He spat fiercely, and David Thompson advanced like a wild beast.
When a person fully enters a combat state, he becomes more terrifying than any other creature. In the words of other lifeforms who rule the galaxy in the Maya system, Earthlings are the most warlike combat beings in the universe. They may look peaceful, but they are actually the most terrifying monsters.
As an ancient Earth saying goes, a dog that bares its teeth doesn’t bite; something that looks scary on the outside isn’t necessarily the most dangerous.
At this moment, David Thompson was just like a wild beast.
“Club monster” was David Thompson’s nickname for the oak tree demon, the lowest-level creature in this devil forest. They had low intelligence, poor combat ability, and looked frightening, but in reality posed no real threat—especially after killing a few of them, David Thompson could easily take them down... The only problem was, this didn’t provide David Thompson with anything to eat.
For the first time since entering this hellish place, he felt a bit hungry. He knew that as the fighting continued, the hunger would only grow stronger, accompanied by a decline in stamina. There was no way this could last a whole week.
Finding food had become as important as staying safe.
Everything in the forest looked strange to David Thompson; each thing seemed edible, but trying them recklessly could be dangerous. Suddenly, David Thompson remembered the liquid from the oak tree demons. Every time he killed one, a green, blood-like fluid would flow out. When it got on his skin, there was no particular sensation, which meant it wasn’t corrosive or poisonous—otherwise, his body would have reacted. Although the things here were bizarre, they should still be organic in structure. Compared to trying even weirder things, he might as well try this. After all, at worst, it would just be a minor issue.
He took down another oak tree demon. Although it didn’t have any particular taste, it felt disgusting. Unfortunately, he had no choice. He tried a small sip... He couldn’t describe the flavor, but it definitely didn’t suit an Earthling’s palate. Ten minutes later, David Thompson didn’t feel any different, so he knew this was acceptable.
In a dangerous environment, maintaining stamina is extremely important. Bad taste was no obstacle.
A single oak tree demon was enough to make David Thompson’s hunger disappear. He understood that at least he wouldn’t starve to death before he died.
But this was only the beginning of the forest. After the first day, David Thompson discovered a problem: it was impossible to stay on the outskirts. The forest was pushing him forward, and as he went deeper, the monsters became more and more varied... For the first time, he realized that the hideous oak tree demons were actually his favorites.
The giant beasts inside weren’t the scariest. Survival didn’t require killing every monster—one hundred David Thompsons wouldn’t be enough to fill the gap between their teeth. If he couldn’t win, he’d run. The most dangerous were the smaller, extremely fast, or even highly poisonous creatures—those things with seventy or eighty legs that gave him goosebumps just by looking at them. You could say that in this forest, David Thompson truly experienced forest life.
A week might feel slow for others, but for David Thompson it passed in the blink of an eye, because he had no energy to think about time. He had already forgotten about the devil gold, forgotten the reason he came here—he had only one thought: to survive!
These days, David Thompson had used almost every attack method he knew, becoming wilder than a beast, his body covered in scars, his eyes flashing with a devilish green light. Right now, he was facing a gigantic monster. The surrounding trees had been flattened by this creature. It wasn’t that David Thompson didn’t want to run—he was already trapped by the monster. Any powerful creature in this devil forest had this ability. David Thompson had once escaped by luck, but this time he was surrounded. This was the most dangerous moment he’d faced so far, but even so, David Thompson didn’t feel the slightest fear, because the monster would never let him go just because he was afraid. All those useless interests could be discarded in battle.
Roar...
A violent shockwave exploded, and at the same time, a huge fireball blasted toward David Thompson. But he didn’t resist the shockwave; instead, he protected his vital areas and steadily retreated. Just as the fireball was about to hit, he suddenly dropped to the ground and, like an insect, shot toward the monster at high speed.
Just a push from his ankles allowed David Thompson to move close to the ground. There was no teacher for this—it was something he’d figured out in real combat. It wasn’t pretty, but it could save his life.
Black smoke rose from David Thompson’s back, carrying the smell of roasted meat. His hair had long since been burned off, but David Thompson only frowned slightly. This monster could not only breathe fire, but its whole body was incredibly tough. Even a full-force attack with an alloy blade could only leave a shallow scratch, and after several probing attempts, he still hadn’t found the creature’s weakness.
Chapter 15: Super Soldier
Logically, it shouldn’t be like this. The devil gold had said that all these monsters must have a weakness. Where was this monster’s weak point? It was incredibly tough—he’d tried every weakness he could think of. David Thompson had paid a heavy price for it, and now only sixty percent of his strength remained, while the opponent showed no sign of weakening at all.
If this continued, it would truly be a dead end.
