Chapter 18

In a hurry, I gave Queen Mother the order to produce unlimited Scythemen and to move toward me. I pulled the spear out of the Tibetan mastiff’s body, then gave these sharp-nosed creatures the command to track the scent of Old Chief.

Scythemen are the lower-level version of Blade Warriors, a type of biobeast that Queen Mother can produce. Some are entire series, often covering more than a dozen levels. Moreover, if enough energy is supplied to the lower-level biobeasts, Queen Mother can further modulate them to evolve.

Of course, this modulation can’t go on indefinitely. For example, a Scytheman can only evolve into a Blade Warrior after a second modulation, and not into any other type. However, when I accept temporary modulation from Queen Mother, I’m not subject to this limitation—a detail I carelessly overlooked.

Old Chief’s full-speed sprint was truly astonishing. I tracked him until sunset but still couldn’t catch up with his trail. Fortunately, the Blade Warrior’s body is incredibly strong, and after this modulation, my stamina seemed almost inexhaustible—I didn’t even feel tired.

However, the following Tibetan mastiffs and bomb worker bees were already at their limit. The biobeast Tibetan mastiff is only a first-level biobeast, with limited stamina, and the bomb worker bee isn’t a type known for endurance either. These self-destructing insects are actually very poor at long-distance flight.

I wiped the sweat from my forehead and muttered to myself, “Looks like I have to take a break. Without the mastiffs and bomb worker bees, I’ll have no combat power at all.”

Casually thrusting the spear into the ground, I found a big tree to relieve myself. Seeing that the mastiffs were truly exhausted, I could only sigh and shake my head, then took the Spitter Beast and Stone Bomb Worker Bees to look for some prey to replenish our food.

My luck was good. After half an hour, I found a flock of unknown birds about the size of turkeys. I was about to have the Spitter Beast blast them, when a sudden thought struck me. I flicked out the serrated blades from my arms and leapt up, startling the flock into flight.

By the time I landed, two fat birds were already skewered on the serrated blades. Delighted, I retracted the blades into my arms, grabbed the two dead birds, and started roasting them on the spot.

A standard Blade Warrior, in combat mode, has keratinized cells on the skin forming a hard protective armor. Right now, aside from being able to pop out two serrated blades from my arms, I had no other external changes. This was the result of the modulation standard I set for Queen Mother. Still, my physical enhancement was already astonishing.

Now, even if I ran into a saber-toothed tiger, I was confident I could defeat it barehanded.

After barely filling my stomach, I found a big tree by the campfire, leaned against the trunk, and quietly pondered. “If something goes wrong in the town, there’s nothing I can do to protect anyone. The best thing is to secretly rescue Grace Walker—I can’t act rashly.”

I checked my equipment. I’d already lost dozens of bomb worker bees; I only brought two hundred when I set out, but that should still be enough. However, these sixteen Tibetan mastiffs were just too weak. Compared to the Magneto-Dragon Beast I saw last time, they’d only be instantly killed.

The Spitter Beast is fine for hunting, but in battle, with my shooting skills, I probably wouldn’t hit many enemies.

Thinking of this, I pulled out the spear and examined it carefully. Logically, this weapon was also a product of the peak technology of the Giant Energy Civilization—it shouldn’t be as simple as a cold weapon.

The constantly flowing substance on the spear seemed to be some kind of strange material, but I didn’t know how to unleash its power. “If only I’d asked Old Chief—he’d definitely know how to use these weapons.”

Chapter 15: I Am a Non-Combatant

After being experimented on by aliens, the energy stored in my body was even higher than Queen Mother’s standard—over nine thousand points. Queen Mother only used four hundred and fifty points to modulate me into a Blade Warrior, so I still had plenty left.

After trying a few methods, I recalled some ancient martial arts legends from Earth and, on a whim, channeled my internal energy into the spear.

Heaven have mercy—when my energy poured into the spear, the flowing substance on it immediately sped up, gathering at the sharp tip. Then a dazzling light burst forth. Instinctively, I flicked my wrist, swinging the spear in a half-arc. A faint red energy wave, like a blade of air, slashed out. The large tree in front of the red energy wave was silently cut in two. The cut was smooth as a mirror, neater than any axe or saw could manage.

As more than a dozen massive trees crashed down, I stared dumbfounded at the spear in my hand, speechless for a long time. After unleashing its power, the red energy wave retracted back into the spear, resuming its slow flow.

“So the weapons of the Giant Energy Civilization are this powerful! Even the most advanced weapons on Earth don’t seem to have this kind of might.”

I reversed the spear and stuck it back into the ground, then immediately connected with Escape Pod No. 15 via mental waves, wanting to search for information about the Giant Energy Civilization.
