Chapter 12

William Foster still couldn’t believe all of this. Shaking his head with a smile, he said, “Forget it, why bother thinking about that? I should just focus on what’s in front of me. Oh right, Icy, you still don’t know what my profession is, do you?”

“Profession? What’s that?” Icy blinked her eyes.

William Foster patiently explained, “During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, well, weren’t there categories like farmers, swordsmen, retainers, merchants? My current job is similar—I’m a doctor, pretty much like the ‘langzhong’ from your era!”

Icy let out an “ah” and smiled, saying, “So brother is a ‘langzhong’!”

William Foster nodded. “Yeah, so from now on, I’ll be going to the clinic to treat people. That way, I’ll have money to buy you new clothes and food. Oh, by the way, Icy, do you feel hungry now?”

Icy frowned, looking quite cute. She thought for a moment and said, “It’s been so long, I’ve forgotten what hunger even feels like…”

William Foster couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time, so he said, “Alright then, tomorrow after I go out, I’ll buy some food in the evening and see if it can spark your interest in eating.”

Icy nodded obediently. “Okay, I’ll listen to brother.”

Actually, William Foster felt conflicted. If Icy didn’t need to eat to stay alive, it would save him money. But he still hoped Icy could eat—at least then, he’d feel like his little sister was a normal person, not some fairy who didn’t need food.

As night deepened, William Foster grew tired. After reading the “Qing Nang Heavenly Book” for a while, he decided to sleep. But Icy had taken over his bed and was flipping through a traditional Chinese edition of “Dream of the Red Chamber”...

So William Foster grabbed a blanket and decided to sleep in the living room.

“Brother, where are you going?” Icy jumped off the bed and asked.

William Foster smiled and said, “Brother was never a crown prince in this life, so I’m poor. The national economy is inflating, America is fighting Iraq again, and I can’t afford a house... So there’s only one bed. Icy, you sleep on the bed, I’ll sleep in the living room.”

Icy blinked and said, “Brother, you sleep on the bed. Icy doesn’t want to sleep. For such a long time, I was almost always in a sleeping state, so now I’m not sleepy at all, really!”

William Foster was a bit puzzled, thinking to himself, this fairy sister... even saves him a bed...

So, William Foster slept on the bed, while Icy sat in front of William Foster’s computer, staring at it for a long time without figuring out what it was. William Foster smiled sideways—when there’s time, he’d have to teach her more things.

……

The next morning, Tommy’s voice called from outside the door.

“William Foster, get up! Time for work! If you don’t get up, what the heck were you doing last night?!”

He was so exhausted that night that when William Foster opened his eyes, sunlight was already streaming through the window. He turned to look and found Icy lying at the edge of the bed, hugging his arm, already asleep. Her long eyelashes trembled slightly—she was breathtakingly beautiful!

“Icy?”

William Foster gently shook Icy’s shoulder. Icy opened her eyes and called out sweetly, “Brother... you’re still here. I just had a nightmare and thought everything from yesterday was a dream. I thought I’d have to go back to Feiyu. I’m so glad you’re here, brother...”

William Foster’s heart trembled. In her past life, just how much did Icy depend on him?

“Icy, brother has to go to work now. I’ll be back when it gets dark tonight. Be good and stay at home, don’t go anywhere, okay?”

As he said this, William Foster felt like he was coaxing a little girl in kindergarten. But Icy didn’t mind at all. Instead, she sweetly said, “Okay, brother, come back early~”

William Foster got up, washed up, locked the door, and went to work with Tommy.

Chapter 7: The Beautiful Boss

William Foster and Tommy each bit into a piece of bread and rushed into the hospital like the wind. When they clocked in, they found they were only a minute away from being late. Tommy let out a sigh of relief and complained, “Seriously, you even stayed up that late just watching an adult film. Hmph, if I didn’t know you so well, I’d really think you brought a woman home!”

William Foster chuckled and said, “No way.”

“By the way, how did the shopping go? How much did you spend? You still haven’t given me back my card!”

William Foster quickly handed the bank card back to Tommy and said, “I spent nearly two thousand, but I took five thousand from you. There’s still some left. I’ll pay you back when my salary goes up.”

“Pay me back my ass! Don’t be so formal with me over this little bit of money. Besides, if my bro can land such a hot chick, I’d be happy for you! Oh right, where are the clothes? Why didn’t you bring them to give to her?”

William Foster tensed up and quickly said, “Uh, don’t worry about that. I know what I’m doing!”

Tommy gave him a look of disdain. “Know what you’re doing, my foot! If you really did, you’d have a girlfriend by now. Even my nephew can go buy soy sauce already!”

William Foster gave a wry smile.

At that moment, a sweet voice came from behind: “William Foster already has a girlfriend?”

William Foster and Tommy both froze. That voice was all too familiar—who else could it be but Grace Bennett?!

They turned around, and sure enough, Grace Bennett was standing there, looking lovely.

“William Foster doesn’t have a girlfriend, I can vouch for that!” Tommy patted his chest in assurance.
