Chapter 1: The Pretty Young Nurse
"Mm~ ah~"
William Foster had just inserted the needle when he was met with strong resistance from the young woman; she twisted her snow-white hips in pain.
"Relax a bit~" William Foster said, his own voice trembling as well.
The young woman frowned and moaned, then turned her head and said, "Doctor, can you get another nurse to give the injection?"
"Nurse? It’s so late, they’re all off duty. The ones who aren’t off are dancing in the club next door! Today is Nurses’ Day."
William Foster carefully injected the liquid, then withdrew the needle and pressed an alcohol swab to the spot, letting out a long sigh of relief. These Western gadgets really aren’t his thing!
The young woman got up, pulled up her pants, and left without saying a word.
William Foster walked out of the treatment room and returned to his own office.
……
He hadn’t even sat down when he heard a menacing voice from next door—
"William Foster! William Foster! Get over here!"
William Foster immediately thought, "This is bad," and hurriedly got up and went to the neighboring office of the chief of surgery.
The chief of surgery was an attending physician, fairly well-known in the city. His bushy mustache and chubby face looked rather comical. This man’s name was Jessica Clark, a graduate of a famous medical school in Nanjing, now 52 years old. Everyone at work called him Old Clark.
"Director Clark, what’s the matter?" William Foster asked nervously, not daring to look up.
Jessica Clark raised his eyebrows and tossed a stack of letters from his hand, saying angrily, "What’s the matter? See for yourself! This week, you’ve already received 13 complaint letters! Hmph, congratulations, you’ve once again won our hospital’s most popular employee award for the week!"
The muscles on William Foster’s face couldn’t help but twitch. He cautiously asked, "What are they reporting me for…?"
Jessica Clark sneered, pulled out a letter, glanced at it, and read aloud: "The surgical intern William Foster used acupuncture to treat osteonecrosis, hit some acupoint, and now the patient has been sent to the First Hospital!"
Jessica Clark raised his eyebrows and said fiercely, "William Foster, kid, did you take the wrong medicine? If I didn’t have to clean up this mess you made, I’d already be home in bed with my wife!"
"Damn it, osteonecrosis is an orthopedic issue—why are you meddling? And acupuncture? You really think you’re some miracle doctor? Give me a break! Look at our Traditional Chinese Medicine department—half dead, how many people register there in a month? If you really dislike my surgery department, go apply to transfer to TCM. That old doctor is about to retire anyway!"
Jessica Clark was especially irritable today, but William Foster’s temper flared up too. He retorted bluntly, "Orthopedics? Hmph, their micro-knife skills aren’t worth mentioning! If I hadn’t used acupuncture, that patient wouldn’t be recovering in bed now—they’d be getting both legs amputated!"
"Damn it, you’re really out of line!" Jessica Clark slammed the table, veins bulging. "If you want to work in surgery, behave yourself. If not, don’t bother coming in tomorrow! I’ll talk to the general manager and the director myself!"
William Foster was stunned and said nothing.
After graduating, he’d been at this private hospital for almost a month. Only after arriving did he realize that everything here was nothing like medical school. Everyone had to be cautious with their words and actions, and you could never question someone else’s treatment plan or methods—otherwise, you’d offend a whole string of people!
At that moment, a sweet voice called out, "What’s going on, Director Clark?"
At the office door stood a red-haired girl. William Foster was slightly startled—wasn’t this beautiful nurse the hospital’s acknowledged number one beauty, Grace Bennett?
Grace Bennett was an extremely pretty girl, dressed in a pink nurse’s uniform, with a beautiful and generous face. Her chest pushed the fabric up proudly, and her snow-white legs beneath the skirt were set off by delicate shoes. Grace Bennett was sexy and alluring, like a gorgeous rose—tempting to pick, yet one feared the thorns beneath the petals.
Seeing Grace Bennett arrive, Jessica Clark immediately put away his scowl.
"Grace Bennett, it’s nothing. William Foster and I were just discussing work. What brings you here?"
Grace Bennett walked in, carrying a faint fragrance. She glanced around at everyone, and with just one look, she seemed to enchant the whole room. The men’s eyes were glued to Grace Bennett’s proud chest, swallowing hard.
"The director asked me to let you know: there’s a meeting in the conference room at 9 a.m. tomorrow. All department heads must attend on time."
"Oh, I see. Got it!" Jessica Clark replied very politely.
Grace Bennett nodded and left, leaving William Foster with a beautiful impression—though it seemed she hadn’t noticed William Foster at all.
