Chapter 20

From last night when he got this storage ring until now, after an entire morning, Brian Carter had already figured out several ways to use the storage ring. Compared to how, in novels, the storage ring is only used as a warehouse, Brian Carter suddenly felt that he was actually quite clever, and he was a little proud of himself. But then he thought of the various items on that roulette wheel—this storage ring took up the least space, so it must be the most precious. And now he had only used a tiny bit of its function, so there must be many other uses for the ring that he just hadn’t mastered yet.

“If only there were a manual for this,” Brian Carter thought to himself, a rather ridiculous idea popping into his mind. But he also found it a bit funny—this ring was so magical, if it even came with a manual, wouldn’t it just be a mass-produced item? Where would its mystique be then?

But speaking of its magic, the way this thing appeared was actually quite bizarre. If he could get a treasure just by following his conscience and reading a legitimate copy, shouldn’t others be able to get one too?

Thinking of this, Brian Carter immediately couldn’t wait and ran out of the school gate, heading straight to the internet café he’d visited yesterday.

But as soon as he entered, he felt the place was unusually deserted. The first-floor hall, which could hold forty computers, was usually almost full at this hour, but now there were barely ten people in total.

The cashier at the internet café was a girl in her twenties, sitting inside listlessly, her eyes darting around from time to time, looking quite uneasy. The network administrator from yesterday was nowhere to be seen.

Thinking it over, he couldn’t help but secretly laugh. Yesterday’s supernatural incident must have spread, so now everyone was too scared to come here to surf the internet.

He casually picked a spot, logged into his legitimate reading account, but everything was normal—he read as usual, nothing strange happened. He even searched on Baidu about storage rings, but all he found were some wild speculations, nothing that could compare to his real item.

When he was leaving, Brian Carter remembered the monitor he’d taken from here yesterday. Taking advantage of no one noticing, he put it back in the same spot as before, then paid and left.

But as soon as he walked out, a few screams immediately came from inside the internet café, and then a group of people rushed out in a panic.

Those who hadn’t believed in the internet café being haunted now saw a monitor suddenly appear where there hadn’t been one before. Whether they believed it or not, they had to now. Brian Carter had wanted to be a decent person and not take other people’s things, but the consequences… well, that was truly tragic.

Chapter 13: A Young Girl’s Bedroom

Today was Friday, and there was no evening self-study. As soon as class ended at 4:30, the students could go straight home.

Brian Carter watched as Grace Cooper was surrounded by several girls and boys, all walking out of the school together. In school, Grace Cooper was always accompanied by admirers; a student like Brian Carter would have no chance to interact with Grace Cooper unless it was by coincidence, like this morning.

“One day, I’ll definitely make you my girlfriend, Brian Carter’s girlfriend,” Brian Carter vowed to himself, then waved his fist at the group around Grace Cooper.

“Dongzi ge!” came a girl’s voice from behind.

Brian Carter didn’t even need to turn around to know it was Emma Clark calling him. Still looking at Grace Cooper in the crowd ahead, he said, “What is it? Why does a girl always have to shout so loudly? Can’t you be a bit more ladylike?”

Emma Clark had come over in high spirits, but Brian Carter’s words were like a bucket of cold water. She followed Brian Carter’s gaze to the front, then huffed, “Hmph! Big lovesick fool, with so many people chasing her, do you even have a chance?”

“Why wouldn’t I have a chance? It’s just that I haven’t made a move yet. If I did, she’d already be mine.”

Suddenly, Emma Clark reached out and pinched Brian Carter’s face. Brian Carter quickly dodged, glaring and shouting, “What are you doing? If you keep touching me, I’ll yell harassment.”

“Harass you, you stinky egg! I just wanted to see how your skin got so thick today, pinching to see if you’d react.”

“Crazy girl, you didn’t have to use so much force.” Brian Carter rubbed his left cheek, which was still aching. Emma Clark had really gone hard today. Noticing the envious looks from several boys passing by, Brian Carter grinned mischievously and said, “Xiaoxue, you’re done for. Touching me like that is really bad for your image.”

“Hmph! I should just strangle you!” Emma Clark glanced around, her face flushing red, but then she lifted her chin and shoved her backpack into Brian Carter’s arms. “I’m going to get my bike.”

“I’ll get mine too!” Brian Carter quickly followed.

“You don’t need to get yours. Otherwise, how could you give me a ride?” Emma Clark said playfully, then ran into the bike shed and soon wheeled out her sky-blue bicycle.

Brian Carter rolled his eyes at Emma Clark. “You really are a handful. Fine, I’ll give you a ride, but you can’t boss me around about studying when we get back.”

“No way!” Emma Clark refused firmly. “Auntie already said, you’re under my care these days. If you dare not listen to me, I’ll call Auntie.”
