Tony Stark instinctively still didn’t want to believe in the so-called prophecy; he was more inclined to think that Brian Carter had heard about this matter from someone around him.
“All the information we’ve found about him so far shows that he’s a model of a typical Chinese youth’s upbringing: smart, good grades, self-disciplined, hardworking, and ambitious. He’s had no contact with any gangs, and before he became independent from his family, he lived in a high-end villa district. So far, we haven’t found anyone in his network capable of planning a kidnapping!” JARVIS said.
“Smart, good grades, self-disciplined, ambitious—this fits our stereotype of Chinese people perfectly!” Tony Stark muttered to himself. “Doesn’t sound all that special, does it?”
“If there’s anything unusual, it’s probably that about a month ago, he was in a car accident and miraculously survived…” JARVIS said. “Other than that, his life trajectory is very ordinary!”
“A car accident? Awakened superpowers?” The thought flashed through Tony Stark’s mind, but he still felt it was too absurd.
Especially when it came to the prophecy part—if it was just a prediction that he’d be kidnapped in Afghanistan, maybe it was just some information obtained in advance, like learning about the board’s decision ahead of time. But to actually dare to predict that he would shut down Stark Industries’ weapons division?
That was just outrageous!
The weapons division was the main cash cow of Stark Industries. The other divisions had their achievements, but honestly, at least eighty percent of the stock price was supported by the weapons division.
This had been the case since his father’s time; the Stark family had been running this business for decades.
Unless he went insane, how could he possibly give it up?
And he also had to consider the shareholders’ opinions. His family might hold the majority, but the combined power of the other shareholders was still not to be underestimated.
In America, it wasn’t unheard of for founders to be kicked out by the board—in fact, it happened quite often.
So there was no way he’d do something so ridiculous.
But even if, for argument’s sake, he really did dissolve the weapons division and gave up the arms business, then Stark Industries’ stock price could indeed plummet.
But that would require him to make such an outrageous decision in the first place.
So what made this Brian Carter so certain, as if he was sure Tony Stark would make that decision?
Or was it that, during the kidnapping, he promised someone something?
Was that the price for being rescued?
For a moment, Tony Stark’s mind was a complete mess. “Sir, in that case, why not just go and ask him directly?” JARVIS asked at this moment.
“Because the moment I have that thought, I immediately get a splitting headache, as if an extremely terrifying will is warning me not to have any contact with this Brian Carter!” Tony Stark sighed.
Given his temperament, if he could just go straight to the door, he would have done so already.
“And what if he doesn’t actually have any prophetic abilities, and just happened to know some information? Wouldn’t that just alert him for nothing?” Tony Stark said.
The key was, he still felt that the warning from that will might be even more serious than he imagined. He felt that if he really did go to confront him, he probably wouldn’t even have time to speak before he died on the spot.
He was a dignified super-capitalist, one of the elite at the very top of the world, one of the masters of this world—he wasn’t about to die over something like this.
He could live without knowing the truth, but he couldn’t die—he hadn’t had enough fun yet.
“Keep an eye on this Brian Carter for now!” Tony Stark said.
“Sir, this Brian Carter has started writing in his diary again!” JARVIS suddenly reminded him.
Sure enough, words began to appear out of thin air in the diary on the desk.
Tony Stark was a bit speechless—it was broad daylight outside.
Who writes a diary in the middle of the day?
Who writes their true feelings in a diary, anyway? And besides, who writes a diary during the day instead of at night?
After observing for the past few days, he’d noticed that Brian Carter’s diary writing had no pattern at all. Sometimes JARVIS would wake him up in the middle of the night to read the diary.
Sometimes, early in the morning, just after he’d finished with a model and barely fallen asleep, he’d be called up again—it made him grit his teeth in frustration.
And now, writing a diary in broad daylight.
[May 7th, weather: clear
Just passed by a neighborhood in New York, said to be the street where Hulk and Abomination fought a few years ago. Even now, the repairs aren’t fully done. These Americans really are inefficient, but considering how their firefighters rushed fearlessly into danger during 9/11, only to end up not even getting their compensation, the world of capitalists is truly cold and ruthless!]
Reading this, Tony Stark frowned. Why did it feel like he’d heard that name somewhere before?
“This Hulk or whatever, and what’s this Abomination thing? Their fight could affect an entire street? Did they use heavy weapons or something?” Tony Stark couldn’t help but say.
