Chapter 4

Brian Morgan lay in despair in the woods, gazing at the bright moon above the treetops. From time to time, he let out a shout or two, venting his frustration while also hoping to attract the attention of any passersby.

After about ten minutes, the sound of rustling footsteps came from afar. Brian Morgan wanted to turn around to look, but his current physical condition simply didn’t allow him to make such a movement.

“Help!” Brian Morgan shouted with all his might, but no one answered him. His weak voice echoed in the woods for a long time. A sense of foreboding enveloped his heart. In this desolate wilderness, he prayed he wouldn’t encounter any wild animals. Although there weren’t any tigers or leopards here, coyotes and wild dogs often roamed about, and they could just as easily take his life.

Fear made Brian Morgan’s heartbeat quicken, and his left hand gripped a nearby branch.

The night breeze carried a faint fragrance. Brian Morgan keenly sensed that this scent came from a young woman’s body. His taut nerves slowly relaxed.

A girl in red appeared before him. The first thing Brian Morgan saw was a pair of slender, crystal-clear legs. Her red high-heeled sandals and perfect ankles created a dazzling beauty.

She bent down in front of Brian Morgan, her long black hair reflecting a deep blue sheen in the moonlight. Brian Morgan was amazed by her mysterious beauty—innocence and allure, elegance and charm were perfectly united in her.

Her bright eyes rippled first, then a captivating smile appeared at the corners of her lips. Brian Morgan’s pain seemed to vanish with her smile.

“I’m sorry. If it weren’t for me... you wouldn’t be hurt like this!” Her voice was gentle and sweet, as if someone was lightly tickling Brian Morgan’s heart with a feather.

For the first time in his life, Brian Morgan became so polite: “It’s mainly... my car was going too fast...” His voice trembled uncontrollably, and the pain made Brian Morgan frown again.

The girl in red took out a blue pill. “I just went to get some medicine. Take this, and the pain should ease a bit!” Her voice was full of allure. Brian Morgan stared blankly into her eyes, obediently opened his mouth, and swallowed the pill, which looked a lot like Viagra.

“I...” Brian Morgan wanted to say something more, but suddenly his vision blurred. He seemed to hear her laughter by his ear, then fell into a deep sleep, and his memory stopped there...

When Brian Morgan woke up again, it was already noon the next day. Sunlight filtered through the trees and shone on his body. He instinctively reached out his right hand to block the dazzling light, only to be surprised to find that his injured right arm could move freely.

Brian Morgan couldn’t believe it and swung his arm. There was no pain in either arm. He propped himself up with his hands and carefully sat up, clearly realizing that every part of his body had returned to normal.

But he distinctly remembered that last night, he had multiple fractures in his limbs. Could it be that the mysterious girl’s pill had worked? Brian Morgan slowly stood up and tentatively took two steps forward. When he was sure he had fully recovered, he jumped up excitedly on the spot. His body soared a full three meters into the air, and his head crashed heavily into a branch above. With this level of jumping, he could easily win an Olympic high jump gold medal. Brian Morgan knew better than anyone that he had never had such leaping ability.

He held his head and looked up at the treetops. Strange! What kind of power did that blue pill have? Brian Morgan sat down on the spot and, following the method of guiding his internal energy, circulated his qi throughout his body. When the flow reached the back of his head, Brian Morgan suddenly felt a stabbing pain. Stars danced before his eyes, and cold sweat instantly soaked his clothes.

There must be something wrong with his body, but with his current cultivation, he simply couldn’t detect what the problem was.

Brian Morgan walked down the mountain road, going about two kilometers before he managed to flag down a passing truck. By the time he got home, it was already three in the afternoon.

His father, David Morgan, and mother, Julia Brooks, were sitting side by side on the living room sofa. They had been waiting for their son’s return. For Brian Morgan, this was a rare occurrence. Except for Chinese New Year, it was hard to see his parents at home at this time of day.

There was also a bearded middle-aged man sitting in the living room. Both his attire and appearance seemed completely out of place. Although his blue suit was of decent quality, it was far too old, and there were two very obvious patches at the elbows.

Brian Morgan’s gaze was immediately drawn to the expulsion notice in front of his parents. Perhaps this was the real reason they had stayed home.

“You useless thing!” For the first time, David Morgan lost his temper with his son. He picked up the expulsion notice and threw it heavily to the floor. “At such a young age, you’ve already learned to flirt with girls. You’ve completely disgraced the Morgan family!”

Brian Morgan suddenly felt a pang of anxiety and sat weakly on the sofa opposite his father.

“Who said you could sit down?” David Morgan scolded sternly.
