Chapter 11

Sitting in the classroom, Brian Carter looked at David Foster in front of him, who was still grimacing in pain, and felt incredibly pleased. He had always been bullied by this guy before. Whenever there was something good in the class, David Foster would never think of him, but if there was any trouble, he would definitely be the first one blamed. Usually, he could only swallow his anger, but this time he finally got back at this guy he had always found annoying. What’s more, he let him experience the function of the spatial ring for the first time. Even though it was just a small demonstration, it still gave him a great sense of accomplishment.

“Dongzi, you seem to be in a good mood today. Did something good happen?” Brian Carter’s deskmate Ethan Parker stuffed his backpack into the desk and looked at Brian Carter curiously. Usually, as soon as Brian Carter arrived, he would bury himself in those thick online novels, but today he wasn’t reading at all.

Brian Carter laughed and said, “Nothing much, just that the weather’s good today, so I’m in a good mood.”

Ethan Parker turned to glance out the window, a bit puzzled. “The weather’s good today? It’s been cloudy all day.”

“I just like cloudy days, is that a problem?”

“That’s a pretty unique preference.” Ethan Parker shook his head, took out a set of exercise books, and started working on them.

Since this was a key high school, the students’ study atmosphere was quite intense. There weren’t many students like Brian Carter who didn’t like to study, and they were all assigned to the last row of seats. Ethan Parker’s grades were actually pretty decent—about average in the class—but because he was timid and always accepted things as they came, he ended up in the last row as well.

However, Brian Carter and Ethan Parker got along quite well, and Ethan Parker was one of the few friends Brian Carter had in the class.

Seeing Ethan Parker reading, Brian Carter also pretended to put a book on his desk, but he was secretly trying out the ring’s functions. Last night at home, it was all just theory, but now in the classroom, he could actually practice.

First, he put all the books from his desk into the spatial ring. From now on, he could say goodbye to carrying a backpack.

Slipping out of the classroom through the back door, Brian Carter went to the side of the school building, where there was a small garden. Since everyone was in self-study, there was no one else around.

First, Brian Carter tried to solve the problem he hadn’t figured out last night. He took a book out of the ring and placed it on the ground, then adjusted the distance to put it back in. After several attempts, Brian Carter got the idea: the maximum distance he could use the storage ring to retrieve something was ten meters, which was the length of the space. Also, the entire object had to be within ten meters; otherwise, the ring wouldn’t work.

As for whether he needed to see the object, Brian Carter put the book behind a tree and was still able to retrieve it easily. So, visibility wasn’t the issue—the main thing was whether it was within ten meters.

Brian Carter also discovered another problem: things like leaves and grass couldn’t be stored in the ring unless he picked the leaves or pulled up the grass, in which case they could be stored. Small stones on the surface could be stored, but stones buried in the ground could not.

After these experiments, Brian Carter had basically figured out how the ring worked.

At that moment, the bell for the end of morning self-study rang, and Brian Carter happily returned to the classroom. By then, a group of students had gathered around Grace Cooper’s seat, and David Foster was showing off a new magic trick to get Grace Cooper’s attention.

“Keshu, I learned a magic trick these past two days. Let me show you.” As David Foster spoke, he took out a handkerchief and shook it in front of Grace Cooper.

Grace Cooper smiled gently and quietly watched David Foster. A few curious students gathered around, but most of the class continued working on their exercises with great focus. It was already senior year, and everyone was racing against time to study, as if wasting even a minute would affect their chances of getting into college.

Brian Carter also squeezed in, standing at the back and watching David Foster’s performance through the gaps between people.

At this point, David Foster had already placed the handkerchief on Grace Cooper’s desk, smiled, and said, “Now, let’s see what’s inside the handkerchief. You can check it as much as you like.”

Grace Cooper picked up the handkerchief, gave it a shake, and smiled lightly. “There’s nothing inside.”

David Foster took the handkerchief back, spread it flat on the desk again, clapped his hands, and said proudly, “Now watch closely, this is the moment to witness a miracle.”

Brian Carter couldn’t help but secretly sneer. This guy thinks he’s Liu Qian or something, learning a little magic trick from who knows where and putting on a show.

After a bit of showmanship, David Foster pointed at the handkerchief and slowly said, “Rise... rise...”

The middle of the handkerchief slowly started to bulge upward, getting higher and higher, almost lifting the entire handkerchief. The students watching around couldn’t help but gasp softly, and someone was already leaning over to see what was under the handkerchief.
