Chapter 8

Brian Carter was riding his bike with Emma Clark on the back, humming a little tune. Emma Clark poked her head out from under Brian Carter’s arm and said, “Dongzi-ge, why are you in such a good mood today?”

“Ha... Your Dongzi-ge is about to strike it rich and get the girls, how could I not be in a good mood?”

“Strike it rich? How are you getting rich? Did Auntie give you more pocket money again?”

“Can’t you have a little ambition? Getting a bit of pocket money counts as getting rich?”

“Then how are you getting rich? Did you win the lottery?”

“Nope!”

“Then did you find some treasure?”

“Ha... You guessed it! Your Dongzi-ge got his hands on a treasure. From now on, if I want to make money, I’ll make money; if I want to get girls, I’ll get girls.”

Emma Clark curled her lips and said, “Tch! You’ve just read too many web novels, always daydreaming. You think getting rich is that easy? You think everyone will let you push them around like me? If you want to chase girls, I hope you only meet ugly ones.”

Brian Carter glanced at his ring, feeling absolutely elated. He didn’t care about Emma Clark’s teasing. Of course, he couldn’t tell anyone about the mysterious ring—not even his parents or Emma Clark, the girl he grew up with. But if he didn’t say anything at all, it felt a bit stifling. He chuckled and said, “Just wait and see. When Dongzi-ge gets rich, whatever you want, I’ll buy it for you. I’ll bring home a bunch of winter sisters-in-law for you to see if they’re ugly or not.”

“Hmph, you wouldn’t dare! Just wait till I tell Auntie.” Pouting, Emma Clark tugged at Brian Carter’s shirt and said softly, “Dongzi-ge, you should read fewer of those novels. You’re so smart—if you put even a little of that energy into studying, you’d do really, really well.”

“Alright, can you not nag me like my mom? If you keep going on about this, you can walk to school by yourself.”

“Hmph, no good deed goes unpunished.” Emma Clark huffed and stopped talking. If Brian Carter really got annoyed, he’d actually leave her behind. She just couldn’t understand why Brian Carter didn’t have even a bit of tenderness for girls.

Chapter 5 Lily Cooper

Teenagers’ tempers come and go quickly, and since the two of them had always bickered like this since they were little, it only took a couple of minutes before they were chatting and laughing again.

Emma Clark’s schoolbag was in the front basket, and who knows how many books were inside—it made the handlebars heavy and hard to steer. Suddenly feeling playful, Brian Carter willed the schoolbag into his storage space, and the handlebars immediately felt much lighter. Of course, passersby wouldn’t notice if a schoolbag was missing from his basket, and Emma Clark, sitting behind, couldn’t see that her bag was gone.

Emma Clark was quite popular at school. As the two of them rode together, they passed quite a few boys from their school, all of whom looked at Brian Carter with envy and jealousy.

At times like this, Brian Carter would tease Emma Clark with a grin: “Hey, Xiaoxue, is that guy your admirer? Look at the way he’s staring at us—he probably wishes he could kick me off the bike and take you for himself.”

“I don’t even know him. Besides, what’s with your taste? He looks like a big frog! At least find a handsome guy, okay?”

“How about this one... he’s handsome enough, right?” Brian Carter spotted another good-looking boy, who was following behind them, eyes fixed on Emma Clark.

Emma Clark said disdainfully, “What’s the use of being handsome? You can’t eat looks. I hate those guys who think they’re so good-looking and keep flirting with girls.”

“Heh, Xiaoxue, your standards are pretty high. Tell Dongzi-ge what kind of guy you like, and I’ll introduce you to one.”

Emma Clark pinched Brian Carter’s waist. “Tch! Stop talking about me. I’m only a sophomore, okay? You’re a senior—how come I’ve never seen you chase anyone?”

“That was before. Starting today, I’m going to sweep the field—haha...”

“Sweep your big head!” Emma Clark pouted so much she could hang a soy sauce bottle from her lips, but Brian Carter, riding in front, couldn’t see it.

Suddenly, the bike sped up, and Emma Clark almost got thrown off. She quickly wrapped her arms around Brian Carter’s waist and, still shaken, scolded, “Stupid Dongzi, what are you doing?”

“There’s a pretty girl up ahead.” Brian Carter pedaled even faster, overtaking bike after bike, and in the blink of an eye, they reached the school gate. He braked and said, “Here, the bike’s yours. I’m off.”

“Ah! Where’s my schoolbag?” Emma Clark took the bike and immediately noticed the basket was empty. She panicked and cried out.

Brian Carter broke out in a cold sweat, quickly pointed to the roadside, and at the same time took the schoolbag out of his storage space and placed it there. “It fell on the ground.”

“Stupid Dongzi-ge, you threw my schoolbag on the ground!” Emma Clark glared angrily at Brian Carter.

Brian Carter just grinned, waved at Emma Clark, and then quickly caught up to a girl not far ahead, walking side by side with her.
