Next, Brian Carter didn’t say another word—not because his pride was hurt, nor because he’d lost interest in the conversation. Teasing a beautiful woman who doesn’t want to talk into laughing and chatting with him is one of life’s great pleasures—how could he give up so easily?
The real reason he stayed silent was simply that there were too many cars on the road. Brian Carter had to focus all his attention on driving. After all, even though there were a bit fewer cars on the Fifth Ring Road, where the speed limit was eighty or ninety kilometers per hour, Brian Carter was still driving at one hundred sixty or seventy. If anything happened at that speed, it could be fatal.
Finally, the airport came into view, and Brian Carter slowed down.
“T3 Terminal.”
Grace Bennett finally spoke.
Brian Carter cleared his throat, then said naturally, “So, it’s now 4:42. It’s been 37 minutes since you got in the car, so I’ve definitely met your requirement to get to the airport within forty minutes. Would you mind settling the fare now?”
They were almost at the terminal drop-off. Brian Carter didn’t want to be stuck waiting in the car. He’d been seriously speeding the whole way—if the car got impounded, that was fine, Grace Bennett didn’t care anyway, but if he got detained, that would be a real problem. So he needed to get out of there fast.
Grace Bennett opened her shoulder bag, glanced inside, and then, with a perfectly natural attitude, said, “I didn’t bring my wallet.”
Chapter 2: This Plot Is Really Dramatic
These days, not having a wallet isn’t a big deal—as long as you have a phone.
“No problem, transferring by phone is super convenient. How about we add each other as friends?”
“I don’t have any money on my phone either. I just got back from abroad, and I don’t have a domestic bank card. There’s just a little pocket money from friends on my phone.”
Although Brian Carter enjoyed chatting about life with beautiful women, that didn’t mean he lost his head every time he saw one—especially since this one was already taken. So the money had to be paid, no exceptions.
“Come on, lady, that’s not cool. We’re already here and now you tell me you don’t have money? Let’s not even talk about the money for now—first and foremost, you have to be honest, right?”
“Drive to the parking lot and wait for me.”
The car had already reached the terminal entrance. Even though he was a bit annoyed, Brian Carter still pulled over. After Grace Bennett tossed out those words, she immediately got out and rushed into the terminal.
Grace Bennett was in such a hurry that she didn’t even close the car door.
“Come on, what is this?”
At the terminal drop-off, you’re only allowed to stop briefly. Brian Carter had no choice but to get out and close the car door himself. But as he was about to get back in, he glanced behind him and saw two police cars with flashing lights weaving through the traffic.
Brian Carter instinctively sensed trouble.
Exceeding the speed limit by less than 70% results in a 500 yuan fine and 12 demerit points; exceeding by 70% but less than 100% is a 1,000 yuan fine and 12 points; exceeding by more than 100% is a 2,000 yuan fine and 12 points, and may also result in revocation of the driver’s license.
Thinking back to all the speed cameras he’d blown past, and the penalties for speeding, Brian Carter couldn’t help but shiver.
He’d definitely gone over 50%, and over 100% was a regular occurrence. If the police caught him now...
Brian Carter instinctively looked in the direction he was about to drive, and saw several police officers hurrying over.
He didn’t dare think any further. Brian Carter didn’t even bother turning off the car—he slipped out and headed straight for the terminal entrance.
The car wasn’t his anyway, and it was bound to be towed by the police. He couldn’t lose it, so there was no point worrying about it now. The important thing was to keep his license.
After passing through the security check, Brian Carter rushed into the terminal. He immediately took off his oversized sunglasses and casually undid his topknot, letting his hair fall loose.
Brian Carter didn’t rush to look for Grace Bennett. Instead, he went into the restroom, took off his T-shirt, and put it back on inside out—turning the orange shirt into a black one.
Some things had become second nature to Brian Carter since childhood, so after changing his appearance as quickly as possible, he swaggered out of the restroom.
If he could find Grace Bennett, great; if not, so be it. Brian Carter figured he needed to get out of the airport as soon as possible. Losing ten thousand yuan was a shame, but it wasn’t worth risking everything. If his license got revoked, no amount of money could buy it back.
But Grace Bennett, with her long legs and striking height, was just too eye-catching. With just a casual glance, Brian Carter spotted her pacing back and forth in front of the check-in counter.
Since he’d seen her, he figured he should at least say something and try to get his money. Brian Carter jogged over to Grace Bennett’s side, but before he could speak, Grace Bennett suddenly stopped and stared motionless at the people lining up to check in.
Brian Carter stood beside Grace Bennett and followed her gaze, spotting a man and a woman holding hands, chatting and laughing.
Suddenly, Grace Bennett began to tremble.
Something was definitely up. Brian Carter sighed inwardly, deciding to do what he needed to do and then get out of there. It was all too easy to guess what was about to happen, and if he stuck around, he’d just end up feeling awkward.
“Hey, beautiful, I’m telling you, the police are here. I know you must be feeling all kinds of things right now, but if we get caught by the cops, that’ll be even worse. As for the money... forget it, I don’t want it anymore. Let’s just get out of here, okay? Did you hear me?”
