Chapter 15

One morning, Brian Morgan rode an ox cart down the mountain. After passing through the granite-built mountain gate ahead, he left the grounds of Shaolin Temple. A straight and wide road appeared in his view, and the ox cart in front stopped. Henry Reed was the first to jump off the cart.

Samuel Reed pressed the pause button on the game and nudged Brian Morgan, signaling for Brian Morgan to get off as well.

Brian Morgan was the last to jump off the ox cart. Two monks tied the cart to a big tree beside the mountain gate, then followed behind Henry Reed toward the main road.

Brian Morgan quietly asked Samuel Reed, “Without the ox cart, how are we going to transport the rice later?”

Samuel Reed smiled, “The ox cart is just our means of getting around on the mountain. Once we enter the city, we have a special motor vehicle!”

In the distance, the sound of a train whistle could be heard. Brian Morgan looked in the direction of the sound and saw a vehicle resembling a bullet train coming toward them along the road.

Brian Morgan immediately noticed something unusual about the vehicle—it had no wheels, with about fifty centimeters of clearance between the chassis and the ground. The body was made of an unknown silver metal, reflecting a beautiful sheen in the morning sunlight.

The vehicle was extremely fast. In the blink of an eye, it had already come to a steady stop in front of them. Only then did Brian Morgan start to pay attention to the road beneath his feet—it seemed to be made entirely of metal. He guessed, “Could this be the latest maglev car?” He reached out to touch the vehicle, and at that moment, the doors opened outward like wings. He had seen this type of door before—it was the same design as the Porsche sports cars.

Henry Reed sat in the driver’s seat, while Brian Morgan and the others sat in the back. From the moment he saw the car, his mind felt muddled. Since when did Kaifeng have maglev cars? Was he hallucinating or...

Brian Morgan pinched his thigh hard, and the sharp pain reminded him that everything before his eyes was real. The maglev car started up, and Brian Morgan saw from the LCD dashboard that the speed quickly reached 300 kilometers per hour.

Brian Morgan looked at Samuel Reed in surprise and asked in a low voice, “Since we have such a cool car, why did we bother coming down the mountain in an ox cart?”

“Amitabha! In the pure land of Buddhism, the most valued thing is ‘nature’!” Samuel Reed said with a serious face.

Brian Morgan thought to himself, “Nature? Isn’t it just to avoid polluting the environment? Looks like even the Buddha is biased—as long as their own land is pure, they don’t care about anywhere else.”

Henry Reed explained, “In ten minutes, we’ll arrive at ‘Lanwu Town’. I’ve already assigned everyone’s tasks. After getting out, we’ll split up to buy supplies, and everyone must return to the parking lot in half an hour!”

Perhaps the driver was worried they’d be bored, so he turned on the car’s sound system to play Buddhist music, which made Brian Morgan drowsy. Fortunately, the journey wasn’t long, and ten minutes later they had already entered ‘Lanwu Town’. The name was quite unfamiliar to Brian Morgan, and he even began to regret not paying more attention in geography class.

Through the car window, he saw the maglev car slowly descend into the parking lot of a large supermarket, where many vehicles were already parked. They came in all shapes and sizes, but all shared one feature—no wheels.

Brian Morgan followed behind Samuel Reed and got out of the car. Henry Reed paired the two of them together and assigned them the task of buying daily necessities.

Henry Reed and four other monks went to buy rice, oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar. Since these were in different sections, they split up at the entrance.

Samuel Reed seemed very familiar with this supermarket and led Brian Morgan to the department store area via elevator number two. As they entered the elevator corridor, the flow of people gradually increased. Brian Morgan was surprised to see that there were many blond-haired, blue-eyed foreigners among them. The scale of this place was just like an international metropolis.

The supermarket’s facilities were extremely modern. Brian Morgan felt like Granny Liu entering the Grand View Garden for the first time, dazzled by everything he saw.

Brian Morgan and Samuel Reed followed the list and put the needed daily items into the cart. Brian Morgan carefully observed everything around him, looking for a way to slip away as soon as possible.

Even though everything he saw today was extremely strange, he still firmly believed he was living on the same Earth as before. As long as he could get away from these monks, he would soon find the real answer.

Two scantily clad, seductive women appeared ahead of them, casting flirtatious glances at Brian Morgan. The one on the right, with red-dyed hair, stuck out her tongue and gently licked her upper lip, her sexy demeanor full of allure.

Samuel Reed stared coldly at the two women. “Demons! Leave here at once, or don’t blame this little monk for being rude!”

Brian Morgan couldn’t help but want to laugh. Shaolin Temple was really too much—what they instilled in these young monks was definitely that all women were dangerous temptresses.

The two women glared resentfully at the Buddhist beads on Samuel Reed’s chest, then turned and walked away. Brian Morgan’s gaze lingered on their swaying hips.

Samuel Reed pulled Brian Morgan aside. “They’re just a couple of fox spirits, what’s there to look at!”

Brian Morgan laughed. “Watch your words, kid. Not all beautiful women are fox spirits. Besides, you’re a monk—don’t get so sharp-tongued.”
