Chapter 4

Looking around at the decorations in the room—things you’d only see in a fantasy movie—Andrew Walker gently shook his head, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly. So, resurrection by borrowing a corpse was actually real, and it wasn’t even in the same world.

“No matter what, since I’m here, I should live this life well.”

Andrew Walker let out a third sigh. After this sigh, his previously thin and weak upper body suddenly straightened, and there was a sharpness and eagerness in his eyes: “Besides, in my previous life, it was hard to find a worthy opponent, but here, there are so many strong ones…”

Andrew Walker had just put on that rather complicated-looking belted robe when footsteps sounded behind him, followed by a startled cry and the crisp sound of a basin hitting the floor.

“Young master… you’re awake!”

Andrew Walker turned his head and stared at the girl of about fourteen or fifteen standing at the door, dressed in a bright green outfit. Her hands were empty, and at her feet a washbasin was spinning in circles, water splashed all over the floor. Her face was full of joy.

What was this girl’s name again?

Oh, Abigail Abbott. She was that guy’s personal maid, taking care of his daily needs—well, not that kind of need…

Andrew Walker gave a faint smile, revealing a few white teeth. “Are you really that excited to see your young master awake?”

Abigail Abbott snapped back to her senses and immediately became flustered, hurriedly saying, “S-sorry… Third young master, I… I’m just so happy.”

Apologizing in a panic, Abigail Abbott quickly squatted down to pick up the basin. Seeing the water all over the floor, she looked even more anxious. Glancing at the smiling Andrew Walker, she quickly said, “I’ll go mop the floor right away…”

Andrew Walker waved his hand, stopping Abigail Abbott from fleeing. “No rush, no rush. By the way, has anything happened in the manor these past few days?”

Abigail Abbott’s gaze shifted slightly, but she didn’t dare say much. She only replied, “Young master, you’ve just recovered from your injuries. You should rest in bed a bit longer. I’ll go inform the master.”

Seeing Abigail Abbott’s evasive look, Andrew Walker knew that something must have happened in the Wu household these past few days that he didn’t know about.

The Wu family and the Wan family were both ninth-rank nobles in Songyun City, both prominent figures. Andrew Walker was the Wu family’s most beloved youngest son, and Grace Warren was the only son and heir of the Wan family. The two of them had a public brawl in the street, leaving both sides seriously injured. There was no way the two families could just pretend nothing happened.

What’s more, the previous owner of Andrew Walker’s body was unable to cultivate the Strengthening Technique that over ninety-five percent of people in this world could practice. His body was frail, yet he was openly attacked by Grace Warren, who had already reached the fifth level of the Strengthening Technique. How could the Wu family swallow such an insult?

Even though the outcome was somewhat unexpected, even if the Wu family was willing to endure it, the Wan family probably wouldn’t.

Grace Warren was the Wan family’s only son. If anything happened to him, the Wan family would have no heir, and their ninth-rank noble status would be revoked. That would be as good as a death sentence for them.

“Go ahead and tell me. I’ll find out sooner or later anyway, so why hide it from me?”

Hearing Andrew Walker say this, Abigail Abbott realized it was true. She didn’t dare meet Andrew Walker’s eyes and said softly, “That day, after you had a conflict with the Wan family, the guards rushed over and brought you back. When the eldest young master found out, he led the family’s guards straight to the Wan family…”

“And then?”

Seeing Abigail Abbott pause, Andrew Walker frowned, the corners of his mouth pulling into a rather cold arc.

Abigail Abbott glanced nervously at Andrew Walker, suddenly feeling that the young master’s expression and gaze were different from before, though she couldn’t quite say how.

“Just say it directly, no need to hold back.”

Only then did Abigail Abbott whisper, “Yes… The eldest young master hadn’t even reached the Wan family when he ran into their people coming this way. The two groups had a fierce argument in the street. The Wan family said you made their heir cough up blood, so they wanted to take revenge on the Wu family’s heir. The eldest young master was furious and started fighting with the Wan family’s people. In the chaos, the eldest young master’s leg was broken, and he’s still bedridden…”

Andrew Walker was slightly stunned, a strange feeling rising in his heart, but he didn’t show it. He nodded and asked, “And… father?”

Saying those two words made that strange feeling in Andrew Walker’s heart intensify. In his previous life, Andrew Walker was raised by his master, trained from a young age, never knowing who his parents were. Maybe growing up alone made him develop that independent, do-as-I-please attitude, acting without scruples—a style that even the Yanhuang Special Police found troublesome.

If it weren’t for the fact that Andrew Walker was truly the most skilled member of the Yanhuang Special Police, he probably would have been kicked out long ago. After all, in the Yanhuang Special Police, you had to obey orders and follow commands, but he… was definitely an oddball.
