Chapter 19

Amidst the swirling wall dust, dozens of brick fragments shot out like hidden weapons, their sharp whistling enveloping her.

“Who’s there?” she shrieked in shock and anger, her two fluffy, fiery tails flaring out to form a barrier.

  Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bricks and stones flew wildly inside the room, crashing into furniture and pots and pans with a clatter.

Through the haze, a striking figure darted in at lightning speed, leaping up and swinging a whip-like leg through the air toward the fox spirit.

The fox spirit turned, raising both arms to block.

  “Pa~”

With a sharp crack, the fox spirit flipped in midair, floating lightly backward, her toes landing on the water dispenser’s barrel. A flash of shock and anger flickered in her once-demonic eyes.

Freed at last, Ryan Walker instantly recognized his savior.

She wore a standard summer office lady’s suit, her jet-black hair tied in a simple ponytail, and a pair of sunglasses perched on her stunning, coldly beautiful face.

If not for the sunglasses and the dangerous aura she exuded, most people would have mistaken her for a beautiful, intellectual white-collar woman.

  Lillian Nolan!

Although there had been conflict before, compared to that dangerous fox spirit, the sunglasses-wearing Lillian Nolan was undoubtedly a lifeline. And judging by her moves, she was clearly no ordinary person.

With all the bizarre things he’d seen, Ryan Walker was starting to take the strange in stride.

“Thank you, Sister Lillian Nolan, for saving my life.” Ryan Walker quickly rolled behind her, gratefully reminding, “Be careful, she’s a fox spirit, and a powerful one. Did you bring your phone? Let’s call the police.” He couldn’t help but wonder—why did she suddenly appear to save him?

“No need, I’ve already notified the SWAT team to seal off the area.” Lillian Nolan kept her eyes fixed on the fox spirit, her beautiful, icy face growing tense and wary. “I didn’t expect ‘her’ to be a twin-tailed demon fox. Ryan Walker, fall back and look for a chance to escape.”

How does she know my name?

Ryan Walker was a bit surprised, but a surge of hot-blooded courage welled up in his chest: “You saved me—how could I just run away? As a man, I have the strength to fight too.”

As he spoke, he swung his fist with a whoosh, full of vigor.

“Very well. You’ll have to face these things sooner or later.” Lillian Nolan said calmly. “It’s good for you to experience a superpowered battle early. Your only task is to stay alive. She’s dangerous—she’s killed at least a hundred or two hundred people.”

Ryan Walker felt dizzy. A hundred or two hundred lives? That’s a mass murderer! Sister Lillian Nolan, in such a dangerous situation, aren’t you going to urge me to run? Like, Ryan Walker, you’ll just get in the way—hurry up and scram, or something?

Looking at the fox spirit again, Ryan Walker no longer saw a beauty, but a man-eating tiger.

“Hehe, I was wondering who had the guts to steal my man.” The fox spirit, balancing lightly on the water barrel, her two fox tails swaying seductively, giggled coquettishly. “So it’s someone from the authorities. Little lady, I advise you to get lost and not ruin my fun. Otherwise…”

Lillian Nolan stepped forward with a cold expression, her jade fingers resting on the silver bracelet on her wrist, which was covered in mysterious runes. A chill spread from her, radiating in all directions.

As hot and cold air collided, a ring of mist formed around them, drifting and swirling, making it feel like a fairyland.

In just a second or two, the temperature in the living room dropped by at least ten degrees. Ryan Walker, bare-chested, shivered from the sudden cold, his eyes growing more astonished.

  “Crack! Crack!”

The silver bracelet underwent a strange transformation, splitting into two distinct parts.

With a flick of her right hand, she held a silver spike just big enough to grip. On her left wrist, a palm-sized diamond-shaped shield appeared.

“Demon fox, you’ve slaughtered innocents and brought disaster upon the world.” Lillian Nolan’s face was as cold as ice, the runed silver spike in her right hand and the small shield on her left wrist both shining brightly, the surrounding mist gathering into sparkling ice crystals.

In an instant, an exquisitely crafted, chilling ice sword appeared in her right hand, while a zither-shaped ice shield formed on her left wrist.

“If you surrender now, you might have a sliver of hope in the Demon Prison.” The icy aura around Lillian Nolan intensified, her jet-black hair turning white, transforming into a cascade of snowy strands as her power surged. “Otherwise, today will be the day your body and soul are destroyed.”

Such a strange and wondrous transformation left Ryan Walker dumbfounded. So cool and dazzling—so this is what she meant by a superpowered being? Compared to her ice sword and shield, his little flame was like a tricycle next to a supercar. And she could even transform—her long, snow-white hair made her look like a spirit from a world of ice and snow.

“Arrogant fool! You’re courting death!” With negotiations failed, two crimson beams shot from the fox spirit’s seductive eyes. She tapped lightly off the water barrel and leapt forward, her lithe body leaving a blur in her wake.
