These four were still fairly normal, but some of the things mixed in among them left Brian Carter utterly stunned.
“Spirit-Returning Gloves, Golden Left Hand, X-ray Glasses, Storage Ring…” Some of the icons had names labeled above them.
“What the heck, aren’t these all things from novels? Is this some new game?” Brian Carter muttered, noticing a “Start” button on the page, and moved the mouse to click it.
The pointer on the roulette wheel began spinning rapidly, a blur of light and shadow, showing no sign of stopping anytime soon. Brian Carter took the opportunity to examine the wheel closely. The areas occupied by each item were different in size. Things like Qidian Coins and Advanced VIPs took up a large portion, which probably meant they were easy to win. The other items, however, occupied much smaller areas—especially the Golden Left Hand and X-ray Glasses, which were just tiny slivers. The mysterious ring took up an even tinier slice.
Anyone who’s played roulette knows: the smaller the area, the lower the chance of landing on it, and the higher its value. The larger areas are easier to hit, so those are the cheaper prizes. For example, in this wheel, fifty thousand Qidian Coins is worth about five hundred yuan, and yet it takes up such a large area. Does that mean those gloves, rings, and such are even more valuable?
At this point, the spinning pointer began to slow down, filling Brian Carter with anticipation. His eyes were glued to the pointer as it crept along.
Advanced VIP… Golden Left Hand… Fifty thousand points… X-ray Glasses… Fifty thousand Qidian Coins…
When the pointer reached the Qidian Coins, it slowed down even more, looking like it was about to stop. The area for fifty thousand Qidian Coins was big enough that, judging by the pointer’s speed, it probably wouldn’t move past it.
Honestly, fifty thousand Qidian Coins was already a great prize for Brian Carter—enough to read for almost a whole year. But at that moment, he couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed. He had no idea what those strange items were, and not winning them left him with a sense of regret.
But although the pointer seemed to have stopped, it hadn’t come to a complete halt. It continued to inch forward, ever so slowly… bit by bit… almost imperceptibly, but Brian Carter could feel it was still moving. This gave Brian Carter a sudden surge of hope, because right after the Qidian Coins was the smallest area of all… the Storage Ring.
Watching the pointer creep forward, Brian Carter felt his heart rise into his throat. His eyes were locked on the pointer, and he even held his breath.
Finally… after passing the Qidian Coins, the pointer seemed to run out of momentum and stopped right on the icon for the mysterious ring. Immediately, a line of text appeared on the screen: “Congratulations, you have won a Storage Ring. Would you like to claim it?”
“Yes!” Brian Carter’s heart suddenly pounded wildly. His hand holding the mouse even trembled a little, and he nervously clicked, eagerly awaiting the next prompt.
But the webpage simply jumped to the Qidian homepage, with no further message.
“Damn! What a scam!” All of Brian Carter’s hopes instantly vanished, but he quickly laughed at himself. “Damn, I’m such an idiot. There are so many scams online, how could I fall for this?”
Once he figured it out, his eagerness to read the new chapter quickly pushed the roulette incident out of his mind.
He finally finished reading the latest update, then deliberately left a comment in the book review section. Seeing the Junior VIP badge on his profile gave him a small sense of pride. In the past, when he commented on books as an ordinary user, he always felt a bit embarrassed—reading for free, not supporting the author, and still making critical remarks. Other VIP readers would always look down on him.
“Damn, now I’ve paid, so I can say whatever I want, haha…” Now, leaving comments in the review section felt completely justified.
“Huh…” Brian Carter suddenly noticed something new on his computer desk—a yellowish, round ring.
Other than buying a game card, Brian Carter had never gotten anything at the internet café, and he’d checked the desk before sitting down—there definitely hadn’t been anything there. Plus, this thing looked oddly familiar, like he’d seen it somewhere before.
A flash of realization struck him. Brian Carter suddenly remembered the roulette wheel from earlier, and quickly picked up the ring for a closer look. The ring was yellow, somewhat like gold, but also a bit like brass. Its surface was engraved with irregular patterns that extended to the inside of the ring. There were no other decorations. It was exactly the same as the Storage Ring on the roulette wheel.
