Chapter 6

"What's the use of you." James Carter was quite disappointed; every boy has a dream of being an immortal hero.

"James Carter, born in 1995, average physique, average intelligence, average grades, has lived an ordinary life from childhood to now. According to your current life trajectory, your sister Baby Carter will be the most beautiful woman you ever meet, and you will live a mediocre life. But I can change your life, change your destiny, so I think I am still useful."

"After hearing you say that, I kind of want to die." James Carter covered his face. "So what use do you have?"

"Next is the newbie tutorial. Please open the system interface."

"How do I open it? At least give me a controller or something. Am I supposed to just shout at the sky: system interface, and it'll pop up?" As soon as James Carter finished speaking, a glowing blue virtual interface popped up in front of him, reminding him of the 3D projections he'd seen online.

In the upper left corner of the virtual interface were the characters "James Carter", and below that, two options: Tasks, Points Mall!

James Carter reached out and tapped "Tasks." The virtual interface displayed the task details: Main Task—Help Baby Carter sign a contract with Xingyi Entertainment Co., Ltd. Success rewards 300 points, failure deducts 100 points.

He tapped Points Mall, but a prompt popped up: This function is not yet available!

"System, what's in the Points Mall?"

"Things that can help you reach the pinnacle of life."

"Is it not available because I currently have zero points?"

"Yes, please work hard, Host."

"I want to ask, what the heck is this task?"

"The task is not a ghost, but I can roughly understand what the host means. There's no such thing as a free lunch in this world. If you want something, you have to work for it. If you want to exchange for things in the Points Mall, you have to keep doing tasks."

"What are the conditions for tasks to appear? Don't tell me to kill, set fires, or molest little girls or anything like that."

"The conditions for tasks are determined by the host's current state, the people and events around you, and also by the desires in your heart."

"So if I want to molest little girls, is it possible for a task like that to appear?"

"Yes."

"That's enough." James Carter's mouth twitched. Who doesn't have a bit of a dark side?

"If you encounter such tasks, the host can choose to give up. The system will automatically deduct points."

"Hey, there's a task item here?" James Carter noticed at the end of the task details, there was a line of gray text: "Task Item."

"This is an auxiliary item for the first task. The activation process has not yet been reached. Please be patient, Host."

At this moment, Baby Carter turned to look at him, curiously asking, "What are you waving your hands and feet for?"

"My brain's fried, okay?" James Carter said, casually closing the system interface.

Baby Carter snorted, looked straight ahead, and focused on driving. James Carter just stared blankly at his sister's profile—her pretty nose, slender lips, and slightly upturned chin reminded him of Greek sculptures. They didn't look alike at all. Baby Carter had been praised as beautiful and cute by relatives since she was little, and unsurprisingly grew up to be a great beauty. In kindergarten, she was the class flower; after starting school, she was the school beauty. The love letters she received could last James Carter ten years as toilet paper. As for James Carter, he was much more ordinary—decent features, at best a little handsome. He'd seen photos of his father when he was young—could only be called good-looking. His mother was just delicate and pretty. The two of them together had a daughter and passed all the good genes to the eldest. When it came to James Carter, it was just average.

It made no sense at all; it didn't fit genetics. James Carter always suspected his sister was "someone else's child." Otherwise, how could she be so outstanding?

It's always "someone else's child" who's excellent, right?

Chapter Four: Interview

Xingyi Entertainment Company is one of the top ten entertainment companies in the mainland, with countless signed artists, quite a few A-list stars, and strong capital. The entire office building is owned by Xingyi.

Baby Carter drove around the hexagonal building once. The building was 30 stories tall, and the glass curtain walls reflected the blinding sunlight. They found a parking spot in a shady alley behind the building. The little BMW slid into a perfect arc and parked steadily. Baby Carter had gotten her driver's license in high school and had five or six years of driving experience. Unlike most students who lock their licenses away as souvenirs after getting them, she would drive her dad's car during winter and summer breaks, even on weekends, taking James Carter out for drives. They'd go wherever they ended up, then scam James Carter out of his living expenses, sit down in the afternoon sun for coffee and snacks. At those times, James Carter always felt uncomfortable—there were always passersby attracted by Baby Carter's beauty, sneaking glances, like they were watching a giant panda.

Before getting out of the car, James Carter checked the time: 9:30. They'd been driving for a full hour. The task ended at 11:30, so he still had two hours.

It was rush hour. In front of Xingyi Entertainment's office building, men in suits and women dressed fashionably were coming and going. Anyone who could work in this building was a white-collar or even gold-collar worker—a high-income urbanite. Baby Carter was unfazed, her high heels clicking confidently. James Carter, on the other hand, was a bit nervous. He was still a college student and had never been exposed to this kind of environment or crowd.
