Chapter 11: The Surprise Brought by the Divine Artifact
“It’s definitely a false accusation! I’m a virgin!” Brian Carter protested, realizing that being in his early twenties and still a virgin wasn’t exactly something to be proud of. He simply shut his mouth, inwardly doubting what kind of decent compensation these druids—so poor they wore animal skins—could possibly offer him as an apology.
A few worthless stones? Or maybe some fallen wolf fangs? Or three or five tattered animal pelts?
Brian Carter shook his head, no longer bothering to guess what good things this backwater place could provide. The best thing was to leave this forest as soon as possible. Otherwise, if he stayed any longer with no one to talk to, he feared even his ability to speak would atrophy.
“Well then, please put this away…” Jack thought for a long time, unsure what to call the Serra Jiong in Brian Carter’s hand, so he simply said, “Put away your iron tube.”
“Put away the iron tube?” Brian Carter looked at Jack warily, then glanced at the fireball ring on his finger. With his last protective charm in hand, putting away his weapon for now could be seen as a gesture of goodwill.
With a flick of the space bracelet on his wrist, which looked like a birthmark, Brian Carter casually placed the Serra Jiong inside. The faces of the dozen druids surrounding him all showed expressions of utter shock.
Sensing their stares, Brian Carter was puzzled. “What’s wrong?”
“You… you…” Jack’s eyes bulged like a cow’s, and after swallowing twice, he stammered, “What you just opened… was that the legendary divine artifact, a space bracelet?”
“Legendary?” Brian Carter frowned and thought for a moment. “It should be a space bracelet, but whether it’s a divine artifact, I don’t know.”
All the druids were stunned! A space bracelet! On this continent, any space bracelet, no matter how small the space inside, was truly a divine artifact! Only gods could create space!
Jack suddenly shivered.
A divine artifact! Legend had it that each had its own noble artifact soul. Only true powerhouses could gain the recognition of a divine artifact and be qualified to use it! Ordinary people weren’t even allowed to touch one!
Not only could this man touch a divine artifact, but he could use it so easily! Could it be that he was a master hiding his true strength?
Rumor had it that true masters could conceal their power. Ordinary warriors couldn’t sense any aura from them at all.
As a druid, a child of the Druid God, Jack possessed senses surpassing those of humans. He had always been confident in his perception. Yet at this moment, he began to doubt his own abilities.
Is it because I’m not strong enough? Is that why I can’t sense any power from him?
Jack’s eye twitched violently, and a wave of fear surged in his heart. If they had really attacked just now, would they all have been wiped out?
A master! This human with elven blood was very likely a true master! Otherwise, he wouldn’t have put away his only life-saving magical weapon so easily.
The same thought quickly arose in the minds of the other druids.
A hint of doubt also appeared in Katherine’s eyes. She had been seriously injured while fleeing. Without a month of bed rest, there was no way she could have recovered.
How had this man healed all her wounds in such a short time?
Hiss! Suddenly, the sound of powerful stomping rang out. A gray wolf beside Jack bared its sharp fangs and lunged, its huge jaws aiming straight for Brian Carter’s throat.
Whoosh! A ball of fiery red light gathered at Brian Carter’s fingertips.
“Flame!”
After surviving in the forest for so many days, Brian Carter had become thoroughly proficient in this, his only means of survival. When danger appeared, he instinctively used it.
The gray wolf, which hadn’t expected Brian Carter to have such a magical attack, was struck squarely on the head by the red fireball. Its entire body instantly ignited, and in the blink of an eye, it was reduced to a charred corpse.
A faint warm current flowed through Brian Carter’s body, quickly merging with the slightly stronger current from before, forming an even more powerful stream.
“So, is this how druids express friendship to their friends?” Brian Carter tried to appear calm as he looked at Jack, though in reality his heart had nearly leapt out of his mouth from the tension just now. If all the wolves had attacked at once, he’d be dead by now.
Instant-cast magic? The eyes of the dozen druids nearly popped out of their sockets. None of them noticed that, at the moment Brian Carter cast the spell, the ring on his finger had emitted a faint red glow.
Gulp. Jack swallowed again, secretly relieved that he hadn’t actually launched an attack earlier.
Instant-cast magic! Even the lowest level of instant-cast magic was a power only a first-rank human-level grand mage could possess!
Instant-cast magic, and able to use a divine artifact like a space bracelet. Jack was almost certain now: this human with elven blood before him was a master hiding his true strength.
