Although it is a low-level technique, there actually aren’t many people who can truly master “Burst.” For ordinary people, using spiritual sense to stimulate a sudden surge of vital energy and blood is an enormous strain on the body, and it’s very hard to withstand.
Moreover, the burst only lasts for a very short time—at most five seconds. Most people can’t really grasp the timing of the burst. On the contrary, they’re more likely to be defeated by the side effects when bursting. And since it’s a low-level technique, once your strength surpasses level seven, this move becomes useless.
Brian Carter felt a rush in his head, as if his whole body was about to be blown apart by the surging energy and blood. Although the sensation in his body was extremely unfamiliar, Brian Carter was already mentally prepared for it.
The surging blood made his eyes bulge slightly, and the world seemed to twist as if he were looking through water. However, the explosive power also made Brian Carter’s senses much sharper. In this state, Brian Carter could see every movement of the lizardman, every tiny scale.
Suppressing the urge to roar, Brian Carter stomped his foot on the edge of the pool. With a bang, the special cement wall cracked with a web of fine lines.
Using the force from that stomp, Brian Carter not only changed his direction but also increased his speed several times over. Before the lizardman’s tail could sweep over, he was already flying above and behind it. With a slight movement of his eyes, Brian Carter had already spotted the slightly darker scale. With a flick of his wrist, the Sifeng Sword stabbed straight at the back of the lizardman’s head.
On the other side, under the intense burning pain, Jason Clark’s focus became razor-sharp. After rolling once, he ended up beneath the lizardman. He quickly braced himself and thrust his sword upward, stabbing diagonally at the lizardman’s lower abdomen. Lizardmen have reproductive systems too; just like humans, this is their most fatal weak spot.
The lizardman opened its mouth slightly, and the stench of its breath almost made Jason Clark faint. This wasn’t an attack, just its way of showing a smile. Unfortunately, the ugly, ferocious lizard head could never display a smile that humans could understand.
Its huge claws suddenly came down, the long, sharp tips like ten razor-sharp blades, grabbing right at the sword’s blade.
Sparks flew as the sword clashed with the claws, but it was no match for the lizardman’s terrifying strength. Jason Clark was about to be crushed by those long claws, and despair flashed in his eyes.
“Pfft…”
From the lizardman’s gaping mouth, a dazzling sword blade over a foot long suddenly stabbed out. Suffering such a heavy blow, the lizardman froze for a moment. Jason Clark, after all, was an experienced warrior; he quickly let go of his sword and rolled to the side.
The lizardman staggered, then its massive body crashed into the pool, sending up a huge splash. Black-red blood slowly spread through the water.
Jason Clark stared in shock at the dead lizardman, then glanced at Brian Carter who had landed on the other side, his mouth moving but not knowing what to say.
Everything before his eyes felt so unreal, like a dream. But the burning pain in his back reminded Jason Clark that this was no dream, and certainly not the time to be in a daze.
“You killed it?” Seeing Brian Carter reach out to pull out his sword, Jason Clark couldn’t help but ask.
Brian Carter’s cheeks were as red as if stained with blood, and his forehead was covered in sweat. The aftereffects of the burst left his limbs weak and numb. Fortunately, he had long since mastered this technique, able to enter and exit the state at will. After that instant burst attack, he immediately withdrew from the state.
It took several hard tugs to pull out the Sifeng Sword. Brian Carter grinned at Jason Clark, “It might not make sense, but that’s what happened.”
To be able to kill a lizardman with one strike—it was, in a way, just good luck. Brian Carter was in a great mood. But these things were really hard to explain, so he could only be vague.
Having dealt with underground races many times, the security team all knew that lizardmen had a nostril at the back of their heads, which was the weakest and most fatal spot on their bodies.
However, this nostril was hidden beneath the scales. Unless you were a particularly experienced veteran, you’d never find it. To stab the lizardman’s nostril at the back of its head in the heat of battle—Jason Clark dared say no one in the base could do it.
Jason Clark didn’t believe Brian Carter’s explanation; this was definitely not just luck. Seeing Brian Carter’s unusually red cheeks, it looked like he had just used the “Burst” technique. But the burst lasted such a short time, which was odd. Besides, the power of the “Burst” was so strong! It made Jason Clark even more uncertain.
A teenager without power armor, killing a lizardman with a single sword strike—this was an unbelievable miracle in itself.
Brian Carter’s smile had an extraordinary calmness, as if he had just stepped on a cockroach.
Jason Clark wanted to ask more, but his wife and daughter, who hadn’t run far, came running back. The flesh on Jason Clark’s back was a bloody mess, making his wife ache with worry. “Jason Clark, hurry and bandage yourself…”
“I’m fine.” Jason Clark also came to his senses; this was not the time to dig for answers. He quickly bowed to Brian Carter and said, “Young man, you saved the lives of all three of us. Words can’t express my gratitude. Jason Clark will remember this forever.”
The fifteen- or sixteen-year-old girl, Alex Clark, hiding in her mother’s arms, was timidly sneaking glances at Brian Carter. She had always thought her father was the strongest man in the world, but now she realized there was someone even more powerful. Especially since this big brother was only a few years older than her, she was all the more curious.
