Chapter 19

There was only one night left before the week-long deadline for the private detective. As Julia Walker continued riding her electric scooter back to her hotel, just as she was about to say goodbye to Little Brian—

A few figures suddenly burst out of a van parked by the roadside, waving knives and clubs as they charged over.

“Hey punk, you dare cause trouble?!”

“You bastard, you’re dead tonight!”

…………

Before Julia Walker could even cry out in surprise, Brian Carter had already stepped forward with Bajiquan footwork, charging at the five-man group. He dodged the swinging knives and clubs, his fists like meteors and his legs whipping out like a giant python, each strike accompanied by a sharp whooshing sound, like a drill boring into ice.

He beat them as if hanging up a painting, each blow followed by screams and shrieks.

The five ambushers collapsed even faster than they had attacked!

Chapter 13: I Really Am Too Kind

The five ambushers started crying out in pain as they fell, and only then did Julia Walker walk over in amazement. “So you can fight like this? That’s incredible.”

Brian Carter looked excitedly at the people on the ground, rubbing his hands together. “What comes next isn’t suitable for children. I’ll take them to wake them up a bit. See you next time.”

With that, Little Brian began dragging and kicking the five onto the van parked by the roadside.

A six-seater van—truly the world’s most common tool for gathering a crew.

Julia Walker said in surprise, “You’re not letting me watch?”

Brian Carter shook his head. “It’s not convenient for you to see.”

………………

In an old building in Causeway Bay—not the rental above Eric Bennett’s place on Russell Street.

Having already prepared himself mentally for a business showdown with the notorious playboy James Bennett, Brian Carter had rented a new place just for these days.

In the spacious thousand-square-foot “luxury apartment” living room, the five thugs, their mouths stuffed, were rolling on the floor begging for mercy after receiving a full set of bone-crushing treatment.

They couldn’t shout with their mouths full, but they could still kowtow!

Brian Carter calmly drank a cup of tea before going over to help reset their bones and tendons. Master-level Bajiquan combined with master-level traditional Chinese medicine skills produced a result far greater than the sum of its parts.

Just like how master-level culinary skills come with incredible knife techniques.

A kitchen knife is still a knife!

After another cup of tea, seeing the five lying on the ground, doubting life but grateful to have survived, Little Brian knocked on the table. “All awake? Do you understand your situation now?”

A flashy guy with a few streaks of blond hair immediately sat up and kowtowed to Brian Carter again. “Bro, boss, we were wrong, we shouldn’t have messed with you. Please forgive us, boss.”

The others were about the same, all scrambling to beg for mercy and admit fault.

Brian Carter put down his teacup and smiled. “I can let you go, but since you ambushed me for no reason, I need a little token of loyalty before I can feel safe letting you leave.”

“Do you know what a token of loyalty is?”

The blond guy grinned awkwardly. “Boss, just tell us what to do. If we can do it, we’ll do it.”

Brian Carter laughed. “Don’t worry, I’ll only give you something you can handle. Now, tell me your name, who your boss is, which gang you’re with, and what your goal was in attacking me tonight?”

The blond guy nodded quickly. “Boss, my name is William, I’m with the Shun Yi Society. Our leader is Grandpa Ethan, who started out carrying cargo at the docks decades ago and single-handedly built up the Shun Yi Society.”

“My big brother is Grandpa Ethan’s trusted man, Mr. Vulture. We got orders from Mr. Vulture to wait here and beat you up, then have you sell the Sheung Shui parking lot for 100,000.”

Little Brian couldn’t help but exclaim, “Are you sure? You want me to sell the Sheung Shui parking lot for 100,000?”

William nodded frantically. “Yes, exactly 100,000!”

The other four thugs nodded in agreement, all confirming it.

Brian Carter took a sip of tea and sneered. “Didn’t expect James Bennett to have such a small vision. Or maybe it’s just you gangsters trying to skim something off the top.”

In the original timeline, Eric Bennett bought the Sheung Shui parking lot, made a big show in the papers about building a charity Buddhist hall, and the next step was for James Bennett to buy the land from Eric Bennett for 3 million HKD.

But here, not only did he get ambushed by gangsters, the deal was for a mere 100,000 HKD?

Actually, this made more sense. Eric Bennett scamming James Bennett… Who is Eric Bennett? After all, he’s James Bennett’s blood-related older cousin.

Eric Bennett’s father and Mingda’s boss Paul Bennett are full brothers!

No matter what grudges or entanglements these two families have, even if they haven’t spoken in a decade or two, if they meet in business? James Bennett, who’s been Mingda’s crown prince for over ten years, unless he’s completely brainless, even if he gets scammed by his cousin, it’s not to the point of hiring gangsters to beat him up.

James Bennett is just the crown prince, and in Mingda Group, any check over 500,000 can only be signed by Paul Bennett himself… That alone shows how much control the father has over Mingda. As one of Hong Kong’s top real estate groups, with a squeaky-clean image, any business battle with relatives would definitely be gentle.

But in this world, Brian Carter cut in? In the past few days, he’d already been contacted by reporters arranged by Mark Foster to hype up the story of turning the parking lot into a charity Taoist temple.

If James Bennett, who’s in charge of the land acquisition, checked and found that the troublemaker Little Brian was just a semi-orphan who’d just graduated from high school?? The original owner of the parking lot, Mr. Deng, was at least a respected rural gentry in Sheung Shui. Hiring thugs to cause trouble would be suicide.
