Chapter 1: It Begins with a Coincidence
A red Ferrari drove out from a high-end residential complex, turned left, and then immediately sped onto the wrong side of the road, revving the engine as it shot forward. But just before it was about to crash into a car driving normally, the Ferrari finally managed to swerve in time.
“Bang.”
The Ferrari ended up crashing into a tree by the roadside. Witnessing the accident happen right before his eyes, Brian Carter let out a sigh of relief, because if the Ferrari hadn’t hit the tree, it would have hit him.
His beloved car spared from a collision, shock quickly gave way to delight. Brian Carter whistled, then said with a touch of regret, “Whoa, whoa, whoa, a Ferrari 488. Tsk tsk, that crash cost at least a hundred thousand.”
Although he’d just witnessed a rare car accident, Brian Carter’s hands didn’t stop moving. He tapped on his phone and collected the fare for this ride.
As a part-time ride-hailing driver, he’d seen all kinds of accidents, but it was the first time Brian Carter had ever seen a Ferrari crash into a tree right in front of him.
A woman got out of the Ferrari. To put it simply and directly: she was beautiful. What’s more, she had a pair of long legs—by Brian Carter’s estimate, she was at least 1.75 meters tall. Most importantly, this beauty wasn’t even wearing makeup.
These days, beautiful women aren’t rare; what’s rare is a beautiful woman with no makeup.
A supercar that turns heads, an expensive little accident, and a stunning beauty—these three things combined caused a traffic jam on this narrow road.
It was a minor accident, no one was hurt, and most importantly, the Ferrari that crashed into the tree was blocking his way. So, occupying the best viewing angle, Brian Carter could justifiably admire the beauty.
She walked to the front of the car, looked at the dented hood, thought for a moment, and finally took out her phone.
She made an apologetic gesture toward Brian Carter, then lowered her head to fiddle with her phone.
“That’s more like it. If something happens, call someone to handle it right away.”
Muttering to himself, Brian Carter thought he’d predicted what would happen next. But then his phone chimed, and Brian Carter instinctively tapped it, only to find that he had a customer waiting for a ride—one who was extremely, extremely close by.
He paused, then rolled down his window and stuck his head out.
“Miss, are you the one who called a ride?”
“Did you accept the order?”
She gave Brian Carter a curious look, mainly checking out his car, then immediately said, “Take me to the airport.”
Brian Carter beckoned with a smile. “Hop in.”
“I’m in a hurry. I must get to the airport within forty minutes. Can you make it?”
Brian Carter immediately decided to give up this order. He was on the West Third Ring Road in Beijing. Even though the customer was a beauty, and even though she’d just given him a show, there was no way he could get to the airport in forty minutes.
It was four in the afternoon. Although rush hour hadn’t started yet, with Beijing’s traffic, there was simply no way to make it to the airport in forty minutes.
Unless he sped, but the cost of speeding was too high, and Brian Carter wasn’t about to risk his license for a small gain.
“No way, sorry. You’d better ask someone else. Could you please cancel the order?”
She looked at Brian Carter’s car again, then said confidently, “You’ve modified this BMW M3. Are you into cars?”
Brian Carter grinned. “Yeah, so I’m even less willing to risk getting my license revoked.”
She didn’t hesitate: “Get me there on time and I’ll give you five thousand yuan.”
Brian Carter shook his head like a rattle drum, apologizing, “You really shouldn’t waste time. Either deal with the accident—since you’re blocking me—or hurry up and find someone else.”
“Ten thousand! As long as I get there on time, I’ll give you ten thousand yuan!”
“Uh, well…”
Ten thousand yuan! Brian Carter, whose wallet was already thin, felt his resolve completely shaken. Driving a modified BMW M3 as a taxi—if it wasn’t for fun, it was definitely because he was strapped for cash. Unfortunately, Brian Carter was the latter.
He took a closer look at the woman’s Ferrari. Although it had hit a tree, the damage to the front was minimal and definitely wouldn’t affect driving.
So Brian Carter made up his mind on the spot.
“Let’s take your car. Ten thousand yuan. If we speed, it’s your problem. Deal or no deal?”
“Get in, let’s go!”
The beauty was refreshingly decisive. The only problem was that Brian Carter needed to park his own car. Luckily, there was a spot behind him where he could park without blocking traffic, though he’d definitely get a ticket. He quickly backed his car into the spot.
A two-hundred-yuan fine for a ten-thousand-yuan job—definitely worth it.
