Jessica Clark put on a sour face and said coldly, “Go home after work today and think it over! If you believe you can do this job well, come back tomorrow. If not, then don’t bother coming in.”
After saying this, Jessica Clark took off the white coat, changed into a sharp suit, and left with a smug look. Jessica Clark was delighted inside—having an intern doctor at his beck and call every day felt amazing!
……
After clocking out, William Foster was just about to leave when someone grabbed his arm from behind. It was his college classmate and best friend, Tommy, who worked in the hospital’s infertility department. They were currently sharing a two-bedroom apartment.
Tommy believed that the primary purpose of human existence was to have children, and he couldn’t stand to see young couples unable to have a child as the fruit of their love. So, for the sake of humanity’s survival, Tommy resolutely chose to work in infertility.
“William Foster, let’s go for a drink after work!” Tommy said cheerfully.
“I haven’t been paid—where would I get the money to drink?” William Foster replied, looking defeated.
Tommy patted him on the shoulder and comforted him, “No worries, it’s on me. Let’s go have a feast!”
……
“Bang~!”
The beer mug landed heavily on the table, and Tommy showed a rare melancholic side.
“This morning, about your suggestion… I bought a pot of lilies of the valley and gave it to Grace Bennett. You said it symbolizes purity and happiness, but… I’ve never failed with a girl in my life, except this time…”
William Foster looked a bit surprised—this guy actually went and did it.
“So, what about Grace Bennett? What flower language did she give you?”
“The flower language she gave me…”
Tommy said, feeling aggrieved, “She pulled the lilies of the valley out of the pot and threw them in the trash right there. Then she went to the gynecology corridor, pulled a daisy from the windowsill, stuck it in the pot, and gave it back to me… I checked in the office later and found out that the daisy’s flower language is—childish! Sigh, she actually gave me a chrysanthemum…”
William Foster chuckled, “Actually, whether it’s lilies or chrysanthemums, they all carry good wishes. Don’t take it too hard.”
Tommy laughed, “No worries, I gave that pot of flowers to the little nurse Lily instead. First DOWN!”
……
That night, Tommy slept with the little nurse Lily and even brought her home. When she saw William Foster, Lily blushed and quickly ran into a room. William Foster, standing in the living room, called out, “That’s my room!”
Tommy was stunned for a moment, then said, “Well, we’ll use your room tonight. William Foster, why don’t you go out for a walk?”
William Foster was speechless. He grabbed some change and went out. Deep down, he knew: aside from his time spent hooking up, Tommy was actually a pretty loyal friend.
He walked to the park by the apartment complex. The moonlight was bright and clear.
Standing atop an artificial hill, William Foster looked up at the sky and muttered, “Was I really wrong? Heaven, can you give me an answer?”
Chapter Two: The Celestial Medical Tome
On a full moon night, atop Ling Mountain.
Thunder rumbled faintly in the sky. An old man in a white robe soared through the air, his white beard fluttering in the evening breeze.
The old man’s eyes shone with a hidden brilliance. With white hair and a youthful face, he looked down at the earth, then suddenly threw his head back and let out a long howl—
“I am already invincible in this world~~”
As soon as he finished speaking, a meteor streaked across the sky!
“Bang~!”
The old man’s head collided solidly with the incoming object!
Gradually, the old man’s body began to convulse, then phosphoresced into countless points of light—a sign of a high-level cultivator’s death. He sighed deeply, “A heavenly tribulation! I still couldn’t escape it… So be it, I’ll leave this thing for someone destined to find it!”
“Whoosh~!”
A thick scripture slid from the old man’s arms and fell from the void down to the mortal world.
Nearby, the murder weapon that killed the old man drifted away on the wind. It was a huge, blackened tube, inscribed with: “Shenzhou 48, Section 2 Abandoned Module.”
……
In a park in downtown Suzhou, a girl was passing through. Since the park was open, many people took shortcuts through it, but it was late now and the park was nearly empty.
But tonight, there was someone there—more than one, in fact! A thug jumped out from the woods!
“Ah~ What are you doing!?”
The girl’s startled cry woke William Foster, who was standing atop the artificial hill in the park. He looked down and saw two figures struggling together, one of whom was clearly a girl!
The thug leered, “Hey, little lady, just be good and have some fun with me, and you’ll be fine~~”
The girl panicked and shouted, but the thug quickly covered her mouth.
William Foster jumped down from the hill and sang out, “In broad daylight, under the open sky! How dare a rat like you commit such a vile act?”
The thug was startled at first, then burst out laughing, “Ha! Broad daylight? It’s pitch black out here! Trying to play the hero? Buddy, why don’t you go first? Haha, this chick is top quality—I’ve never had one this hot before!”
William Foster was furious and lunged at him!
“Bang~!”
The thug was quick and landed a solid punch on William Foster’s chest, making him double over from the blow.
“I thought you were some kind of expert, but you’re just trash!” the thug laughed loudly.
