Tashiu plopped down on the ground. In Sunset Canyon, every top-tier magical beast had its own territory. In fact, he and Grace Bennett had also staked out a patch of land for themselves, and the area right next to theirs belonged to the dark unicorn in front of him. Fierce beyond measure, the first time he trespassed, he was nearly killed, but for some reason, the unicorn let him go in the end. Since then, Gavin Clark often came here to hang out, and it wasn’t unusual for them to get into a scuffle.
“Heh heh, Little Black, am I getting stronger and stronger? My master always says so!”
The dark unicorn snorted in disdain, clearly thinking that Gavin Clark still couldn’t beat him, so how could he be considered strong?
“See? Classic case of judging a gentleman’s heart with a unicorn’s mind. You need to be humble!”
Speaking of stomachs, Gavin Clark felt hungry too. Ever since Grace Bennett fell in love with cooking, his life had become much more comfortable—at least there was always someone to prepare food after every hunt… Whether it tasted good was another matter. Many times, Grace Bennett used him as a test subject.
Just as he was about to leave, Gavin Clark’s clothes were bitten and held back. The dark unicorn grunted a few times.
“Come on, you want to come too? Well, that’s a bit tricky. You know, the delicious food made by the great and noble dragon girl isn’t something just any… beast can eat. My master is a princess of the dragon clan, you know. You’re putting me in a tough spot here!”
Gavin Clark put on a troubled expression. This guy had fallen in love with the taste after trying his lunch once, but as a holy beast, he naturally knew whose territory was across the way—a powerful dragon. There were a few at that level in Sunset Canyon, but being the same rank didn’t mean equal fighting power. Whether human, other races, or magical beasts, everyone knew how formidable the dragon clan was.
Little Black didn’t want to provoke a dragon, but couldn’t resist the temptation of delicious food. And as a member of such an intelligent species, he seemed to understand pride as well. For a magical beast, eating food made by a dragon girl was a kind of honor.
The dark unicorn rubbed its exquisitely artistic horn against Gavin Clark. As a holy beast, even light unicorns were rare, let alone a dark unicorn—almost unheard of. Of course, this had nothing to do with good or evil; untamed light unicorns could eat people just the same.
“Ahem, well, although it’s tricky, we’re old friends, so I’ll take care of it. Let’s go!”
The dark unicorn neighed happily, following Gavin Clark with great excitement. After a while, he seemed to think Gavin Clark was walking too slowly and, for once, let Gavin Clark ride on his back.
…This was Gavin Clark’s real goal all along!
Sigh, compared to humans, even the smartest magical beasts are pure at heart.
Hearing the sound of running approaching from afar, Grace Bennett knew Gavin Clark was back, and that he’d brought that silly unicorn along again. In the middle of the clearing stood a simple wooden cabin—that was the home of Grace Bennett and Gavin Clark.
It was strange, really, that Gavin Clark could actually understand the unicorn’s language—something even the dragon clan couldn’t do. Somehow, Grace Bennett felt a secret joy in her heart.
Whoosh…
Gavin Clark and the dark unicorn arrived. Waiting for them was an extra-large table, five dishes and a soup, plus juice made from xianhou mangoes.
The dark unicorn was still a bit wary of the dragon girl, but faced with the temptation of food, he quickly found his spot and started devouring the meal. Gavin Clark was just as unreserved. By comparison, Grace Bennett’s table manners were the most elegant. In no time, the whole table of food was swept clean.
Full and a bit lazy, the dark unicorn decided to rest nearby. With a giant dragon and a rare dark unicorn around, the other magical beasts in the area naturally kept as far away as possible.
Night fell. Gavin Clark was already exhausted and wanted to sleep. After sparring with Little Black all day, his whole body ached. Grace Bennett and Gavin Clark slept together, neither of them ever worrying about taboos—a dragon girl and a human, there didn’t seem to be anything to worry about.
But lying in bed, Grace Bennett couldn’t fall asleep, while on the other side, Gavin Clark was sleeping soundly. As a dragon girl on the verge of maturity, Grace Bennett had a lot on her mind. She quietly took out her purple diamond card. At some point, the loyalty value on it had reached ninety percent. Over the past year, the number had been rising steadily. Grace Bennett didn’t want to lose control, but it was useless… It seemed she had fallen for him.
Maybe it really was a huge joke, but the joke was only getting bigger. The reason she left Dragon Island was to escape an arranged marriage—a union between the Crystal Dragon and the Golden Dragon clans. She’d originally planned to go to Golden Dragon City to break off the engagement, but then all this happened.
Looking at Gavin Clark’s adorable sleeping face, Grace Bennett felt a warm glow in her heart. Even though he wasn’t great or a member of the dragon clan, so what! Just like the human bards sang in their poems, love needs no reason.
When the loyalty value started rising rapidly, she knew she was falling. The dragon clan’s devotion was showing itself in her, and she’d even started learning how human women cared for their men—something she’d never imagined before, but now did with joy.
“Ah, how dare you bite me! I’ll fight you!”
In his dreams, Gavin Clark was still battling, flailing his arms and legs, making Grace Bennett’s heart ache. Women are always attentive—Gavin Clark was working desperately to gain strength, but he never said a word about it.
Grace Bennett gently pulled the blanket over Gavin Clark. It looked like she wouldn’t be getting any sleep tonight, either.
