About ten minutes later, Brian Carter checked his own level—it was already level five. Black Oil Spell and Small Fireball Spell had both leveled up to level two, making them even more effective. This leveling speed was simply astonishing; even with a team of top players, no one could level up this fast.
It was no longer worthwhile to keep farming giant spiders here. Brian Carter packed up his things—he needed to go back and buy some potions. Without potions, it was very hard to survive in the wild; every time his mana and health ran out, he’d have to sit on the ground and recover slowly, which was a huge waste of time.
Brian Carter sped toward Tagite Village, sprinting for seven or eight minutes before finally returning to the village. By now, there were thousands of players in Tagite Village, bustling with activity, and more players were arriving. The highest level among them was only level three, and the vast majority were still at level zero. Now that Brian Carter was already level five, he immediately stood out from the crowd.
“This guy levels up so fast. The game has only just launched, and he’s already level five.”
Some players whispered about Brian Carter behind his back.
Brian Carter ignored the curious looks from the surrounding players and ran toward the pharmacy, selling all his spider venom fangs to the NPC and earning sixteen copper coins. He then used his money to buy two sets of the lowest-grade mana spring water and one set of bread.
Low-grade Mana Spring Water: Restores 50 mana points over 10 seconds.
Low-grade Bread: Restores 50 health points over 10 seconds.
A set of twenty mana spring waters cost only seven copper coins, and a set of bread only six copper coins—very cheap.
After putting the mana spring water and bread into his backpack, he checked and saw he still had thirty copper coins left. After thinking for a moment, he went to the general store and bought some odd items, including six ground spikes, a tube of ten 20-yard ranged gravity javelins, and six basic flash dusts, spending all his money.
Ground Spikes: Special item, favored by thieves for setting traps. Although Brian Carter is a druid, he can use them too. When monsters step on them, they take some damage and have a 10% chance to become crippled. Only effective against monsters below level thirty.
20-yard Ranged Gravity Javelin: Ten javelins per tube, deals a certain amount of ranged damage—not high, but with a 3% chance to knock back. A pretty good item for the early game, only effective against monsters below level thirty.
Basic Flash Dust: Special item, throw it outside and it creates a flash effect upon landing, with a 10% chance to blind monsters. Only effective against monsters below level thirty.
Since these are basic items, their effects are mediocre, but sometimes they can have unexpected results!
While Brian Carter was buying these items in bulk, a few players walked in. The leader was a warrior named Warren, level three, and the others were around level two.
“Hey, bro, interested in teaming up? We have fifteen people, all pretty skilled. Let’s rush to level fifteen together and head straight to the Ashen Marsh.” Warren asked tentatively. He had noticed Brian Carter as soon as he entered the village—so soon after the game launched, Brian Carter was already level five, definitely a top player.
Brian Carter glanced at Warren and replied calmly, “Sorry, I’m not interested.” Without paying any more attention to Warren, he walked out of the shop.
“This guy is way too arrogant,” grumbled another warrior named Axel nearby. “We took the initiative to talk to him and he just ignored us. Who does he think he is!” Axel was annoyed because their team was already fairly well-known among professional players, and plenty of people wanted to join them but were turned away. This time, they made an exception to invite Brian Carter, and he didn’t even bother to respond.
Warren didn’t comment on Axel’s words. Watching Brian Carter’s departing figure, he smiled faintly and said, “Since he’s active in the Kelfid area, we’ll have more chances to meet in the future.”
Brian Carter wasn’t a professional player; he had only just started getting into the profession and didn’t know anyone in the pro scene. He had no idea who Warren was, and Warren’s invitation didn’t stir any feelings in him at all. He needed to focus on his own leveling plan—once the other players finished exploring the map, he’d lose out on too much!
Leaving Tagite Village, Brian Carter immediately sprinted toward the eastern part of the Bloodshadow Plains.
Level three giant spider area, level six venomous spider area, level seven goblin area, level nine green-skinned goblin area—Brian Carter carefully made his way through one monster respawn zone after another, heading deeper inside.
Right now, almost all players only dared to stay near the village. Hardly anyone besides Brian Carter would venture this deep into the Bloodshadow Plains.
Moving through these areas, Brian Carter was nervous—if any monster here spotted him, he’d be in trouble. Some monsters, like the level nine green-skinned goblin, could even kill him instantly!
Brian Carter glanced at his coordinates, frowning slightly. It should be around here—why hadn’t he arrived yet? Had the coordinates his father recorded changed?
Maybe the main system had modified this part of the map!
