Chapter 2

"You don't remember me?" The girl glanced at Brian Carter with a playful reproach, her slightly pouting lips as clear and glossy as jelly. But then her eyes flickered, as if she had thought of something, and a faint trace of pride appeared on her face as she smiled with squinting eyes. Her smile was like a ray of sunshine in winter, bringing a warm sense of vitality.

Brian Carter listened to her words and watched her expression. A long-lost memory surfaced in his mind. The contours of her cheeks seemed vaguely familiar. Suddenly, Brian Carter exclaimed in surprise, "Are you Grace Harris?"

"You finally remembered." Grace Harris curled her lips and looked at Brian Carter with a smile.

"Uncle Harris didn't come?" Brian Carter asked in confusion. He had thought it would be Uncle Harris picking him up.

"My dad is on a business trip. Let's go. My dad said you should stay at our place for the time being." A sly smile flashed across Grace Harris's lips. You finally came to my turf, let's see how I get my childhood revenge on you!

Brian Carter dragged his luggage, following behind Grace Harris, gazing at the graceful figure ahead, still immersed in a sense of unreality.

His memories of Grace Harris only went back to when they were six or seven years old. Their families were old friends, so they often visited each other. But back then, he and Grace Harris didn't get along well and often fought. Later, Brian Carter's family moved to Ningdong, and the two families saw each other less often. Uncle Harris would only visit Ningdong once or twice during the holidays. He never expected that the wild, mischievous, nail-scratching, ugly little girl from back then would grow up to be so beautiful. Who knows how many people she must have charmed at school? Just look at the passersby stopping to stare at her, and you can get a sense of it.

Brian Carter couldn't help but sigh at how quickly time had passed.

"Uncle Harris is away. Is it really okay for me to stay?" Brian Carter caught up with her and asked hesitantly.

"Besides my place, where else could you go?" Grace Harris rolled her eyes at Brian Carter. When did this brat become so polite? He never hesitated to snatch her toys when they were kids.

"Sorry to trouble you and uncle. Once I find a job, I'll move out as soon as I can." Brian Carter didn't want to keep relying on others.

"You're planning to find a job here and not continue studying? What kind of job are you looking for?" Grace Harris asked in surprise. She remembered that Brian Carter was the same age as her, so he should still be in school. She had thought, from what her father said, that Brian Carter was transferring schools.

"I can do a lot of jobs—waiter, security guard, or bodyguard, any of those." Brian Carter replied.

"Yinhai has long since adopted intelligent robots everywhere. There's no way you'd get a job as a waiter or security guard. As for bodyguard—you? Forget it." Grace Harris looked Brian Carter up and down with a laugh. At 1.75 meters tall, wearing a loose jacket, he looked a bit thin and definitely not burly. With that build, he wouldn't stand a chance in a fight.

"I've done all those jobs before. I'm confident I'm no worse than anyone else." Brian Carter could tell from Grace Harris's look what she was thinking, so he explained with a smile. His last job was as a bodyguard for a wealthy businessman, and the employer was very satisfied. But when Brian Carter discovered the employer had dealings with the underworld, he decisively quit.

Grace Harris glanced at Brian Carter in surprise, suddenly recalling that her father had mentioned a few years ago that Brian Carter had dropped out of school at fifteen to start working. He must have had a tough time these past years. Thinking of her own privileged life, and how casually she had spoken just now, her face flushed with embarrassment and she apologized, "Just now... I'm sorry."

"It's nothing." Brian Carter smiled calmly. He knew Grace Harris meant no harm.

Brian Carter had changed a lot. Grace Harris had originally planned to tease him when he arrived, but now she gradually put away that thought.

Brian Carter noticed the change in Grace Harris's attitude and raised his eyebrows slightly. He didn't need anyone's sympathy. Thinking of the meager seven hundred yuan in his wallet, which probably wouldn't even cover a week's rent in the bustling city of Yinhai, he had no choice but to stay at Grace Harris's place for now. He was deeply grateful that Uncle Harris was willing to take him in. He was sure he could find a job, and once he did, he would be able to stand on his own in this city and repay this kindness.

As they talked, they had already left the station. Grace Harris walked up to a red Lamborghini, opened the door, and said, "Get in."

"This car is yours?" Brian Carter asked in surprise, looking at the red Lamborghini in front of him. Its perfect lines and bright sheen exuded a wild, untamed beauty—truly fitting for Grace Harris.

"Yeah." Grace Harris started the car skillfully.

Brian Carter was silent for a moment, then opened the door and sat in the passenger seat.

The red Lamborghini roared off at high speed.

"Brian Carter, are you interested in becoming a professional gamer? My cousin's studio is hiring. You could give it a try," Grace Harris suddenly thought of something and asked Brian Carter as she drove.

"Professional gamer? I don't think I'm cut out for that." Brian Carter shook his head. He didn't seem to have much talent for gaming.
