Chapter 10

The policewoman snorted.

This guy even calls himself an expert.

“You two sit down and make a statement first.”

With that, the policewoman ignored everything else, took out pen and paper, and got ready to start questioning.

“Jie…”

Before the statement could officially begin, the duty room door was pushed open again, and Sean Miller’s bright, pretty face peeked in.

“Sean Miller? What are you doing here?”

The policewoman was quite surprised to see Sean Miller.

“I came to see how your police station handles cases… Let me tell you, these two are my classmates. They acted in self-defense. You have no idea how bad those thugs were…”

Sean Miller slipped into the room, chattering nonstop, her big, watery eyes only darting around Ryan Carter.

It was obvious she was worried Ryan Carter would get the short end of the stick at the police station.

“You two are sisters?”

William Thompson asked with interest.

The two really did look somewhat alike, except this officer was more of a tomboy, while Sean Miller was just outgoing—she had all the charm a woman should have.

“That’s right, this is my cousin, Olivia Harris. Don’t underestimate her, she’s the police chief.”

William Thompson felt a bit frustrated.

Because only now did Sean Miller finally look at him; before this, he was completely invisible to her. Whether he’d get in trouble at the station or be dealt with by the police wasn’t even on this little firecracker’s radar.

Olivia Harris was also a bit exasperated, as if she, a dignified police chief, was always being underestimated.

“Sean Miller, hurry back to school and go to class. This matter won’t be resolved quickly.”

Sean Miller protested, “It’s not that complicated, is it? Just lock up those thugs and it’s done!”

Olivia Harris rolled her eyes hard.

If this one were the bureau chief, their police work would be a breeze.

“Jie, I don’t care, this whole thing was started by those thugs. Your police station can’t take their side—you have to handle it fairly, or all of us students will protest…”

Sean Miller was getting a bit worked up, as if the moment she turned around, the police would throw Ryan Carter in jail.

Olivia Harris was even more at a loss, standing up, walking over to Sean Miller, putting a hand on her shoulder, and smiling as she said, “Sean Miller, please trust our police station. We will enforce the law impartially. Now, go back to class right away!”

“It’s lunch break, class isn’t for a while. I’ll just stay here.”

Sean Miller said boldly.

“Report! Report… Someone’s been killed, someone’s been killed…”

Before Olivia Harris could say more, chaos erupted in the hallway, and the bespectacled strategist was shouting at the top of his lungs.

William Thompson grinned, “Well, looks like we can’t do the statement now. Officer Harris, you’d better go deal with those bastards first. Damn, they really know how to play the victim.”

“William Thompson, I’m telling you, when our chief arrives, don’t say anything reckless. He won’t like it.”

Olivia Harris turned to glare at William Thompson, speaking very seriously, her expression more solemn than ever.

William Thompson felt a chill in his heart and nodded involuntarily.

Actually, he knew that people like him, always joking around, weren’t well-liked by most adults. But William Thompson never cared about that—hell, whether you like me or not, what’s it got to do with me!

But today, under someone else’s roof, he might have to bow his head.

After all, Olivia Harris meant well.

This policewoman, who looked so “tough,” still had a sense of justice inside.

“Somebody help! Someone’s been killed…”

The bespectacled strategist was still screaming hoarsely.

Olivia Harris raised her eyebrows and strode out, shouting, “What are you yelling for? Behave yourself!”

“Ryan Carter, don’t be afraid, my cousin will help you.”

Sean Miller quickly said to Ryan Carter.

Ryan Carter smiled and nodded, though who knew what he was really thinking.

William Thompson couldn’t help but laugh, “He’d be afraid? Little Spicy… Sean Miller, stop joking. Nothing has ever scared him.”

And it seemed nothing could scare William Thompson either.

Sean Miller glared at him and said, “William Thompson, you don’t understand. Things in society are really complicated now. Everything’s about connections—without them, even the innocent can be made to look guilty.”

“He can’t be changed.”

William Thompson said with certainty.

“If anyone tries to twist the truth with me, I’ll make them blacker than coal!”

He said it with absolute confidence.

Sean Miller glanced at him, curled her lip, and said nothing more.

After all, William Thompson was from the countryside, just a high school junior—how much could he really know about society?

He thought that with enough passion, he could handle anything.

But it’s never that simple!

Still, there was no point saying more now—he definitely wouldn’t listen.

Ryan Carter said, “Sean Miller, you should go back to school first. Help us ask for leave. Once things are settled here, we’ll go back to class.”

“No rush, class isn’t until later this afternoon. I’ll stay and see how things go.”

Ryan Carter nodded slightly and said nothing more.
