Chapter 5

“It's... it's nothing.” Being pulled like that, Gavin Dawson finally snapped out of it, hurriedly waved his hand, and apologized to Lily Harris. Then, his gaze was once again drawn to a silver BMW business car speeding toward the entrance of the Second Hospital ahead. He saw several orderlies carrying a stretcher rush to the BMW, and soon someone lifted an elderly man out of the car.

“I’m really fine now. Actually, this whole thing isn’t your fault at all. I’m already very grateful that you brought me to the hospital. Once I find a job and get my salary, I’ll definitely pay you back for this hospital stay.” Gavin Dawson explained to Lily Harris as he walked forward.

“No need, you only got hurt yesterday because you were helping me, so of course I have to take responsibility. Don’t worry, even though I don’t have much money right now, in the future, whenever you have an episode, I’ll definitely...” Lily Harris hurriedly waved her hand as well, but as she spoke, she realized that Gavin Dawson's attention wasn’t on her at all. She immediately followed his gaze forward.

Then, she saw the elderly man on the stretcher, who was almost in front of them, suddenly tilt his head, his hands slackening, and he completely slipped off the stretcher.

“Ah...” Seeing this, Lily Harris was startled, covering her lips with her hand. Dead?

“Dead?” The shock Gavin Dawson felt was far greater than Lily Harris's, because he clearly saw the numbers outside the old man’s body. The moment the old man’s hands dropped, his vital energy value jumped from -0.9 to -1. But that -1 only lingered in the air for a few seconds before it completely vanished.

A vital energy of zero means normal, healthy. -1 means death. Other conditions, like a cold, disability, or being critically ill, range from -0.1 to -0.9?

This whole experience was truly far beyond anything Gavin Dawson could have imagined.

“Everyone has a value, so what about me?” Suddenly, a strange thought popped up. Gavin Dawson quickly focused his attention on his own chest, and immediately saw the same kind of characters floating there: Spirit, 0; Vital energy, 0.

It was zero, not negative. Seeing this, Gavin Dawson felt a huge sense of relief—he wasn’t sick, but had actually gained a very strange ability.

“Haha... ha...”

With a long sigh of relief, Gavin Dawson suddenly burst out laughing. He laughed so hard that he startled Lily Harris, and only then did he excitedly grab Lily Harris in a hug, cheering, “Haha, I’m not sick! I’m really not sick anymore!! This is great!”

“Ah...” Lily Harris was first startled by the sudden hug, then her face lit up with joy and she said excitedly, “You mean, you really can’t see those things anymore? That’s wonderful!”

Lily Harris wasn’t stupid. Although Gavin Dawson had said before that he couldn’t see them anymore, his behavior and actions had clearly shown otherwise. It wasn’t until now, seeing Gavin Dawson's sudden cheer, that she finally believed he really couldn’t see them. At this moment, she felt as if the cloud that had been weighing on her heart suddenly vanished, leaving her feeling indescribably light and free.

“Haha...” Gavin Dawson didn’t answer her, just kept laughing. In the midst of his enthusiastic hug, a shadow suddenly swept toward his face. Before he could react, Gavin Dawson felt his entire face buried in two full, resilient, and softly fragrant mounds beneath her clothes.

Not only that, but through the thin summer shirt, Gavin Dawson could clearly feel the smooth, warm skin beneath his hands and arms.

After all, it was summer, and with the weather approaching August, no one would be wearing much.

“This is great, you’re finally better...” Lily Harris still didn’t seem to notice how closely they were embracing. She just wrapped her arms around Gavin Dawson's neck, cheering again and again. She was free—she finally didn’t have to feel guilty about that matter, at least for now!

Overjoyed, Lily Harris even wanted to jump for joy. But as she instinctively bounced on her feet, she suddenly froze. Why weren’t her feet on the ground? And why was there a face pressed tightly against her chest?

The next moment, the cheers came to an abrupt halt, and the two tightly embracing bodies instantly stiffened.

“Let go of me, let go!” Finally, Lily Harris was the first to react, blushing furiously as she scolded in a low voice. She almost fled as she forcefully pushed Gavin Dawson away, and as soon as her feet touched the ground, she ran straight out of the Second Hospital.

“Ahem.” Gavin Dawson looked awkwardly at her retreating figure, his own face gradually turning red. In all his years, this seemed to be the first time he’d had such close contact with a girl—and she was a beauty, too. He had to admit, the feeling was really quite tempting...

It seemed that even now, the warmth, fragrance, and that soft, elastic sensation of her body still lingered on his nose, cheeks, and hands. It really was a wonderful, wonderful feeling.

Rubbing his hands as if savoring the memory, Gavin Dawson walked out of the hospital, both embarrassed and dazed.
