Chapter 14

If I were still in my Earth body, I would have been crippled by Chief on the very first day under his training. That kind of training method is even harsher than any elite special forces unit on Earth, yet I actually managed to stick it out and adapted to this intensity of exercise extremely quickly. Every day after the brutal training, I would notice subtle changes in my body, adapting to the demands.

“Luo! Your training has made me very satisfied. It seems you have a solid foundation, just lacking that bit of effort. Before leaving Luohe Village, do you want to try and awaken your life’s original battle energy?”

I was about to refuse with a bitter face, but Chief had already made the decision for me. He slapped my shoulder and barked, “A real man shouldn’t be wishy-washy. I see you’ve got some backbone, much better than those weak nobles. The weather’s nice today, I’ll take you to try it out right now!” Then, without giving me a chance to object, he dragged me off.

My sixteen Tibetan mastiffs saw Chief carrying me out of the village like a chick and silently followed behind me. Chief glanced back at them and praised, “The hunting dogs you’ve trained are quite perceptive, but they’re a bit too weak. In the Forest of the Sea of Immortality, there are many beasts far stronger than them.”

Over the past few days, I’d learned quite a bit about Luohe Village, so I asked curiously, “Chief Grandpa, why don’t you catch some fierce beasts to train for hunting? That would definitely double the game you bring back!”

Chief shook his head and sighed, “The village really can’t support too many people. Even if we had hunting beasts, there wouldn’t be enough fresh meat to feed them.”

“Then why doesn’t everyone move out of the Sea of Immortality? The environment here is really harsh!”

Chief chuckled, “Here, everyone lives by hunting and is quite free. If we moved out, we’d have to pay heavy taxes. Life outside probably wouldn’t be any better than here!”

Chief’s answer left me silent. Luohe Village is a rather poor place; most hunters don’t even have decent weapons. Outside the Sea of Immortality, there are four different regimes bordering it. From the villagers’ conversations, it seems human rights are a big issue, and the heavy taxes are something everyone fears like the plague!

“How could a perfectly good level-five civilization regress to such a backward state? Is the Juno civilization really so unsuitable for development?”

Such profound thoughts quickly short-circuited my brain. It was Chief who snapped me out of my daze. He pointed to a mountain peak ahead and said, “Everyone has immense power within their bodies. To awaken this power, you must endure a life-or-death trial. In a moment, I’ll throw you from the mountain into the pool below. If you’re lucky, you’ll awaken your life’s original battle energy.”

Chief’s words scared the soul out of me.

I’m not from this planet, and my body is very different. Maybe the humans here, after the peak of the Juno civilization’s genetic engineering, have inherited the potential to unleash limitless power in the face of danger. But I’m a pure Earthling—how could I expect such a lucky break?

But by now it was too late to refuse. Chief’s stubbornness is beyond my imagination. For the sake of my own life, I hurriedly called for help from the Queen Mother base.

Over the past ten days, Queen Mother has grown fifteen energy-absorbing tendrils, absorbing over twenty thousand energy points daily. With ample energy, evolution has sped up, and just the day before, Queen Mother had already evolved to level three. Many new functions have been unlocked.

“Can my body withstand the impact of… jumping into water from a mountain about seventy meters high?” I estimated the height of the mountain not far away and asked via mental waves.

“No, your body isn’t strong enough to withstand such an impact. You would likely sustain thirty-five to forty percent damage…”

“Is there any way to instantly increase my body’s strength?”

“Yes! Your body contains nine thousand energy points. With modulation, you can reach the level of a level-four bio-beast within fifteen minutes.”

“Then hurry up and start modulating me!”

“In which direction do you want to modulate your body?”

“The sturdiest possible, and with stronger recovery ability…”

“Preparing to modulate you into a Blade Warrior!”

After communicating with Queen Mother, I gave up on the order to have the bomb worker bees attack. Although Chief and I have no enmity, for the sake of my own life, I would abandon kindness if I had to. But since I don’t have to ignore my conscience, a round of bungee jumping isn’t that big of a deal.

Queen Mother’s mental waves immediately enveloped my whole body. This kind of long-distance modulation is a new ability unlocked at Queen Mother’s third evolution. As long as the target bio-beast carries enough energy, its body structure can be temporarily altered and new abilities granted.

After Queen Mother evolved to level three, I had tried remotely modulating the bomb worker bees, but as for whether I myself could be modulated, I really had no confidence at all.
