“Look at the new puzzle I made.”
Raymond Brooks saw that the hastily made Huarong Dao puzzle had been completely redone by the dark elf, turning it into a beautiful work of art. Each piece was carved with an exquisite relief portrait. However, Cao Cao’s face looked unusually handsome, and Guan Yu, who usually stands with his blade, now had two curved ram’s horns, looking exactly like a scythe demon. The others, like Zhao Yun and Ma Chao, had also changed faces, making it clearly a demon realm version of Huarong Dao.
Through his recent conversations with Albert Harris and Stanley Reed, Raymond Brooks had learned more about the common knowledge of the demon realm. The city he was in, Darkmoon City, was a territory of the Fallen Angel Empire, and its lord was Princess Sarah Foster, the elder sister of Alice.
The common demon races in the demon realm include scythe demons, succubi, horned demons, imp demons, and minor fiends.
Each of these demon races has its own characteristics:
Scythe demons, also known as greater demons, are the highest-ranking demons apart from the royal family. They are born as powerful warriors, skilled in all kinds of weapons, and can freely choose to cultivate either the mind or strength, or even both. Some greater demons with mutated bloodlines can gain even more powerful abilities. The normal upper limit for greater demons is high-rank demon, but mutants can break through this bottleneck to reach an even higher level.
Horned demons are strong and brave, the best vanguard for charging into battle, and some can even become skilled blacksmiths. Their normal upper limit is mid-rank demon.
Imp demons are physically weak but possess strong magical power. Some gifted individuals can control magical beasts. Their normal upper limit is mid-rank demon.
Succubi are a purely female demon race, focused on the mind, with a natural talent for enchantment and soul-capturing. The chance of giving birth to a girl is extremely high, and if it is a girl, she will definitely be a succubus. Their normal upper limit is mid-rank demon.
As for minor fiends like Lord Stanley Reed, they are the lowest class of demons, mostly used as cannon fodder on the battlefield. High-level minor fiends have the ability to create illusions to confuse people, and a very rare few mutants can be promoted to scythe demons.
Dark elves and dark goblins are vassal races, but are also indispensable in the demon family: dark elves are skilled in stealth, assassination, and poison, but someone like Albert Harris, who has become a master in alchemy, is a rare exception. A few dark elves have outstanding magical talent and can become evil sorcerers even stronger than imp demons.
Dark goblins, though short and ugly with little combat ability, are incredibly creative, excelling at craftsmanship and invention. Some exceptional individuals even become master alchemists.
Because the twin moons of the demon realm possess special powers, there is no such thing as mixed blood among the races of the demon realm. Even if two different races mate, their offspring will randomly belong to either the father’s or the mother’s race.
Besides this, there are many other powerful creatures in the demon realm, such as elementals, evil eyes, exiled fallen dragons, and many magical beasts, making it a place full of danger.
Compared to humans, demons start off much stronger, but their potential for growth is much smaller. For humans, regardless of talent, everyone starts at about the same level after birth. For demons, the difference in rank is obvious from birth, and after reaching adulthood, they can only reach a certain upper limit, making it very difficult to advance further.
In other words, demons start at a higher level than humans and live longer, but are much less adaptable. The higher the rank of the demon, the greater the potential for advancement.
Sarah and Alice belong to the royal family of demons. Generally speaking, the royal family, like the top human powerhouses, possesses unlimited potential and exerts a natural pressure on ordinary demons in battle. Their greatest strength lies in the special abilities within their bloodline, which can unleash terrifying power.
Perhaps out of reverence for the royal family, Albert Harris and Stanley Reed have not revealed much about the two princesses or the Fallen Angel Empire.
“These character designs aren’t very good. The mighty figures of the primordial era didn’t look like this… Even beautification and embellishment should stay true to history.” Raymond Brooks bluntly criticized the demon realm version of the Huarong Dao’s character designs, not realizing that both history and the original story had already been thoroughly altered by himself. Just the existence of that Grandmaster Sun Wukong would be enough to make Wu Cheng’en weep in his grave.
Albert Harris accepted the criticism and smiled sheepishly. “I just got carried away for a moment. Next time, I’ll make a set according to your instructions. This time, I cleared it in 209 moves, which is much better than last time.”
Raymond Brooks shook his head gently and sighed, “Still not enough. Grandmaster Wukong only used 81 moves back then, and according to his calculations, it could be done in even fewer.”
Albert Harris knew that every move saved required precise calculation. The first time he solved the Huarong Dao, he was so overjoyed that he didn’t even remember how many moves it took. The second time, it was over 300 moves. When he saw Raymond Brooks solve it in just over 100 moves, he had to admit defeat. As for Grandmaster Wukong’s record, he could only look up in awe.
“In fact, ‘Standing with Blade’ is just one arrangement of the Huarong Dao. There are several others. Huarong Dao was just a little pastime Grandmaster used for deduction back in the day. Don’t get too obsessed with it.”
Right now, Albert Harris was completely obsessed with Huarong Dao. Raymond Brooks said this on purpose, clearly using reverse psychology. Sure enough, the dark elf shook his head repeatedly. “A grandmaster is a grandmaster. What’s just a little pastime to him is of immense research value to us.”
