The old man in his fifties was the complete opposite of Thomas Quinn in build—a downright fat man. The brocade robe on his body was forced into giving him the air of a nouveau riche.
His face bore the same look of anger, but in his eyes there was a hint of slyness and malice that was hard to detect.
The head of the Wan family, Samuel Warren, father of Grace Warren.
Samuel Warren's tone matched the malice in his eyes—gloomy and cold, just like the sky outside at that moment: “Edward Walker, don’t forget, your son cannot cultivate the Body Strengthening Technique. His status is not that of a noble; he is just a commoner...”
“You should know the iron law of the Empire very well. When a commoner is the first to attack a noble and seriously injures him, what is the crime...” In Samuel Warren’s words there was undisguised hatred, and also a strange sense of satisfaction, like a fox catching a hen that had escaped the coop.
Even though Andrew Walker had only heard this one sentence, he already understood what Samuel Warren had come for today.
He was here to take revenge on the The Walker Family, and he was using the Empire’s iron law as his weapon.
The Empire’s iron law stipulated that among the four classes—slaves, commoners, nobles, and royals—the hierarchy was from low to high. If a commoner injured a noble, it was a serious crime. Both the The Walker Family and the The Warren Family were originally ninth-rank nobles, of equal status. But unexpectedly, Andrew Walker could not cultivate the Body Strengthening Technique, so even though he was the son of the The Walker Family head, he did not qualify as a noble and was merely a commoner.
If Andrew Walker could cultivate the Body Strengthening Technique, even if only to the first level, then today’s incident would at most be considered a quarrel between two nobles that escalated into a fight, with both parties injured. At most, there would be some bickering, but no one could make a big deal out of it. However, because of Andrew Walker’s commoner status, the The Warren Family found an excuse to attack him. Now, with the The Warren Family joining forces with the The Quinn Family to come to the The Walker Family, their goal was to take Andrew Walker away.
This was obviously making a fuss over a minor issue, and obviously done with malice. Anyone with half a brain could see that. But the Empire’s iron law did exist, and this made Edward Walker extremely angry.
“Hmph, Samuel Warren, don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. But you’re being a bit too despicable. Your son Grace Warren, with the strength of the fifth level of the Body Strengthening Realm, actually bullied Andrew in broad daylight. Your The Warren Family really doesn’t take our The Walker Family seriously, do you?”
Chapter 6: I Disagree
Facing the furious Edward Walker, Samuel Warren’s gloomy face showed no sign of shame or embarrassment. He snorted coldly, “Edward Walker, no matter what you say, the fact is your commoner son broke five of my son’s ribs. He’s still lying at home. You can’t argue with that, can you?”
Edward Walker wanted to refute him, but really couldn’t find anything to say. Many people had witnessed the incident, including the guards from the The Walker Family who rushed over. Grace Warren had indeed broken several ribs and even coughed up blood on the spot.
“Samuel Warren, do you really believe that a fifteen-year-old child who hasn’t cultivated the Body Strengthening Technique could break five ribs of your son, who’s in his twenties and at the fifth level of the Body Strengthening Realm?”
Although Edward Walker couldn’t refute the facts, that didn’t mean he had nothing to say: “I suspect your The Warren Family staged this as a ruse to frame our The Walker Family—a self-inflicted injury ploy, perhaps?”
Samuel Warren hadn’t expected Edward Walker to suggest such a thing and was furious: “To deal with your useless son, do I really need to go that far?”
Edward Walker’s face darkened. He slammed his palm on the table and pointed at Samuel Warren’s nose, cursing, “You with the surname Wan, watch your mouth!”
Samuel Warren raised his eyebrows, as if about to explode in anger, but then seemed to think of something. His lips trembled twice, but he forced himself not to retort. After a moment of silence, Samuel Warren spoke in a sinister tone: “Edward Walker, no matter how much you curse, this fact won’t change. Hand over your son. Or do you dare defy the Empire’s iron law?”
Edward Walker’s face was filled with rage. This man, who usually seemed so amiable, finally erupted in fury at this moment: “You with the surname Wan, if you want to come at me, then come at me! Why use such a despicable excuse!”
Samuel Warren snorted coldly: “Edward Walker, stop wasting time. Hand over your son, or I’ll have to take him myself!”
Edward Walker’s face was as dark as water. He stared hard at Samuel Warren, his tone icy: “Fine, you with the surname Wan, if you have the guts to take my son today, you’d better watch out when your only son goes out in the future. If something unfortunate happens, there’ll be no one left to bury you!”
Samuel Warren’s expression changed dramatically. He glared at Edward Walker and said, “I heard you once saved the life of a spiritual cultivator. Do you think you can rely on that to ignore the iron law? Are you threatening me?”
Edward Walker stared coldly at Samuel Warren: “Whoever touches my son is my enemy. I don’t care if I lose my life—I’m not afraid of anything!”
