Chapter 2

Ryan Carter smiled and said, “Not necessarily. Although the mountain root is shrouded in mist, it also carries auspicious energy; a straight nose bridge, a mole between the brows—if it’s black, it’s usually lucky. This kind of face means help from benefactors and the ability to turn misfortune into fortune.”

“Really? She has a mole between her brows? How come I never noticed?”

“That’s a hidden mole, concealed and not obvious. The Bennett family’s heritage was never particularly strong in physiognomy.”

Ryan Carter said with a smile.

William Thompson chuckled and didn’t take it to heart.

Among the schools of practitioners, the Bennett family ranks second among the lower five sects. When it comes to expertise in physiognomy, they simply can’t compare to the Carter family of Jiangnan, who are among the top three. William Thompson only knows a little about it and has never put much effort into this area.

“Huh, Little Chili?”

Just after taking a couple of bites, William Thompson suddenly seemed to choke, his eyes widened in shock and disbelief.

This time, even Ryan Carter couldn’t help but turn his head for a look.

A flash of fiery red suddenly appeared before his eyes.

Beneath the fiery red hem of the skirt was a pair of long, fair, and springy legs, along with a pair of spotless white sneakers.

It was early spring, and the weather in the southwestern mountain city was still a bit chilly. Among the more than seven thousand students at Weizhou No. 1 High School, only one person dared to dress like this on campus.

Sean Miller!

Just like Ye Xiaotong, Sean Miller was also recognized as a school beauty at Weizhou No. 1 High, and rumor had it that the Miller family was even wealthier and more influential locally than the Foster family. Sean Miller’s father, Xiao Xiong, was a notable figure in all of Weizhou City, able to get along with people from all walks of life.

What’s going on today? Even Sean Miller has come to the cafeteria for lunch.

Sean Miller’s impact was clearly greater than Ye Xiaotong’s. The moment she appeared in the dining hall, she immediately drew the attention of the vast majority of people; some boys’ eyes were practically popping out.

As for the girls, some pouted, some glared, some were envious, and some were dismissive—every possible expression was on display.

Sean Miller paid no attention to any of this. Carrying a delicate insulated lunchbox, she walked straight over to sit across from Ryan Carter, gave a slight smile, and sat down with poise and confidence.

Although early romance is now quite common in high schools, there are still strict boundaries between boys and girls in daily life—especially at school.

Sean Miller was an exception.

She always did things her own way.

In this world, probably only her father could keep her in check.

Even the teachers were a bit put off by her unconventional ways, but no one could do anything about it since her grades were excellent—she was always in the top ten in the whole school, and even in the Olympiad class, she was a top student.

As a student, as long as your grades are good, everything else is a minor issue!

Regardless of gender.

Aside from wearing a bright red skirt and a snow-white shirt, Sean Miller didn’t have any other particularly unconventional features. Her hairstyle was a simple double ponytail, tied with rubber bands and hanging down her back. Her fair cheeks were tinged with a faint blush, radiating youthful beauty to the extreme.

The insulated lunchbox in Sean Miller’s hand wasn’t large, but when she opened it, there was quite a bit inside: several small stainless steel bowls and plates, each dish more fragrant than the last—braised pork, stir-fried pork intestines, sautéed kidney slices—all mouthwatering, making everyone’s appetite stir.

William Thompson stared wide-eyed.

These dishes, all rich and heavy, really didn’t seem like the kind of food a girl would eat.

She then brought out a small bowl of soup, and finally a small bowl of rice. Compared to the mountains of rice piled on Ryan Carter and William Thompson’s trays, this little bowl of rice was almost negligible.

At seventeen or eighteen, teenagers are still growing and have great appetites.

Sean Miller took out a dainty silver spoon, scooped up a small mouthful of rice, and brought it to her mouth with ladylike grace—quite at odds with her nickname, “Little Chili.”

She ate like this, alternating between rice and soup, without touching any of the meat dishes on the table.

It was as if those dishes were just there for show.

“Hey, Sean Miller, since you brought your own food from home, wouldn’t it be better to eat in the classroom? Why come here and join the crowd?”

Just as Ryan Carter expected, William Thompson finally couldn’t hold back and asked gloomily.

Although his own tray was piled with plenty of food, none of it could compare in color, aroma, or taste to the meat dishes in front of him.

Cafeteria food, after all!

Is this girl just here to show off?

Sean Miller smiled sweetly and said, “I’m the only one in the classroom. It’s too lonely—I can’t eat.”

“Can’t eat, huh? Then let me help you…”

William Thompson had been waiting for this. Before he finished speaking, he reached out with his long stainless steel spoon, scooped up a big piece of braised pork, and, without any hesitation, took a bite. Instantly, the dark red sauce dripped down the corner of his mouth—so fragrant and sweet.

Sean Miller wasn’t angry. Her bright, watery eyes turned to Ryan Carter’s face, and she said with a smile, “Ryan Carter, you should eat some too.”

William Thompson just grinned.

Now he understood why this girl suddenly came to the cafeteria for lunch—she had a purpose.

Ever since they entered Weizhou No. 1 High, there had been girls expressing interest in Ryan Carter from time to time, but this was the first time someone like Little Chili had done something like this.
