Chapter 4

Grace Bennett was obviously not listening to what he was saying.

  “Eric Palmer!”

It was over. Grace Bennett finally couldn’t hold back and shouted, drawing the attention of everyone nearby.

Brian Carter immediately covered his face.

The people waiting in line turned their heads, and then the man whose arm was being held by his female companion instantly widened his eyes.

“Grace Bennett? You—you, what are you doing here, I…”

Grace Bennett strode up to the shocked man, then looked at the two still holding hands, and suddenly smiled, “Who is she? Your sister?”

“Is there any girl who holds hands with her brother? I’m his wife! Who is she?”

Brian Carter couldn’t stand it anymore. It was obvious that Grace Bennett had mistaken her own identity—the other woman was the real wife.

“She—she’s my friend, an online friend, just an online friend…”

The man named Eric Palmer started to panic, while Grace Bennett took a deep breath, and then, no longer trembling, said calmly, “Girlfriend! I’m his girlfriend, and I always was before I met you two.”

The woman looked at Eric Palmer, then said angrily, “What’s going on!”

Eric Palmer looked panicked and said, “She and I just chatted online, there’s nothing else between us, I really didn’t do anything, honey, listen to me, I really didn’t do anything!”

Grace Bennett said calmly, “That’s not what you told me. You said you only loved me, and that every other woman was ugly compared to me. I didn’t expect that everything you said was a lie. Since you’re already married, you lied to me…”

The hands that were holding finally let go, and Eric Palmer’s wife broke free from his grip, then said angrily, “We just got married, we’re about to go on our honeymoon, and you pull this on me! Let go of me, I’m going home, I want a divorce!”

Eric Palmer was clearly stunned. He held onto his wife, refusing to let go, then looked at Grace Bennett with a pleading expression, “Grace Bennett, we only met once in England, aren’t you setting me up? I didn’t do anything to you!”

Grace Bennett said in despair, “You said you loved me, you said you wanted to marry me, to travel the world with me. I came from England to see you, but you’re going on a honeymoon with someone else. You liar, you took everything from me!”

After Grace Bennett said this, the newlywed wife completely lost it. She struggled to push away Eric Palmer, who was holding her, while Eric Palmer tried desperately to hold her back and stop her from leaving.

For a moment, it was utter chaos. The passengers waiting to check in all stepped aside, and riot police quickly surrounded them.

“What’s going on? Let go! Please don’t disrupt public order. Come with me, or I’ll have to use force.”

The police began scolding the two who were tussling. Brian Carter quietly backed away—he didn’t want to watch this melodrama anymore, he just wanted to leave as soon as possible.

At that moment, Grace Bennett suddenly lunged forward and punched Eric Palmer in the face, shouting in grief and anger, “You liar! You bastard!”

Eric Palmer was left with a face full of blood, his nose gushing. No one expected Grace Bennett to suddenly get physical, and before the police could pin her down, she squatted on the ground and started crying.

  “You liar, you bastard…”

Who could bear to be rough with such a beautiful woman, especially one who now looked completely harmless? So the police around Grace Bennett didn’t lay a hand on her, but instead tried to comfort her.

“Don’t cry, come with us. What’s the point of making a scene here? Wouldn’t it be better to talk things out somewhere quiet? Come on, get up and come with us.”

It should be fine. Brian Carter didn’t want to meddle anymore, and besides, there was nothing he could do about this mess. Although it was a pity to lose ten thousand yuan, it was definitely time to leave.

He turned around, about to stride away from this place of trouble, when a hand landed squarely on his shoulder.

“Little thief, think you can escape my eyes? You’re too green. That’s him—cuff him!”

Brian Carter’s hands were twisted behind his back, and he was handcuffed.

Brian Carter didn’t resist, he just looked confused and said, “What are you doing? What’s this about?”

“Don’t play dumb, it’s you! That Ferrari outside—you parked it, don’t try to deny it. You changed clothes pretty fast, huh? Must be a pro.”

The one restraining Brian Carter was a man in his forties, dressed in plain clothes, but there were at least six or seven police officers nearby, and they were clearly after him.

  “Is it him?”

  “No mistake.”

“Check the surveillance footage for confirmation. Take him back to the station first, and tow the stolen car. Mr. Harris, thank you, it’s all thanks to your sharp eyes. We’ll talk later, we’re taking them back now.”

The moment he heard “stolen car,” Brian Carter panicked and shouted, “Let me make it clear, I have nothing to do with that car! I’m just a designated driver, the real owner isn’t me!”

“All right, she can’t get away either. Take them all!”

The officer in front of Brian Carter gave the order, so Grace Bennett was also handcuffed, and Eric Palmer, who had finally stopped struggling, stared in shock at everything happening before him.

Grace Bennett pointed at Eric Palmer with her handcuffed hand, crying, “He gave me the car.”
