Chapter 17

From the bottom of his heart, Jason Clark truly admired Brian Carter. Capable, responsible, decisive. Most importantly, he was also very kind. It was precisely because of this kindness that Brian Carter's extraordinary abilities didn't make people feel uneasy.

After leaving the shelter, Jason Clark saw Brian Carter still striking a pose. He couldn't help but laugh—this really was quite amusing.

“How are you? Are you alright…” Jason Clark walked over and asked.

Brian Carter glanced helplessly at Jason Clark, “Do I look alright to you…”

Jason Clark thought for a moment and said, “Let me take you to the shelter to rest. You’ve used your burst skills too much—your muscles and bones can’t take it. You should get some proper rest. I’ll contact the underground security team and request a group of experts to come over and sweep the monsters on the second floor clean…”

Brian Carter shook his head slightly, “The situation on the third floor must be very tense right now; there’s no one to spare. That won’t work.”

Jason Clark frowned, “Then do you have any good ideas?” Having witnessed Brian Carter's extraordinary abilities, Jason Clark no longer saw him as just an ordinary teenager, but was willing to discuss countermeasures with him.

Brian Carter slowly moved his arms, enduring the searing pain of torn muscles, and gradually stood up. If he could, he would rather just squat there. But there really wasn’t much time left.

The most urgent thing now was to find Sophie. As for his uncle, he was on duty. That was the core area of the base, heavily guarded. The few underground monsters there posed no real threat.

“I need to go to Zone B to find a friend,” Brian Carter said.

Jason Clark was a bit disappointed; he thought Brian Carter might have a way to change the situation. Unconsciously, Jason Clark had developed very high expectations for Brian Carter. But at this moment, going to save one’s friends and family was only natural.

Although disappointed, Jason Clark still asked, “Do you need my help?”

Brian Carter sheathed the Sifeng Sword, stuck the other sword into the ground, and while slowly moving his limbs, said, “If you’re willing, that would be great.”

Jason Clark said seriously, “You saved my whole family. No matter what you want to do, I’ll help you.”

Brian Carter smiled, “Big Brother Clark, you don’t have to be so serious. I wouldn’t do anything immoral. Let’s go…”

Because they were in a hurry, Jason Clark found a convertible electric car. These cars usually circled the streets, specifically for transporting people. They were part of the base’s public transportation system.

Jason Clark had a high enough clearance to temporarily start the electric car. He took Brian Carter and sped all the way toward Zone B.

The streets were deserted. Although there weren’t many invading monsters, they had frightened everyone. Most people were now hiding at home, afraid to go out.

Brian Carter remembered that the monster army only broke into the second level of the base at around five in the morning. It was now 2:55 a.m. He still had two hours.

Even with memories of the future, Brian Carter wasn’t very confident about saving the base. The appearance of lizardmen and shadow wolves meant the situation was close to spiraling out of control.

Most importantly, the quantum communication optical network had been cut off, destroying the base’s communications. That move was fatal!

The problem was, with the intelligence of the underground races, how could they have figured out that the quantum optical network was the key? And how did they manage to sabotage the tightly secured quantum network mainframe?

On the surface, it looked like a counterattack by the underground races. But Brian Carter believed there had to be deeper reasons behind it.

In his memories of the future, Brian Carter had only survived the disaster by sheer luck. He had no idea what had happened. Even after he became the Sirius King, he never realized there was anything wrong with the base incident.

When Brian Carter returned again and was able to look at the big picture, he discovered there were many problems behind the destruction of the base.

So many problems appearing at once couldn’t be a coincidence—it could only be a conspiracy.

“Conspiracy…” Brian Carter mulled over the word. On the road to becoming the Sirius King, he had seen too many conspiracies.

A conspiracy, after all, is something that can’t see the light of day. As long as you can grasp the thread, you can break it.

Looking ahead, an incomparably determined light shone in Brian Carter’s eyes.

Chapter 8: The Heavenly Dragon Project

Zone B was the residential area for the base’s upper echelons, filled with independent three-story villa-style buildings. The architectural styles included the traditional Chinese style of the Bright Empire, the magical and cold style of the Titan Empire, and the exquisite and luxurious style of the Odin Empire.

The opulence inside left everyone who visited in awe.

Zone B also had the highest security of any residential area. The entire neighborhood was sealed off by an invisible electric grid. At the only entrance, a squad of J900 fully intelligent security robots stood guard 24/7.

Inside the neighborhood, tens of thousands of scanners were installed. Any unauthorized creature—even a fly—couldn’t possibly sneak in unnoticed.

When Jason Clark heard that Brian Carter wanted to enter Zone B, he told him about the strict security measures there. Although Jason Clark wasn’t qualified to live in Zone B, as the deputy captain of the security team, he was very familiar with its security situation.

Brian Carter frowned slightly. He had followed Sophie inside twice before, but hadn’t realized the security was so tight. This level of security far exceeded normal needs.

“Could there be some big shot inside?” Brian Carter wondered to himself. But no matter what dangers were inside, he had to find Sophie.
