Chapter 16

William Carter glanced at the two people writhing on the ground and said to everyone, “That’s enough, let’s go!” The group followed William Carter, and after walking quite a distance, they saw a bike shed several times larger than the previous one. After locking up their bikes, they headed to the sports field. By this time, quite a few people were already standing on the field. Sarah Thompson muttered quietly, “Looks like there are a lot of new students here!”

On the field, people gathered in groups of three or five, or seven or eight, dressed in all sorts of styles. Almost everyone had a cigarette in hand (except for the girls). William Carter thought to himself, maybe all the delinquents in the city have gathered here. Seeing this, he felt a surge of excitement—he liked challenges that made the blood boil. What he was thinking about was—conquest.

William Carter and his group stood at the very front, and their brothers arrived one after another. Soon, more than forty people had gathered. William Carter said to Sarah Thompson, “Xiao Shuang, go see if there are any brothers who haven’t come over yet.” Sarah Thompson nodded but didn’t move, instead shouting at the top of his lungs, “Anyone looking for Will, come over here~~” His voice was so loud it could be heard all over the field. George Miller, standing next to Sarah Thompson, felt his ears buzz, and kicked Sarah Thompson on the butt, “Damn, Will told you to go look, who told you to shout? My ears are almost deaf from you!”

Sarah Thompson chuckled and said proudly, “How’s my voice? Pretty lethal, right! Honestly, I think I’m more suited than Li Na to sing ‘Tibetan Plateau.’”

‘Thud’—a bunch of people behind fell over. Sarah Thompson’s tenor really worked; some brothers who hadn’t found William Carter all came running over.

But then a chorus of curses erupted nearby: “Who the hell was that? Yelling like a lunatic!” “Who the fuck was howling just now? Sounded like a ghost!” Sarah Thompson blushed, embarrassed and angry, and shouted, “You brats, it was your grandpa yelling! If you’ve got a problem, come over here!”

William Carter signaled to the little brothers around Sarah Thompson, and everyone knowingly stepped aside, leaving Sarah Thompson exposed alone on the field. William Carter hadn’t planned to cause trouble right after arriving, but his restless young heart made him change his mind. He also wanted to take the opportunity to establish his authority in front of the new students, so he didn’t stop Sarah Thompson.

Some hot-tempered boys on the field started to surround Sarah Thompson. A student in a blue jacket was the first to step up, “Damn, it was you yelling just now, wasn’t it?” Sarah Thompson looked him up and down, curled his lip, and said, “You’re not a match for me, get lost!”

The blue-jacketed student was nearly furious—he was as fat as a pig, yet this guy said he wasn’t good enough. He stopped talking and swung his fist at Sarah Thompson. Sarah Thompson was hot-tempered and the number one fighter under William Carter, with plenty of experience in brawls. Seeing the punch coming, he grabbed it with one hand, and with the other, slapped the blue-jacketed student hard across the face. The slap was powerful, sending the student stumbling back several steps and collapsing to the ground, unable to get up.

Sarah Thompson looked around and shouted, “Who’s next? If you’re a man, don’t act like a wimp! Come on!”

Sarah Thompson’s words enraged the crowd nearby, and seven or eight people rushed up to surround him. “Heh, you guys want to gang up on me? Fine, I’ll play with you all today!” Sarah Thompson’s face twisted into a fierce grin, startling them.

Even though there were seven or eight of them, and Sarah Thompson was alone, no matter how tough he was, he couldn’t take them all. They suppressed their unease and attacked together, turning into a chaotic brawl. Soon, everyone’s faces were bruised. William Carter nodded at George Miller, who dashed forward, grabbed a student by the collar, and punched him hard in the stomach. The student cried out, curling up in pain. With a heave, George Miller tossed him aside and grabbed the next one...

Sarah Thompson and George Miller beat the group so badly they were crying for their mothers. Anyone who tried to run was blocked by William Carter’s little brothers and mercilessly kicked to the ground. When all seven or eight students were lying on the ground, William Carter told everyone to stop. Sarah Thompson wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, grinned, and said, “That felt great! Anyone else not convinced? Come on! Haha~”

The new students nearby all lowered their heads, glancing at the seven or eight bloodied guys on the ground, feeling a chill in their hearts. Suddenly, Sarah Thompson’s expression changed as he remembered Will’s words about not causing trouble, and he thought to himself: Crap. He looked back at William Carter and saw him nodding in satisfaction, so Sarah Thompson relaxed. He straightened up and belted out in his high-pitched voice, “I know some of you still aren’t convinced, but do you know who we are? The big brother behind me is William Carter from No. 2 High School. If you want to mess with us, think twice!”

The new students around started whispering among themselves. They had all heard that a new overlord had appeared at No. 2 High School and nearby, making a name for himself—his name was William Carter. Just then, the school’s loudspeaker blared, “All new students, assemble on the field immediately. All new students, assemble on the field immediately. We will now begin class assignments...” The new students stopped talking and lined up, while the ones on the ground were helped up by classmates and friends and moved to the side.

Soon, a few teachers came out of the teaching building. Leading them was a balding, middle-aged man in his fifties, holding a megaphone. He walked to a one-meter-high platform at the front of the field and stood there. The balding man picked up the megaphone, “Hello... hello~~!” Satisfied with the sound, he cleared his throat and said, “Hello, students. Um, I am the principal of this school, ah. On behalf of all the teachers and students, I welcome you to join our big family. Um, our school has a long history... (ten thousand words omitted)”
