Chapter 10

David Clark said with a smile, “But I’m not afraid of a low salary! As long as I have one, it’s fine!”

  What a rascal!

The man was both amused and exasperated, staring into David Clark’s eyes, then slapped his thigh hard: “You’re the one!”

“Really?!” David Clark immediately got excited. “You mean I passed?!”

“Hahaha.” Seeing David Clark’s expression, the middle-aged man’s mood improved as well, and he laughed, “Kid, you actually have some insight. It’s settled then. The job lasts two months, monthly salary is 2,400. Is that okay?”

“No problem, no problem!” David Clark nodded vigorously. “So do we sign the contract now? When do I start?”

“Sure.” The man took out a contract, wrote “2400” in the salary column, and handed it to David Clark: “Take a look. If there’s no problem, just sign it.”

“Okay, let me check.” Taking the contract, David Clark glanced over it briefly. There were basically no issues, so he signed right away.

“You’re a straightforward guy.” The man smiled and signed his own name on the contract as well. David Clark peeked and saw his name was Eric Bolton, so he figured this must be the company’s HR.

After putting away the contract, Eric Bolton handed David Clark a badge that read “Lighting Assistant,” then said, “Today’s Saturday. Go home and get ready. You’ll officially start next Monday. The crew is in Hengdian. When you arrive, just show your work badge to the staff.” He paused, thought for a moment, and added, “Oh, right, if we’re short-handed, you might need to play an extra. Just be mentally prepared.”

Playing an extra is pretty easy, and it’s a chance to experience being an actor. David Clark agreed right away: “Alright, if there’s nothing else, I’ll go get ready?”

“Yeah, go ahead. Wish you a smooth start at work.”

  “Thank you.”

Leaving the talent market, David Clark threw his head back and laughed three times: “Everything’s going my way today, awesome!”

Damn, I still remember that stupid dog chasing me down three streets yesterday. Just wait, I’m coming for revenge!

He headed straight to the park, and soon David Clark arrived at the spot where he’d encountered that dog. After searching for a while, he spotted it. Gotcha, you little thing!

“Meow-woof…” The mongrel that had been so fierce yesterday whimpered as soon as it saw David Clark, shrinking back and squatting on the ground like a wronged little wife. With that expression, who could bear to bully it anymore?

So David Clark was a bit frustrated. Looks like there’s not much hope for revenge today!

Forget it, you look so pitiful. I’ll be merciful today. Wait here, I’ll go buy you a sausage!

David Clark jogged to the supermarket in the park, bought a sausage, and brought it back. He tossed it to the dog: “Even though you chased me half to death yesterday, I’m in a good mood today, so this is a reward for you. No need to thank me!”

“Meow-woof…” The mongrel gulped down the sausage in a few bites, then wagged its tail and came over, biting onto David Clark’s pant leg.

“Hey, are you biting the hand that feeds you?!” David Clark raised his hand, ready to reason with it, but before he could react, the dog dragged him off at a run!

“What’s going on?” The dog was strong, and David Clark was pulled more than ten meters away. When the dog finally let go, David Clark looked around: “You dragged me here to mug me or what?!”

“Woof woof!” The dog barked twice at the bushes.

Following the dog’s gaze, David Clark spotted something shiny in the bushes.

It was a cell phone—the latest rose gold iPhone 6S!

Chapter 8: Over Three Thousand Photos!

  David Clark was completely stunned!

He looked at the phone, then at the dog: “Damn! You must be a time traveler, right?”

Give you a sausage, you give me a phone—what a deal!

David Clark looked around. Not a soul in sight. He walked over, picked up the phone, and examined it: “Today really is my lucky day, a phone falling from the sky, wahahaha!”

It was clear the owner had taken great care of the phone; there wasn’t a single scratch on it. On the back was a snowflake pattern, very pretty.

He pulled out his own phone—the one he got for topping up his account—and compared it to the iPhone…

  The difference was huge…

“Did someone know I didn’t have a good phone and send this to me on purpose?” David Clark chuckled, then shook his head. “But a gentleman doesn’t take what isn’t his. I don’t know who lost it, they must be anxious. I’ll hold onto it for now, and return it when the owner calls.”

To be fair, David Clark could be a bit hot-tempered sometimes, but his values were solid. He would never take what didn’t belong to him.

Of course, just because he wouldn’t keep it didn’t mean he couldn’t fiddle with it a bit.

“The password is four digits?” David Clark looked at the passcode screen on the iPhone, suddenly interested. “Let’s see if I can crack it. Let’s try, hehe.”

He was just doing it for fun, after all, an iPhone 6S costs over five thousand, and with his current finances, he couldn’t afford one. He’d never really played with one before.

So, out of curiosity, he randomly tried a few combinations—

“1234? Hmm, nope…” “1314? Not that either…” “What other meaningful numbers are there? 5438? 7456?”
