Chapter 12

It’s like an electric wire—electricity exists inside the stardust, and to release that energy, you have to connect the stars into a line and channel it into the mage’s body...

Unfortunately, none of these lightning-element stars are obedient. If you leave them alone, it’s fine, but the moment you try to communicate with them, they scatter at lightning speed, like they’ve eaten five hundred pounds of Xuanmai gum—damn, they just won’t stop!

“How am I supposed to do this? When the hell will I ever master my Thunder Seal skill?” Frank Morgan muttered in frustration.

The basic skill of the lightning element is—Thunder Seal.

This skill is probably the most practical among all the basic magic skills. Once you learn it and master it, you basically have outstanding combat power.

But unfortunately, it’s not that easy to learn.

Lightning-element stars are extremely active. Getting them to stay still isn’t something you can accomplish in just a day or two.

“Right now, I can’t even control a single star, and I’m supposed to control seven at once... This road is really a long one.”

Sure enough, studying and learning magic are the same—not something you can master in just a day or two.

……

The weather turned colder, and thick down jackets had already replaced the girls’ short skirts and stockings. Unknowingly, it had become the season in the south where, without heating, you freeze like a dog.

“Achoo~~~~~~ Damn, if I’d known, I would’ve picked the Fire Element Consort’s card first. Maybe this winter would be a bit easier.” Early in the morning, while practicing control on the rooftop, Frank Morgan cursed.

After more than a month of practice, Frank Morgan could already control four stars.

This process of controlling the stars... how to put it, it’s kind of like a high-difficulty version of dominoes.

That is, you have to carefully set down four dominoes in one go, making sure they don’t wobble at all—that counts as a small step forward.

If even one star-domino isn’t set right, the whole line topples, and you have to start all over again!

That’s how stars are. First, you have to lock onto a star and use your willpower to command it to stay still. During this process, you must be completely focused—even if the star’s mental resistance gives you a splitting headache, you have to grit your teeth and hold on, without the slightest distraction.

Only by gritting your teeth and focusing your mind to command and wrestle with the star can you get those unruly lightning stars to behave and obediently hover in place.

And after you get one star to behave, you have to split your focus again to do the same with the second unruly star, making sure it’s firmly under control too.

If you accidentally spend too much effort on the second star and don’t keep pressing down on the first, the previously obedient star will immediately fly off, taking the second one with it, and all your efforts will be wasted.

The teachers had said before that this step of controlling the stars is extremely difficult. On one hand, it’s very hard to manipulate; on the other, it requires mages to have enough mental strength to sustain it.

Like Frank Morgan, practicing control every day—if he fails even once, he feels mentally exhausted. At most, he can practice for two hours a day before he’s on the verge of a mental breakdown: ringing in his ears, blurry vision, and a mind in chaos.

At that point, he can’t meditate or practice control anymore.

To put it bluntly, practicing “control” burns through mana like crazy—one bar of mana lasts at most two hours.

Chapter 9: The Seventh Star

“Four stars now. Controlling five at once is even harder. Sigh, I wonder if I can manage to control all seven of these little troublemakers and connect them into a star path before the end of the semester... Speaking of which, Monkey said he can only practice control for one hour a week at most, and even five more minutes would make him collapse. I don’t know why I could practice for two hours right from the start—could it be because I awakened two elements?” Frank Morgan muttered to himself.

“The mana cost for controlling a star should be the same, so does that mean my mana pool is twice as big as Monkey and the others?”

Every magic student’s mental strength is limited. Each attempt to control a star drains their mind. With the current level of mental strength among students, it seems most people can only practice control for one hour...

With an extra hour of practice out of nowhere, plus Frank Morgan’s daily hard work, his progress had already surpassed that of his classmates by a lot. Even the most outstanding student in the class, Brian Murray—according to his lackeys—had only managed to control three stars.

You need seven stars to truly succeed. Frank Morgan had already controlled four, and was likely to break through to five within the week. It seemed that awakening two elements didn’t just let Frank Morgan play two accounts—it even gave him a longer anti-addiction timer than everyone else!

That’s a perfect advantage!!

Reaching the peak of life and marrying a rich, beautiful woman was just around the corner!

……

……

Class started promptly at eight. The first period was the Demonology class, and the teacher in charge was the homeroom teacher of the neighboring class, John Bolton.
