. My name is Ethan Harris, third year in the Physics Department,” Ethan Harris said.

“Thank you.” Adam Bennett didn’t agree to anything, but his gratitude was sincere.

“I’ll be waiting.” Ethan Harris smiled. Seeing that smile, Adam Bennett suddenly remembered—wasn’t this the girl he almost bumped into in the hallway after leaving his brother’s office?

At this moment, Ethan Harris had already turned around, patting her teammate to signal it was time to go. Emily Carter, who had been so excited and full of anticipation, now looked completely disappointed after hearing Adam Bennett’s refusal. At Ethan Harris’s call, she regretfully glanced at Adam Bennett one more time, then silently followed Ethan Harris away. But they hadn’t gone far when suddenly Ethan Harris said, “Try to persuade him.”

“Huh?” Emily Carter was startled, turning to look at Ethan Harris, only to realize Ethan Harris wasn’t talking to her. The person she was speaking to had already passed by them and didn’t respond at all.

“Who?” Emily Carter asked in confusion.

“Brian Bennett.” Ethan Harris replied.

“Huh?”

“Brian Bennett from the Student Affairs Office.”

“Oh, oh, the former pro player, jungler for Team Tianze, Brian Bennett! Sigh, I always thought Team Tianze’s playstyle held back Brian Bennett, never gave him room to shine!” Emily Carter was usually quiet, but as soon as KPL pro players and matches were mentioned, he immediately started sharing his opinions, even forgetting why they were talking about Brian Bennett in the first place.

“The awkward thing is, the year after he retired, Team Tianze immediately won the Autumn Finals,” Ethan Harris said.

“Tianze’s new jungler, You Yazhong, is a completely different type from Brian Bennett. I can’t really say who’s stronger, but Tianze’s tactics seem to suit him better.” When Emily Carter talked about these things, he was full of energy, a far cry from the shy, silent Emily Carter who sat at浪7’s recruitment table and grinned foolishly whenever someone looked over.

“Tianze’s results have definitely become more stable since then. If Zhou Jin hadn’t missed the playoffs due to illness in the Spring Split, they might have won back-to-back championships,” Ethan Harris said.
