Chapter 14

“Sir, Obadiah Stane’s phone records have been fully reviewed. There’s an unknown number—a satellite phone. The signal shows it’s in Afghanistan...” JARVIS responded quickly, immediately uncovering some information.

Tony Stark’s gaze turned a bit cold. It wasn’t surprising that the user of the satellite phone couldn’t be traced right away—this was a common tactic among many criminals.

But Obadiah Stane’s circle of friends should all be prominent figures with names and reputations. Who would use a satellite phone that completely conceals their identity?

In other words, if his suspicion of Obadiah Stane had only been one percent before, now it had instantly risen to over fifty percent.

He really did have dealings with people in Afghanistan!

“Investigate everything about Obadiah Stane, as well as all the documents he’s approved in the company over the years, the deals he’s overseen, his circle of friends, the people he knows, his network—summarize everything in a report and get it to me as soon as possible!” Tony Stark issued a flurry of orders in one breath.

Fortunately, with JARVIS, an AI with nearly limitless computing power, otherwise he’d probably need to hire an entire team to handle this.

With JARVIS, Tony Stark essentially had a large team at his side at all times.

After saying all this, Tony Stark collapsed into his chair, as if all the strength had been drained from his body. Although his rational mind had prompted him to take immediate action and launch an investigation into Obadiah Stane, emotionally, he still couldn’t accept it.

This was still a huge blow to him!

“Let’s hope not!” Tony Stark finally muttered to himself.

He knew he needed to start taking his own safety seriously, because if someone really was targeting him, then he was no longer safe.

Suddenly, at that moment, Tony Stark noticed that a new video had appeared at the bottom of the diary—something that had never happened before. This diary was truly mysterious.

He couldn’t help but click on the video to watch.

The title of the video was displayed prominently.

Seeing this title, Tony Stark didn’t quite understand, but he immediately began to watch immersively. What shocked him was that the person who appeared on screen was none other than himself.

In the footage, he was answering a call from Pepper Pepper Potts. He was stunned—had someone secretly recorded him in his own home?

But before he could think further, the next second, he heard a piercing sound, and his eyes widened in shock, nearly passing out.

At this moment, the person behind Tony Stark also appeared on screen.

“Breathe, relax, relax!” This voice was one Tony Stark would never forget, even in death. He knew it all too well—it was his uncle, Obadiah Stane.

After knocking Tony Stark down, Obadiah Stane calmly began to explain to him.

“You remember this thing, right? It’s a pity it never got government approval. It can cause temporary paralysis—sometimes, it’s really very useful!” Obadiah Stane said coolly, holding the weapon in his hand. “Tony, when I gave the order to have you eliminated, I did have my concerns. You’re the goose that lays the golden eggs. But look at fate—it let you escape. This is your last golden egg. Do you really think the ideas you come up with are truly yours? Your father helped me build the atomic bomb. If he’d been as selfish as you, what would the world be like now?” As Obadiah Stane spoke, he pulled the arc reactor from Tony Stark’s chest, and at that moment, Tony Stark could do nothing but watch helplessly as Obadiah Stane took it away.

“Take a good look, Tony. This is your swan song, your final legacy. Now we can call it the core of a new generation of weapons. With it, we can firmly control the whole world. No doubt about it. I hope you get to see my prototype. Don’t laugh—it’s not as stingy as you. It’s a shame you dragged Pepper Potts into this too. I was actually planning to spare her!” Obadiah Stane said as he took the arc reactor away.

Watching this scene, the real Tony Stark was horrified. Before, he was only fifty percent suspicious, but after seeing this footage, he was almost one hundred percent certain—it really was Obadiah Stane.

What he found even harder to believe was that his kindly Uncle Obadiah Stane had actually planned to get rid of him.

Clearly, this footage must have been from after he was kidnapped in Afghanistan and had returned.

It just didn’t show how he was kidnapped, but some details were already clear.

“JARVIS, revoke all of Obadiah Stane’s access to the room!” Tony Stark said almost immediately.

The reason Obadiah Stane was able to sneak in so quietly wasn’t because his hacking skills were so advanced, but simply because he relied on Tony Stark’s trust.
