"Very good." Charles Wood clapped his hands and said, "Since we had an agreement beforehand, we will honor our bet, and everyone present here is a witness. However, before the results come out, you can come with me back to Class Five's classroom and take the exam together with your classmates."
Watching the backs of Charles Wood and Olivia Bolton disappear at the end of the corridor, William Carter sighed. It seemed that the task assigned by President Shen was not so easy to accomplish after all!
He didn't have much faith that Olivia Bolton could make a comeback. After all, he used to be a student with intellectual disabilities and had fallen behind by more than two years in his studies.
"We'll see after the exam results come out! I'll think of a way to squeeze him into another class then," William Carter thought to himself. "If it really doesn't work, I'll just use the principal's authority to force it through. I can't let Chairman Shen be disappointed in me."
Charles Wood stood on the podium, a cold smile appearing at the corner of his mouth. Looking at the students below, he said, "Classmates, let me introduce a new student to you. This new student is definitely not a stranger to you all... He is Olivia Bolton, once the 'genius' student famous throughout the school. Olivia Bolton, do you all still remember him?"
"Boom..."
After a long silence, the classroom suddenly erupted.
"It's really that idiot Olivia Bolton... Didn't he disappear? How did he come back?"
"He looks a bit different from before..."
"Yeah... Even more of a bumpkin than two years ago. Look at his pants, and his clothes..."
...
The students of Class Five chattered noisily, mocking and ridiculing, having long abandoned the innocence that should belong to youth, using the most malicious words they could think of to attack Olivia Bolton.
"What's wrong with you all! Did Olivia ever bother you? What right do you have to talk about him like that?" an angry shout came from the back row.
Standing at the classroom door, Olivia Bolton looked inside, his expression freezing for a moment.
Robert Dale!
His once best friend, and also his only friend, Robert Dale.
Robert Dale was Olivia Bolton's deskmate, and just like their close relationship, their grades were also very similar.
One was the last in the class, the other was second to last.
Just as no one cared about Olivia Bolton, no one cared about this bottom-of-the-class slacker either. Ever since Olivia Bolton dropped out, Robert Dale had been the undisputed last place. For two years, his performance had been exceptionally stable, never letting anyone else take his spot.
Who would care about the anger of a slacker?
A mocking smile hung on Olivia Bolton's lips. The malice this world had for him was nothing new. Attacks of this level—what did they matter?
Soon, they would understand who the real idiot was.
"Olivia Bolton, go back to your seat. The exam is about to start," Charles Wood said with a poker face.
Olivia Bolton put his hands in his pockets and strolled to the back row, sitting down next to Robert Dale.
This had always been his seat. Besides him, no one wanted to sit with Robert Dale, and likewise, besides Robert Dale, no one wanted to sit with him.
Chapter 11: You're Cheating!
"Olivia Bolton, is it really you?" Robert Dale looked at Olivia Bolton with excitement all over his face, grabbing Olivia Bolton's arm.
"It's me, Adam. Long time no see." Olivia Bolton looked at Robert Dale with warmth in his eyes.
"Olivia, where have you been these past two years? Why didn't you contact me?" Robert Dale blinked his small eyes, leaning in enthusiastically.
"Treatment, recovery," Olivia Bolton smiled. "I couldn't just muddle through life forever, could I?"
"That's true. Don't take what those guys say to heart. They're just a bunch of jerks who look down on others, but you should be used to it by now." Robert Dale waved his hand as if to brush away all his troubles. "So, are you healthy now?"
"What do you think?" Olivia Bolton asked with a smile.
"I think you're normal now. Before, when I talked to you, you just grinned foolishly. Now you even know how to talk back," Robert Dale giggled.
"Hahaha, let's get ready for the exam!" Olivia Bolton laughed.
At the mention of the exam, Robert Dale immediately wilted like an eggplant hit by frost.
"What's wrong?" Sensing Robert Dale's dejection, Olivia Bolton couldn't help teasing him.
"Don't mention it. Ever since I was a kid, exams have been my biggest headache... a big test every three days, a small test every two days—what the hell are we even testing for? They're about to turn us into roast ducks," Robert Dale couldn't help complaining.
Olivia Bolton said calmly, "Why are you so scared of something so simple?"
"Sigh, top students will never understand the sorrow of a slacker," Robert Dale gazed out the window, looking as melancholy as Xu Zhimo after a breakup.
He suddenly realized something was off, turned back in surprise, and said, "Simple? Your grades are even worse than mine, and you still have the nerve to act cool..."
Olivia Bolton just smiled without saying a word.
