Chapter 20

The power, simultaneously corroded by poison, caused Anna Morgan to collapse to the ground. Her demonic form and life flame gradually faded, returning her to human form. If the poison dragon hadn’t deliberately left her as food, she would probably have become nothing but a pile of bones.

“Did you see that? Human, you have only two choices: obey, or die!” Patrick Hill sneered. “Now, Lord Patrick Hill will eat that little girl first. Go do it immediately!”

Raymond Brooks finally made up his mind, shaking his head resolutely. “Impossible!”

If Alice really died here, that princess Sarah would surely mobilize all the power of her territory for revenge. By then, the poison dragon would just leave, and he would be the one to suffer a thousand cuts. Besides, he couldn’t bear to watch the three little girls be devoured by the vicious poison dragon.

Cowering in the corner would only mean death. Taking a desperate gamble might offer a slim chance at survival. Ever since that damned transmigration, he had been ready to risk it all!

Anna Morgan looked at Raymond Brooks in surprise. She hadn’t expected that the human Alice called cowardly and afraid of death would show such courage in the face of the terrifying poison dragon. Just this alone made him far better than Allen!

“You weak human, how dare you refuse Lord Patrick Hill’s kindness!” The poison dragon’s eyes flashed with ferocity. The iron skewer in his hand suddenly withered and decayed, turning into green smoke and vanishing. “I’ll eat you first, then your women!”

“Wait!” Raymond Brooks didn’t bother to explain the innocence of Alice and the others. At the brink of life and death, he became calm instead. “Aren’t you a poison dragon? Let’s make a bet! If you can poison me, I’ll submit to you. If you can’t, you let us go.”

“A bet?” Patrick Hill squinted at Raymond Brooks. Raymond Brooks felt the super system’s activation progress, which had been slowing, start to rise again—82.6%, 83.1%...

“Hmph! Your lives are all in my hands. I won’t play such a boring game with you.” This poison dragon was quite cunning. As he spoke, he tried to poison them, but after confirming it was ineffective, he rejected Raymond Brooks’s proposal. “You’re just an ant—I could crush you with a finger.”

Raymond Brooks cursed this guy’s treachery inwardly and immediately changed the subject, pointing at Alice lying behind Anna Morgan: “This little girl is the little princess Alice Foster of the Fallen Angel Empire. If you dare harm her, you’ll face the wrath of the entire Fallen Angel Empire.”

“The Lucifer family, the Fallen Angel Empire?” Patrick Hill sneered. “So what? Don’t underestimate Lord Patrick Hill’s power. Even if Scott Foster were still alive, he could only fight me to a draw!”

Scott Foster was the emperor of the Fallen Angel Empire two generations ago, incredibly powerful, known as the Wings of the Demon God.

Raymond Brooks continued to probe: “Don’t boast. Since you’ve awakened, why are you still stuck in this godforsaken place, asleep for thousands of years and short on food? Those chain-like symbols on your body must be some kind of seal, right? I heard that four hundred years ago, the strongest in the demon realm, The Emperor, once used the Lock of Light and Darkness to seal you…”

The poison dragon frowned. “Lock of Light and Darkness? No wonder…”

Seeing the poison dragon hesitate, Raymond Brooks boldly added, “Let me guess, is your power sealed? Or your movement? Or both? If your power wasn’t weakened, of course no one would dare provoke you. But if word gets out that you’re sealed, I bet many would come here to try their hand at slaying a dragon.”

Patrick Hill’s expression changed, and he roared angrily, “Damn human, you dare threaten Lord Patrick Hill! I’ll poison you into a pile of ashes!”

Raymond Brooks could tell Patrick Hill was all bark and no bite, and, realizing he’d hit a sore spot, gradually calmed down. “You should know, I’m not afraid of your poison at all. If the power inside me awakens…”

Before Raymond Brooks could bluff about some grandmaster, Patrick Hill suddenly looked utterly shocked and shouted, “Wait! Human, you… what did you just say is on me? Symbols? Chains?”

“Yes,” Raymond Brooks pointed at the faintly glowing symbols on Patrick Hill’s body. “They even move, circling around like chains.”

Patrick Hill became extremely agitated. “What do the symbols look like? What do they mean?”

Raymond Brooks shook his head and asked Anna Morgan, “Anna Morgan, look, are these the special characters of the Lock of Light and Darkness? I can’t read them.”

“What symbols? I can’t see anything.” Anna Morgan widened her eyes in confusion. In her view, there was nothing on Patrick Hill like what Raymond Brooks described.

How could she not see something so obvious? Raymond Brooks found it strange and imitated a few of the symbols, drawing them on the ground with the iron skewer. “These symbols—aren’t they the Lock of Light and Darkness?”

Patrick Hill, who had been doubtful, lost all suspicion when he saw what Raymond Brooks drew, and cried out excitedly, “The Lock of Light and Darkness is nothing! This is Ancient Rune Script! It really is this!”

Ancient Rune Script! So the poison dragon had another seal on him, and it was the most powerful kind!

Patrick Hill clenched his fists tightly, then suddenly grew anxious, muttering to himself, “Only that woman understands Ancient Rune Script. If I’d known, I never should have back then…”
