Chapter 16

“Luoxin District, I know that place very well—I actually live in that area. But miss, are you sure you didn’t get the temple’s name wrong? I’ve lived there for several years and never heard of a Guideng Temple,” the square-faced uncle answered seriously.

Because of his job, he was extremely familiar with the surrounding area. Especially his own neighborhood, Luoxin District—exaggerating a bit, he’d set foot on every inch of land there. But the name Guideng Temple was completely unfamiliar to him.

“Huh?” Olivia Bennett’s little face flushed red again, but she quickly replied with determination, “Then, sir, please just take me to Luoxin District!”

She planned to ask around once she got there. If that didn’t work… she’d have to bite the bullet and call her dad. But that was a last resort—she wouldn’t use it unless absolutely necessary.

“Miss, are you in a hurry? If not, you could take the bus to Luoxin District. Taking a taxi would be a bit expensive—it’s over two hours’ drive,” the square-faced uncle explained.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to make the money, but a two-hour drive would cost quite a bit. The girl clearly didn’t know the distance, and if they didn’t clarify the distance and price before getting in, there could be disputes when they arrived.

“It’s fine, just take me there,” Olivia Bennett gave a shy smile. Money was no issue for her.

After confirming, the square-faced uncle was secretly delighted. This trip would earn him a good sum.

“Alright then, hop in. Put your suitcase in the trunk,” the square-faced uncle said as he opened the trunk, then pushed open the car door to get out and help with the suitcase.

After all, the suitcase was huge—how could this little girl have the strength to lift it?

But when the square-faced uncle turned around after opening the car door, his mouth formed an O shape and stayed open for a long time.

He saw the seemingly delicate girl lift the huge suitcase with one hand—yes, lift, not drag, hug, or hoist. She held it up like a small tray, effortlessly placing it into the trunk with one hand.

Could it be that the suitcase just looked big but was actually light?

As he was thinking this, he felt the back of the car sink slightly. Having driven a taxi for years, he was one with his car. The moment the car dipped, he could roughly estimate the weight.

This suitcase must weigh over sixty kilos—maybe even more, about as much as an adult man.

Is this girl a weightlifter? She’s got natural strength, the square-faced uncle thought, swallowing hard. Luckily, he was a decent guy—if someone with bad intentions tried anything, they’d probably get taken down instantly by this girl.

Olivia Bennett had no idea how shocking her casual action was. After putting the suitcase away, she took two steps and sat in the back seat of the taxi.

“Miss, you’re pretty strong. Sit tight,” the square-faced uncle chuckled, stepped on the gas, and the red taxi pulled out of the driveway, heading toward Luoxin District.

Jiuzhou Group One

Lingdie Island Olivia Bennett (online via mobile): “Senior Beihe, I’m on my way to Luoxin District, but the taxi driver doesn’t know about Guideng Temple. I plan to ask the locals when I get there—maybe someone will know.”

“Alright, I’ve asked a few people, but so far no one knows. Anyway, I’ll contact you if I hear anything,” Logan Carter replied.

“Thank you, senior.” Olivia Bennett replied with a smiley face, clenching her fist in secret. With Logan Carter’s response, her anxious heart calmed a little—after all, this was her first time traveling far from home alone. Before, her father always accompanied her, or she only went around Lingdie Island.

It all felt a bit exciting.

The above chat log hadn’t been seen by Ethan Brooks yet… because, with nothing better to do, he’d gone to the bookstore to read for free again.

He picked up the thick book he’d rented last time—he still hadn’t finished it. For him, reading books just wasn’t the same unless he was freeloading at the store.

It was like eating “Kangshuaige” instant noodles—eating them dry and eating them cooked are two completely different experiences.

Before leaving, he absentmindedly brought his phone along—Ethan Brooks usually didn’t have the habit of carrying his phone.

Nowadays, phones have more and more functions, and their size has grown accordingly. It’s almost impossible to find a phone that only makes calls anymore. Because his phone was so big, Ethan Brooks basically used it as a landline.

“Seven percent battery left—should be enough.”

The battery was low, but for just answering calls or texts, it should last him the afternoon.

Thinking this, he took his phone and the rented book and happily headed to the bookstore to read.

……

Time flew by.

About an hour and a half later.

“That’s odd—did I get out of bed on the wrong side this morning?” Ethan Brooks wondered as he put the thick book back on the shelf—he just couldn’t get into it!

Whether it was a novel, driving theory, manga, or a classic, nothing held his attention. This was the first time in his life he’d experienced this.

“Weird,” Ethan Brooks muttered, sighing as he randomly grabbed a book and headed to the rental counter.
