Chapter 14

The girl was slightly surprised, then actually showed a hint of a smile, and followed behind William Foster, letting him hold her hand. It was William Foster, however, who, in a fit of anger, had already forgotten that he shouldn’t be holding a young girl’s hand like this.

The dean’s office was upstairs. As William Foster led the girl upstairs, the dean happened to be coming out of his office. When he saw William Foster and the girl, he was immediately taken aback.

“Dean, there’s something I need to report to you!”

William Foster was fuming, but it seemed that his words were filtered out by Dean Harris. The old dean’s gaze was fixed on the girl whose hand William Foster was holding, and he said something that made William Foster’s heart skip a beat—

“Mr. Cooper, you’re back at the company so early? I just happen to have some matters to report to you!”

Chapter 8: Testing the Waters

“What? Mr. Cooper?!”

William Foster let go of the girl’s hand as if shocked by electricity. Could this stunningly beautiful girl really be the legendary number one figure of this hospital?

Seeing her identity exposed, the girl giggled and reached out her fair, delicate hand to William Foster: “Hello, I’m the general manager of Ren’ai Hospital, Susan Cooper!”

But William Foster didn’t shake her hand again. With a cold face, he said, “What was that all about just now?”

Susan Cooper showed a trace of guilt and said, “I’m sorry. I originally just wanted to test the hospital’s current operations and situation, but I didn’t expect to cause so much trouble. As for that gynecology doctor, just refunding the money is fine, but if this keeps escalating, the hospital’s reputation will definitely suffer. For a private hospital, reputation is everything!”

“You… do you find this fun?!”

William Foster felt his pure sense of justice had been deceived and left angrily.

……

Dean Harris was dumbfounded: “Mr. Cooper, what’s going on? You and William Foster…?”

Susan Cooper smiled helplessly: “Well, I’ll find a chance to apologize to him later… Is William Foster a new doctor?”

“Yes, he’s temporarily assigned to the Traditional Chinese Medicine department. This young man’s acupuncture skills have a lot of potential to be developed. What do you think of him?”

“Heh, he’s alright~”

Susan Cooper gave a faint smile, but her brows furrowed slightly.

……

“Do all rich people like to play these kinds of tricks?”

William Foster sat in his chair, looking up at the duty roster, unable to help but wonder. That girl just now looked so pure and innocent—it was really hard to imagine she was the boss of this hospital.

Now look what happened: he’d just walked the boss around the hospital holding her hand. How was he supposed to explain this if people asked about it later?

He felt uneasy. He’d just offended the boss a little, too. What if she got angry and docked his pay? His salary was already less than two thousand; if it got cut any more, how would he support his little sister Icy?

After thinking for a long time, William Foster actually felt he should go apologize. This really proved the saying: “Under the eaves, one has to bow their head!”

Just as he was thinking this, a pleasant voice suddenly came from outside: “William Foster, there’s a patient registered in the Traditional Chinese Medicine department. Get ready~”

It was Grace Bennett’s voice. She stood smiling at the door and said, “From now on, I’ll be in charge of all the lab tests, forms, and injections for the TCM department and its patients. In other words, I’ll be your subordinate from now on. If you need anything, just let me know~”

William Foster was so excited that he thought to himself, if he asked her to be his girlfriend, would she agree…

……

Not long after, the patient arrived—a skinny, frail old man, helped upstairs by his son.

The old man’s leg was bent and trembled from time to time. William Foster noticed this from a distance and couldn’t help but frown.

“Doctor, please take a look at my father’s illness. His leg hasn’t been able to touch the ground for almost two years!” The young man pleaded as soon as he saw William Foster.

Grace Bennett stood beside William Foster, her beautiful big eyes full of sympathy for the patient.

“Sir, please have a seat. I’ll examine you.”

William Foster pulled over a chair for the old man. At this moment, the old man’s son said, “We’ve been to so many big hospitals for my father’s illness, seen all kinds of famous doctors, spent so much money we even sold our house, but nothing has helped. My father says if it can’t be cured this time, he’ll… Doctor, please take a look. None of the Western doctors could help, so I can only try Chinese medicine, even though they say all TCM doctors are just old quacks.”

William Foster felt a bit awkward. He crouched down and rolled up the old man’s pant leg, only to see that the leg was skin and bones, covered with faint mottled marks that were barely visible unless you looked closely.

“There’s cold poison mixed into the bone!” William Foster was shocked and asked, “Sir, what kind of work did you do before? Did you ever have an experience of being frozen?”

The old man was surprised and said, “Young doctor, how did you know? Back when I worked at the railway bureau, there was a blizzard once. I didn’t make it back to the station in time and was buried under the snow all night. I was rescued the next day, but ever since then, my old leg hasn’t worked right.”

“A blizzard?” William Foster was a bit puzzled and asked, “A normal blizzard shouldn’t cause this, right? Was there, by any chance, a well where you were buried under the snow?”

The old man was even more surprised: “Yes, how did you know?”
