Chapter 11

“The Three Emperors—one is the leader of the bird tribe, oh, that’s what you call the angel tribe, the patriarch Roy Clark. Gabriel Bennett, one is the emperor of the Wote Empire, William Clark XII, and one is the president of the Adventurers’ Guild, Arthur Clark. Their backgrounds aren’t clear, but these three are all quite formidable.”

“Ugh, why are they all men? Master, with your strength, you should be on that list too!”

Gavin Clark pouted and said.

“Hehe, our dragon tribe isn’t included. As for the Four Evil Demons—well, they’re not really evil, that’s just what humans call them. The fox tribe’s leader, Charlotte Bennett, is said to be stunningly beautiful, making many fall for her. The top expert of the snake tribe, Alice Bennett, has killed countless humans—among the experts, she hates humans the most, especially men.” She glanced at Gavin Clark and continued, “Another is the mysterious leader of the Skull Battalion, an assassin organization on the continent. All that’s known is his nickname: Scorched Earth. Some call him the Skull King. He’s probably a bad guy. The last one is the bear tribe elder, Clifford Clark.”

“Three out of four are from the beast tribes, and one is a demon. So the Five Saints must be humans, right?”

“That’s right. The Grand Magus Douglas, Sword Saint Gabriel Clark, president of the Sealers’ Guild Donald, the angel tribe’s saintess Candace Bennett, and the thief Ernest Clark. Hehe, he even managed to steal from our Dragon Island.”

“Haha, I wish I could make a name for myself someday too. Master, let’s keep training!” Gavin Clark had already finished his dinner in no time.

“Alright, I won’t go easy on you!”

“Why would a man be afraid of a woman!” Gavin Clark straightened up and got into a fighting stance... and was kicked out the next moment.

“I’m your master! Don’t you know how to respect your teacher?” Grace Bennett laughed. It was meant as a joke, but she found it quite amusing.

“If you want to be my master, show me some real skill! Dragon Strangle!”

“Bring it on!”

Boom... crackle, bang, crash...

“Get up!”

“I’m not done with you!”

Crackle, bang, crash... boom...

“Again!”

“Kill! I’m done for today—if I don’t kick you back, I’ll take your surname!”

Actually, Gavin Clark doesn’t have a surname. This name was given by an old comrade; in his hometown, it means good luck.

Gavin Clark kept repeating: charge, get blasted away, charge again. What he had was fighting spirit. Honestly, getting beaten up by a woman was not a pleasant feeling, whether she was a dragon girl or a demon girl.

Unknowingly, Grace Bennett started to increase her strength. Besides using battle aura to overpower him, the same moves didn’t work so well on Gavin Clark anymore. His learning speed truly amazed Grace Bennett, no less than the surprise of a full moon night.

And so, the two settled in Sunset Canyon. Occasionally, Grace Bennett would bring back some things from outside, and Gavin Clark would be in charge of turning them into delicious food. Sometimes Grace Bennett would disappear for a while, and those were the most comfortable days for Gavin Clark—after all, days without being tormented were the best.

Gavin Clark even made his own kind of fruit juice, which tasted great. It became a must-have for both him and Grace Bennett, though almost every time Gavin Clark ended up losing miserably.

Episode 1, Chapter 4: Reunion and Parting

Days passed by like this, and the two developed an unspoken understanding. When Grace Bennett was away, at first Gavin Clark felt very free, but as time went on, he became especially lonely. Luckily, Grace Bennett always came back quickly, never gone for more than ten days. She’d bring back plenty of ingredients for Gavin Clark to cook. Actually, Gavin Clark wasn’t good at everything, but when he was a follower of Kasaro, he learned a bit in the kitchen and tried his hand at cooking.

For Grace Bennett, who had little experience with good food, everything tasted great. To be honest, Gavin Clark thought he had a talent for cooking—if he ever lost his job, he could open a restaurant.

After a year of training, Gavin Clark’s strength improved by leaps and bounds. He didn’t know exactly what level he’d reached, but at least he could survive safely in Sunset Canyon, as long as he didn’t provoke any of the truly terrifying beings.

His battle aura training had reached a considerable level, and his daily tempering made him exceptionally tough. Now, he was getting beaten up less and less—he wasn’t sure if Grace Bennett was going easy on him, or if he’d just become strong enough.

Their sparring was mostly for practice. After all, many dragon tribe moves weren’t suitable for Gavin Clark; some required innate dragon abilities, which he didn’t have. He could gain some experience from sparring, but most of his fighting skills and experience came from battling all kinds of magical beasts in Sunset Canyon. If they were at the same power level, Grace Bennett was no longer a match for Gavin Clark. He truly had a gift for combat. People say humans are quick learners, and Gavin Clark was living proof.

Every day, Gavin Clark went out to fight, while Grace Bennett was in charge of making delicious food. In battle, she was the master; in cooking, Gavin Clark was the master. The little dragon girl gradually grew to love this work. Every time she created a tasty dish, Grace Bennett was delighted—especially if she got praise from Gavin Clark.

It was almost like the old saying: the man plows, the woman weaves. But in Sunset Canyon, it all seemed rather strange.

From afar, the rumbling sounds never stopped, along with the roars of classmate Gavin Clark.

“I’m done! That’s it for today—ow, that hurts so much.”
