Chapter 20

The girl clearly hadn’t expected Brian Morgan to make such a lewd move. She screamed, hurriedly shook off Brian Morgan’s arm, and slapped him hard across the face: “Pervert!” Brian Morgan struggled, still trying to hug her, but Matthew Cooper cursed viciously, “You little brat, repaying kindness with ingratitude, and you dare bully my daughter!” Then he swung his hand and struck Brian Morgan hard on the back of the neck, causing Brian Morgan to immediately lose consciousness.

When Brian Morgan woke up again, he found himself lying in a narrow room. The entire room was sealed quite well; aside from the video intercom on the wall, there was no way to contact the outside world.

Brian Morgan stood up in terror. What kind of place was this? Why had that man called Matthew Cooper sent him here? Brian Morgan tried hard to piece together his scattered memories, hoping to figure out what had happened.

Suddenly, the LCD screen lit up, and a man in uniform appeared on the screen: “Brian Morgan!”

“How do you know my name?” Brian Morgan asked in surprise.

The man laughed, raising a red booklet and waving it at Brian Morgan. Only then did Brian Morgan remember it was his admission notice, with his name and age on it.

“You are being detained for two days for committing sexual harassment.” Judging by the man’s tone, he must be a police officer.

“Sexual harassment?” Brian Morgan’s eyes widened. He had absolutely no memory of committing such a crime. Could it be because he bathed in the hot spring with the Ashley Reed sisters? He immediately dismissed that possibility—after all, they had been the ones to invite him, so it couldn’t be considered harassment. If anything, it was them harassing him.

The police officer continued, “The victim has testified that you were in an unconscious state when you acted. And since you are not yet eighteen this year, you will receive a lighter punishment. However, you must be supervised by the relevant authorities for the next six months.”

Only then did Brian Morgan relax. It was just two days—over in the blink of an eye.

“Do you have any relatives in Yundu?”

Brian Morgan thought for a moment. “My uncle is Master Jason Reed of Shaolin Temple.”

“That’s good. I’ll contact him as soon as possible to come to the police station and arrange your bail.” He paused, then added, “I will also inform Yundu University about your misconduct record.”

Brian Morgan sneered. He had never intended to attend that so-called Yundu University anyway, so no matter how bad the impact, he didn’t care.

Brian Morgan soon discovered the benefits of being detained: not only did he not have to do any work, but the food was quite good—every meal included fish and meat, which was far better than the bland vegetarian fare at Shaolin Temple.

On the afternoon of the third day, the tightly shut metal door finally opened. The police officer who had been talking to Brian Morgan on the TV for the past two days walked in: “Brian Morgan! Someone’s here to bail you out!”

Brian Morgan obediently followed him outside. At the entrance to the detention center, two monks—one large, one small—were already waiting. The big one was the chubby monk Henry Reed, and the small one was, of course, Samuel Reed.

Both of them looked furious, making Brian Morgan feel a bit guilty. It seemed his escape had caused them quite a bit of trouble.

Samuel Reed shoved the PSP game console in his hand back to Brian Morgan with force: “Take it back!”

Brian Morgan smiled. “I already told you, it’s a gift.”

Facing west, Samuel Reed pressed his palms together. “Buddha! This disciple is ashamed—I failed to resist the temptation of material desires.” He was filled with regret.

Henry Reed was holding Brian Morgan’s travel bag. He said angrily to Brian Morgan, “Uncle Master Jason Reed couldn’t come in person, so the two of us are responsible for taking you to school.”

“You’ve got to be kidding!” Brian Morgan said, pulling a long face.

“A monk does not lie,” Henry Reed said seriously.

Judging by their attitude, they were absolutely determined not to rest until Brian Morgan was delivered to the school.

“Where’s the car?” At this point, Brian Morgan could only accept reality.

Henry Reed and Samuel Reed exchanged a glance and shook their heads in unison.

“No way! You’re planning to walk?”

They both nodded again. Henry Reed handed Brian Morgan his travel bag. “Yundu University is still fifty kilometers from here. We’d better get going.”

“Can’t we take a taxi?” Brian Morgan still held onto a sliver of hope.

“We have no money!” they answered in unison.

“Are you kidding me? You’re monks—you can go beg for alms!”

Samuel Reed chanted a Buddhist phrase: “Amitabha. The abbot instructed us to let Mr. Morgan gain some experience and understand the hardships of the mortal world.”

Now Brian Morgan was completely hopeless. So it had all been arranged by the abbot in advance. Judging by how alert the two of them looked, his chances of escaping were basically zero.

The two monks escorted Brian Morgan westward along the bank of the ‘Tongtian River’. According to their plan, they had to reach ‘Yundu University’ today. Thinking of the fifty-kilometer journey ahead, Brian Morgan couldn’t help but feel a headache. There were many passersby, and seeing the three of them in such a strange combination, people couldn’t help but stare.
