Chapter 9

After taking a bath and changing into clean clothes, the refreshed Andrew Walker walked out of his room. Following the path in his memory, he passed through the garden and arrived in front of a large house at the back. He gently knocked on the door, and a slightly puzzled voice came from inside: “Who is it?”

“Big brother, it’s me.”

Andrew Walker gently pushed open the door and walked straight in. After all, his big brother wasn’t married and lived alone.

“Third brother!” Lying on the bed, Logan Walker saw Andrew Walker walk in, his eyes immediately widening with surprise and delight. He instantly propped himself up with both hands and jumped to the floor, supporting himself on one leg as he shouted loudly, “You’re finally awake, that’s great! Third brother, is your hand okay?”

Andrew Walker smiled and nodded, gently swinging his right arm to show that it was fine. His gaze, however, fell on Logan Walker’s leg, which was suspended and wrapped in thick bandages. “I heard that you broke your leg trying to avenge me…”

Logan Walker spat on the ground, his face showing no sadness at all about his broken leg. Instead, he looked excited: “Those bastards just had more people, that’s all. If I’d brought more men, there’s no way I’d have broken a leg. Once I recover, I’ll go settle the score. But third brother, I heard you broke five of Grace Warren’s ribs with a single punch and made him cough up blood on the spot. He’s still bedridden and can’t move. Weren’t you unable to cultivate? How did you get so strong?”

Looking at Logan Walker, Andrew Walker’s eyes showed a hint of amusement. This Logan Walker was truly bold and rough—he wasn’t the least bit afraid even after having his leg broken, and his manner was brash and unrefined, nothing like a noble. Yet seeing Logan Walker like this, Andrew Walker actually found him very agreeable. After all, this was genuine character, without a trace of pretense.

Having a big brother like this didn’t seem so bad.

Chapter 5: The Warren Family Pays a Visit

Hearing Logan Walker’s question, Andrew Walker answered without the slightest hesitation: “I don’t know either. I just felt a surge of pure but strange energy suddenly appear in my arm, and then that’s what happened…”

Logan Walker raised his eyebrows, staring at Andrew Walker in amazement, as if Andrew Walker’s face had suddenly turned into a flower. “Can you still feel it now?”

Andrew Walker shook his head. As for the matter of the Eight Desolations Spirit Gathering Cauldron in his body, Andrew Walker would of course keep his mouth shut, but he needed to find a reason to explain the changes that were about to happen to him.

Logan Walker let out a disappointed “oh.” Since Andrew Walker couldn’t cultivate the Body Strengthening Technique, his status had dropped to that of a commoner. Not only could he not enjoy the privileges of nobility, he couldn’t even wear silk clothes—he could only wear coarse cloth, as this was an iron law of the empire: commoners were forbidden to wear silk, no matter how rich or high their social status. Only nobles had that privilege, as a symbol of their status.

Hearing Andrew Walker say he could feel energy in his body, Logan Walker naturally had some hope, wishing his younger brother could change. He didn’t expect him to reach any great heights, but if he could just cultivate the Body Strengthening Technique and reach the first level of the Body Strengthening Realm, like a normal person, that would be good enough.

Logan Walker had no desire to inherit their father’s ninth-rank noble title in the future. He aspired to become a true spiritual cultivator, so he hoped his younger brother could cultivate the Body Strengthening Technique. That way, even if he himself failed in cultivation, his brother could inherit the noble title and live a life of comfort.

Andrew Walker understood Logan Walker’s thoughts. Seeing the disappointment on Logan Walker’s face, Andrew Walker smiled and said, “Don’t worry, big brother. I survived even in this situation. As the saying goes, ‘Great misfortune brings great fortune.’ Maybe my fate will really change in the future…”

Logan Walker thought about it and agreed. For someone unable to cultivate the Body Strengthening Technique to break five of an opponent’s ribs barehanded in a fight against someone at the fifth level of the Body Strengthening Realm was already a miracle. And since such a miracle had happened to his third brother, maybe even stranger things would happen in the future.

“Third brother, you’re right. Great misfortune brings great fortune…”

With a sigh, Logan Walker’s gaze turned fierce again. “But this time The Warren Family has really gone too far. Grace Warren actually bullied you, someone who can’t cultivate. He got what he deserved, but this matter definitely won’t end here!”

Andrew Walker nodded firmly. “That’s right. My hand, your leg—we can’t just let it go.”

Logan Walker responded loudly, but then looked at Andrew Walker’s face with some confusion and said, “Huh, why are you agreeing so readily today? You seem a bit different from before.”

Andrew Walker smiled. The old Andrew Walker, unable to cultivate, had always felt inferior and tried to avoid conflict. Even the fight that led to his death happened only because he’d drunk too much and was mocked into acting on impulse. Normally, he would just swallow his anger. But the current Andrew Walker was the arrogant to the bone, never-suffer-a-loss Special Police No. 13 of Yanhuang—how could he possibly be the same as before?
