The young woman gave Brian Morgan a charming smile. “Hold on tight!” She quickly started the maglev car’s engine, and the vehicle shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.
The slender, intelligent figure instantly disappeared from Brian Morgan’s sight.
“My name is Grace Reed!” the young woman gently introduced herself to Brian Morgan.
“My name is Brian Morgan!” Brian Morgan smiled, only then noticing that her eyes faintly glowed with a blue light—perhaps she was wearing colored contact lenses.
“Could you take me to Kaifeng?”
Grace Reed looked at Brian Morgan in surprise; she had no idea where the Kaifeng Brian Morgan mentioned was.
“May I ask, where is this place?” From the look on her face, Brian Morgan realized something and began trying to figure out where he was.
Grace Reed’s slender fingers lightly pressed a button on the control panel, switching the maglev car to autopilot. She shook her long black hair, then picked up a blue hair clip and tied her hair into a ponytail at the back of her head. “This is ‘Lanwu Town’ on the outskirts of ‘Yundu’. You really didn’t know?”
Brian Morgan tried hard to calm himself. Shaolin Temple was clearly in Kaifeng, so how had he suddenly ended up in ‘Yundu’? What’s more, he’d never even heard of this ‘Yundu’. Could it be that his uncle really had brought him to the other world he’d spoken of?
Grace Reed seemed to sense Brian Morgan’s unease. “Are you feeling unwell?” Brian Morgan shook his head.
“Is there a bank nearby?” He still held onto a sliver of hope.
Grace Reed nodded and parked the maglev car beside a round building up ahead. Brian Morgan hurriedly grabbed his credit card and ran toward the bank. At the ATM, he inserted his card, but the electronic voice immediately announced, “This card cannot be used!” The card was ejected, and cold sweat streamed down his forehead. “It’s over! Uncle really wasn’t lying to me. This place is completely different from my original world. No wonder my phone never had a signal, no wonder the ‘Shaolin Temple’ moved from Kaifeng to Yundu, no wonder all the cars here have no wheels…”
He trudged back to the car and sat down beside Grace Reed.
Grace Reed asked with concern, “Are you really okay?”
Brian Morgan forced a smile, and was just about to speak when the LCD screen on the console flickered, displaying the avatar of the red-haired woman who had just distracted the AI: “Hi! Grace Reed!”
Grace Reed smiled and replied, “Ashley Reed sis! Where are you? Do you want me to come pick you up?”
“No need. Let’s meet at ‘Lover’s Wharf’ in an hour and have morning tea together!”
Brian Morgan watched the video call with curiosity. Both the picture and sound quality were top-notch. It turned out his own car had a similar device, but the quality was much worse. His greatest strength was his ability to adjust his mood. In fact, even coming to another world wasn’t so bad—everything here was full of mystery for him. His uncle had promised to take him back in five years; he could use this time to cure his illness and experience the customs of a foreign land. This was practically a stroke of great fortune.
Thinking of this, Brian Morgan’s mood immediately improved. But there was still a major problem: the credit card his mother had given him was useless here. No matter how much money his parents sent, he wouldn’t be able to receive it. Then again, nothing is truly impossible. If things got really tough, didn’t he still have his monk uncle from Shaolin Temple? He was the only heir of the Meng family—surely his uncle would take care of his food and shelter.
Grace Reed noticed Brian Morgan’s odd smiles from time to time and couldn’t help but ask, “Did something happy happen?”
“Nothing, I’m just naturally cheerful!”
“How about we go have morning tea together?” Grace Reed took the initiative to invite him.
“I didn’t bring any money today!” Brian Morgan admitted frankly.
Grace Reed giggled. “Don’t worry, it’s my treat this time.”
Brian Morgan nodded happily. After eating vegetarian food for a whole week, he felt like his intestines had shrunk. Now that a beautiful woman was inviting him, of course he wouldn’t refuse.
Twenty minutes later, they entered the city center of Yundu. The rows of high-rise buildings on both sides dazzled Brian Morgan; most of them were over seventy stories tall—even modern Shanghai didn’t have such a massive cluster of skyscrapers.
After entering the city, the roadway split into three levels: upper, middle, and lower. Grace Reed drove the maglev car onto the second level and switched from automatic to manual driving. The speed noticeably dropped; now the car was going a hundred kilometers per hour. Through the wide windows, he could see maple trees planted along the roadside. Judging by the color of the leaves, it must be autumn.
Ahead of them appeared a long suspension bridge with a huge span. According to the odometer, the bridge was at least three thousand meters long. A mighty river surged beneath it, its waters crystal clear.
Grace Reed noticed Brian Morgan’s curiosity and softly asked, “You’ve never been to Yundu before?”
“I’ve always lived at ‘Heimu Cliff’!” Brian Morgan only knew a few place names.
“Heimu Cliff? Isn’t that where Shaolin Temple is?” Grace Reed frowned slightly.
“You’ve been there?”
