Chapter 9

A few days ago, when the injury hadn’t healed yet, Tiffany was doing quite well, serving Thunder every day. But these past few days, whenever Tiffany sees Thunder, she runs away and hides. It’s probably because Colin used to hit her a lot, so now Tiffany feels afraid of Thunder.

“I’m not going to hit you!” The sight of her made Thunder feel sorry for her, so he waved her over. “Come here.”

Tiffany made a little gesture behind her back, nervously and timidly walked over, and stopped five meters in front of Thunder.

“Are you reading those boring knight novels again?” Thunder glanced outside the door. On the ground, a handwritten notebook that Tiffany had thrown away was rustling in the wind.

Tiffany kept her head down and stayed silent, her face flushed red.

“Don’t read so much of that stuff, it’ll mess up your outlook on life and your values!” Thunder lectured her earnestly, though she probably didn’t understand. He walked over and wiped the corner of Tiffany’s mouth with his hand. The little girl tried to dodge, but couldn’t.

“Also, stop eating so many snacks!” Thunder tossed the sunflower seed shells in his hand onto the ground. “Eat more staple food. You’re at the age where you’re growing, so you need to eat more to grow up healthy and chubby.”

Snatching the bag of sunflower seeds from Tiffany’s hand, Thunder casually popped one into his mouth and cracked it open skillfully. Ever since Angus brought over some things, Tiffany had an endless supply of snacks and ate less at lunch than a cat.

“Young master… you too…” Tiffany pinched the hem of her clothes and looked up at Thunder.

“What about me?” Thunder curled his lips. “Your young master is already twenty-seven or twenty-eight, I don’t need to grow anymore.”

“Twenty!” Tiffany quietly corrected him.

He’d forgotten, Colin was indeed only twenty years old.

Embarrassed, he put the bag of sunflower seeds on the stone table nearby and waved to Tiffany: “Come with me.” The little girl tried to grab the sunflower seeds again, but Thunder pulled her away.

The family mansion was huge. Back when Colin’s old man was alive, he was at least a baron, deeply influenced by aristocratic ideas, and built the mansion to be grand and imposing. There were six or seven courtyards alone, but now only three people lived there, making it feel empty and desolate.

“A home needs some liveliness.” Thunder walked to where the garden used to be, now overgrown with weeds. “When you have time, talk to Uncle Oak and hire a few servants to come clean up the place. Every time I go out, I only see you or Uncle, the whole courtyard feels dead.”

Tiffany followed a few steps behind Thunder, softly responding.

There was a pavilion in the garden. Thunder jumped up onto it, then turned to look at Tiffany. The little girl didn’t have Thunder’s explosive energy, so she took a big detour and slowly walked up the steps from the other side.

Thunder felt a bit wicked.

“And that little pond over there, you could raise some goldfish. If goldfish are too expensive, just get some turtles and keep them in there. It’s just a pool of dead water, stinking.” Thunder pointed at the pond nearby.

“Tiffany understands. I’ll talk to Uncle Oak about it later.”

In the past, Colin didn’t manage the household, and Oak and Tiffany had to make a living, so they had no time to take care of these things.

Thunder straightened his clothes, jumped down from the pavilion, and Tiffany once again took a big detour, following behind the young master.

Thunder felt extremely cool. He thought his personality was somewhat influenced by Colin’s memories. He glanced back at Tiffany following behind him, and the little girl immediately stopped, always keeping a certain distance from Thunder.

The young girl was developing quite well, and her looks were above average, just a bit malnourished. But she was still growing, and after a few years of good care, she’d be quite something.

“Are you afraid of me?” Thunder felt a bit embarrassed. He was such a kind person, but Colin had ruined his reputation.

Tiffany nodded reflexively, then quickly shook her head.

“If you’re afraid, you’re afraid.” Thunder pursed his lips. “Don’t worry, I won’t hit you anymore. I was wrong before. The young master apologizes to you.”

“Young master… is a good person.” Tiffany quickly waved her hands, looking panicked.

“Good my ass!” Thinking back on everything Colin had done, he was basically a parasite on society, a mosquito sucking the blood of Tiffany and Uncle Oak!

The little girl hesitated, as if she wanted to say something.

“What are you thinking? Tell me.” Thunder plucked a blade of grass from the side and put it in his mouth.

“N-nothing.”

“Say it!” Thunder glared, and the little girl shrank her neck.

“We don’t want servants.” Tiffany mustered her courage and spoke her mind. “Servants will run away.”

When the Ullman family collapsed, all the servants ran off. That was only natural—they had to make a living, and Colin couldn’t even pay their wages anymore, so why would they stay?

Thunder could understand, but Tiffany clearly looked down on what those people did.

“If we don’t have servants, the three of us can’t manage this house.” Thunder looked around. “With seven or eight courtyards, just cleaning would wear you out.”

“Buy slaves!” Tiffany saw that the young master was different from before and was being kind, so she gradually relaxed. “Slaves don’t need to be paid, just give them food and shelter.”

Tiffany herself was a slave, bought when she was a child.

“And they won’t run away.” Tiffany saw Thunder didn’t respond, so her voice got quieter and quieter. “If the family ever ends up like before… the slaves can still be sold for money.”
