Chapter 5

Living at school himself, Summer staying at her aunt's house, with both kids settled, where should this middle-aged man live?

In the end, Frank Morgan didn’t reveal the truth about this matter.

In fact, for Henry Morgan, being willing to make such a sacrifice was both a father’s duty and an honor. He wanted his son to know: go study without worry, and whatever you can’t handle, I’ll help you solve.

Frank Morgan also knew that exposing the truth would only make Henry Morgan feel desolate and ashamed. After all, what man doesn’t want to be the awesome dad who can fix anything for his son?

Frank Morgan couldn’t say it out loud. Others might not respect his dad, but he himself never could!

This shabby little house—so what if he doesn’t live here? At most, it’ll be three years. Once he masters magic, he’ll have everything.

In this society, magic reigns supreme!

He was determined to become a mighty and upright mage!

……

The two months of summer vacation flew by, and Frank Morgan felt like he had completely immersed himself in a sea of books.

The library at Tianlan Magic High School had every kind of book, and the ones on magic were as complex and numerous as those on science—a true ocean of knowledge.

But Frank Morgan had gained a lot. At the very least, he was no longer illiterate… oh, magically illiterate. He had basically mastered everything taught in the nine-year compulsory magic education, and felt as if he had achieved the momentum of Zhang Wuji mastering the Great Shift and stepping onto the Bright Peak.

September 1st was the start of school. For all magic students, this was an incredibly important day, because it not only marked the most crucial step into becoming a mage, but also determined which element they would awaken to!

Awakening, as the name suggests, is to awaken the latent power within the body.

“Kid, good luck! It’s best if you awaken the fire element—that’ll give you a big advantage among magic students. The other elements are okay too, but in terms of combat power for beginner mages, fire is still the best. Oh, rock is good too… wind is also fine…” said the head librarian, Mr. Cooper.

Frank Morgan responded, but didn’t pay him much attention. This old man could go on forever once he started talking.

To be honest, Frank Morgan hadn’t slept all night. For him, today’s awakening wasn’t just a change of fate, but an unprecedented experience. In his original world, magic simply didn’t exist, but today he could truly grasp it.

His heart was pounding with excitement!

……

Frank Morgan was in Class 8 of the first year, student number 48—the last one!

He had basically gotten in through the back door.

The lower your student number, the higher your score on the magic entrance exam. It’s said that people like that, after awakening to an element, train faster than normal because they have a thorough understanding of magic knowledge, making cultivation smooth and easy.

Unfortunately, the number 1 student in Class 8 was Frank Morgan’s old classmate—Brian Murray.

Brian Murray was actually from the Mu family, apparently a collateral branch living at the manor. The reason he always looked down on Frank Morgan was naturally because, in the Mu family manor, he was considered a young master, while Frank Morgan was the son of a servant—also a servant.

Unfortunately, as a collateral relative, he wasn’t on the same level as someone like Nancy Murray, who was like a little princess. Brian Murray used to try all sorts of ways to please Nancy Murray, but she never paid him any attention.

Brian Murray had excellent magic grades and was probably a key training target in the Mu family. It was said that if he awakened the family’s ice element, his cultivation speed would increase several times, since the Mu family had so many resources that even a collateral like Brian Murray couldn’t be compared to ordinary people.

“Students, welcome to the school! I’m sure many of you have been waiting for this exciting moment. Before we begin, I have a lot to say to you.” On the grand magic field, all 1,500 new students were divided into twenty classes, standing in neat squares—a truly magnificent sight!

“Students, do you know why you become mages?”

“No matter what position you hold as a mage, never forget: our most important mission is to explore the development of humanity and to protect mankind. Don’t forget that outside your comfortable cities, countless monsters are eyeing us hungrily!”

The principal spoke for a long, long time, but finally got to what everyone wanted to hear most.

“All right, the awakening begins today. I hope you all become the shining stars of magic in the future!”

As soon as the old principal finished speaking, the students on the field could no longer contain their excitement.

Who wouldn’t want to control blazing flames full of destructive power? Who wouldn’t want to command ice to freeze all evil? Who wouldn’t want to ride the winds and soar through the world? Who wouldn’t want to summon earth and stone to resist invaders?

In countless stories, videos, and movies, there were so many heroes for them to admire, and they longed to become such mages. Today was the first step on their journey as mages—whether to dominate the wilds outside the city, or to wield supreme power in the magical metropolis…

(Feeling good, so here’s another chapter! Starting a new book, just because I can!)
