Brian Carter quickly leapt backward. With a thunderous boom, the goblin warrior’s spiked club smashed into the ground just a yard in front of Brian Carter, sending shards of stone flying everywhere. The sound was like thunder, startling Brian Carter—what terrifying power.
A creature of elite rank truly was formidable.
The goblin warrior lumbered toward Brian Carter with heavy steps, swinging its spiked club once again.
Everything was going according to plan. Brian Carter calculated the distance and the cooldown of his Oil Slick spell, a slight smile appearing at the corner of his mouth as he ran toward the spot where he’d set a ground spike.
The flames on the goblin warrior’s body gradually died down. Its whole body was charred black, looking battered and covered in ash. Without the effect of the oil, its movement speed increased again, and it roared furiously as it chased after Brian Carter. Seeing Brian Carter standing ahead, it raised its spiked club, stepped forward with its right foot, and was just about to bring the club down when—thud!—it stepped right onto a ground spike. The intense pain made it let out a shrill, miserable howl. The ground spike dealt six points of damage.
Got him! Brian Carter took a few steps back, dodging the spiked club’s attack.
Strike while it’s down—go for the kill!
Oil Slick!
Fireball!
The goblin warrior was once again engulfed in flames, wailing in agony.
The ground spike’s effect quickly wore off, and the goblin warrior, now ablaze, became even more enraged. It raised its spiked club and charged forward, moving even faster than before.
It would be unwise to go head-to-head with the goblin warrior; a single blow from its club would finish him instantly. Brian Carter quickly retreated, tossing a handful of flash powder as he went. With a bang, the flash powder exploded, a burst of white light flaring.
The goblin warrior paused for a moment, but the blinding effect didn’t trigger, and it charged forward again.
Flash powder only has a 10% chance to cause blindness. With such a low probability, Brian Carter didn’t expect it to work; just slowing the goblin warrior down a bit was already quite good.
Brian Carter quickly fell back, stalling for time. He glanced at his Oil Slick and Fireball spells—both skills had finished cooling down. He immediately ran toward the location of another ground spike. The goblin warrior chased after Brian Carter, and once again—thud!—it stepped right onto another spike.
Another hit! Taking advantage of the goblin warrior being caught by the spike, Brian Carter unleashed another round of Oil Slick and Fireball.
The goblin warrior jumped about in a rage, but the entire rhythm of the battle was completely under Brian Carter’s control. It didn’t even have a chance to counterattack.
The goblin warrior desperately tried to kill Brian Carter. If it had intelligence, it would probably be very confused: this weak human would be finished with just one hit from its club, yet after all this time, it hadn’t even managed to touch Brian Carter, looking utterly pathetic.
Under Brian Carter’s guidance, the goblin warrior stepped on four ground spikes in a row and was hit by flash powder three times, leaving it with just over a hundred health points.
After repeatedly stepping on spikes and still not even grazing Brian Carter, the goblin warrior seemed to develop a hint of fear toward Brian Carter. Just as Brian Carter was retreating, preparing to lure it onto a fifth spike, the goblin warrior suddenly turned and fled.
The goblin warrior’s move was exactly as Brian Carter had anticipated—if a monster can’t land a hit, it will become afraid and try to escape!
Brian Carter calmly took a javelin from his backpack, raised it in his right hand, jogged a few steps, and hurled it fiercely at the goblin warrior’s back.
The javelin traced a straight line through the air—thud!—striking the goblin warrior squarely in the back. Blood spattered, and a big “30” damage value floated up above its head.
Javelins have a very low hit rate; attacking head-on makes them easy to dodge. That’s why Brian Carter didn’t use javelins when first luring the monster—at long range, it’s hard to hit the target!
At this point, the goblin warrior was only three or four yards away from Brian Carter, and had its back turned. If Brian Carter still couldn’t hit, he might as well bash his own head in.
The javelin’s damage was quite impressive.
The goblin warrior grunted in pain but kept running forward.
Still running? Brian Carter jogged a few steps and hurled another javelin hard at the goblin warrior’s back—thud!—another hit. This time, the javelin only dealt twenty-one points of damage.
After taking two hits, the goblin warrior’s aggro was drawn. It howled and turned to charge at Brian Carter.
The goblin warrior wasn’t very smart and couldn’t choose the best way to fight, so this back-and-forth gave Brian Carter plenty of chances to attack.
With a deep shout, Brian Carter threw a third javelin.
The javelin shot out again, striking the goblin warrior square in the chest—thud!—blood sprayed everywhere, and the goblin warrior staggered back several steps.
A knockback effect!
Knockback only lasts a few seconds—no time to waste! Brian Carter threw another javelin.
With only a sliver of health left, the goblin warrior howled and charged forward.
The goblin warrior’s spiked club came crashing down, and Brian Carter quickly retreated three or four steps. Just as it was about to attack—thud!—its face turned a deep purple as it tragically stepped on yet another ground spike!
This human was just too cunning and devious. Who knows if the goblin warrior felt the urge to go completely berserk!
