Chapter 14

Julia Reed was a little flustered by David Harris's compliment, feeling a ripple in her heart and a bit embarrassed. In fact, with her looks, she was used to being praised by many people, but she rarely communicated so smoothly with others—just a few words and all barriers seemed to disappear, making things feel very natural. At that moment, Julia Reed noticed David Harris's bag placed nearby, and her heart skipped a beat. Was it because of what happened on the bus earlier, or was it because of his familiar clothes?

With these thoughts in mind, Julia Reed looked at David Harris's bag and asked, “Your bag is quite unique. Do you know what brand it is?”

In fact, David Harris had already noticed Julia Reed glancing at his clothes and bag. He was sure she must have seen them before, but of course, he couldn’t tell her that the factory was specifically set up to design and make clothes just for him.

“It was a gift from a relative. By the way, my name is David Harris.” David Harris thought to himself that he wasn’t lying—the place was indeed managed by a distant relative of the Lin family. He then looked at Julia Reed with a questioning gaze, steering the conversation away.

“Julia Reed.” Julia Reed replied, still a bit unwilling to let it go. “Is your relative in the UK?”

“He always mails things to me, so I’m not really sure.” David Harris didn’t want to dwell on this topic any longer. Seeing that it was almost mealtime, he said, “Since we’ll all be living together under one roof from now on, let me treat you today. Let’s go out and grab something to eat. I haven’t had anything since I got off the plane.”

Julia Reed was clearly not used to communal living, so she quickly shook her head. “No, thank you. I… still need to unpack and prepare my lessons.”

As she spoke, Julia Reed backed out of the room, her mind preoccupied with the day’s events and thinking about David Harris's clothes and bag. Distracted while answering David Harris, she didn’t notice the threshold and tripped over it, her body suddenly falling backward.

“Ah…” Julia Reed was startled, instinctively bracing herself with her hands as she landed on the floor. Luckily, she didn’t fall completely.

The accident happened so quickly that David Harris, who was tidying up, didn’t have time to react. By the time he turned around, Julia Reed was already sitting on the floor.

“Did you hurt yourself?” David Harris hurried over.

“I’m fine… really, I’m fine.” Julia Reed shook her head quickly, her face already flushed. What was wrong with her today? Embarrassed, she got up in a hurry, but as soon as she stood, she suddenly staggered.

“Careful!” David Harris quickly reached out to steady her.

As David Harris's hand touched Julia Reed's arm, her body tensed up, and she instinctively tried to shake him off. She wanted to stand up and get away, but the movement only made the pain worse, and her expression changed dramatically.

“Don’t move.” Seeing how tense she was, David Harris frowned slightly. Her reaction was a bit too intense—clearly, she was afraid of physical contact with the opposite sex. Noticing her foot, David Harris simply wrapped his arm around her waist and lifted her onto the sofa, pressing his left hand gently on her waist.

Nervous and wanting to struggle, Julia Reed suddenly felt a numbness spread through her body, her upper body going almost numb.

“Your tendon is out of place,” David Harris said as he pressed on Julia Reed's foot, pushing and pressing firmly.

  “Crack—”

  “Ah—”

With a cracking sound, the tendon was back in place, followed by a cry of pain from Julia Reed. In the next instant, her eyes were red from the pain.

“All done. Just walk slowly for the next couple of days.” With that, David Harris went straight into his room and closed the door behind him.

Lesson preparation—she’s a teacher, David Harris thought as he casually walked to the bedside. The view outside was really nice; he could see Half-Moon Lake at a glance, with quite a few people strolling and practicing martial arts nearby.

After adjusting his mood a bit, David Harris stopped thinking about other things and began practicing the Embryonic Breathing Technique. The Nine Limits of Human Potential, the Unseen Heights—there must be other existences beyond, but why did every member of the Lin family die after breaking through the ninth limit? And vaguely, David Harris seemed to sense something. This feeling always came to him whenever he gained some insight while practicing the Embryonic Breathing Technique, but for now, he couldn’t grasp or understand it.

The Embryonic Breathing Technique was, from the very beginning, a method to enter a prenatal, innate state. Although the early stages were just simulation and slow comprehension, it broke the conventional ways of martial arts cultivation. Even those at the Unseen Heights couldn’t achieve this.

The Embryonic Breathing Technique was David Harris's greatest secret. He had never told anyone—not because he didn’t trust them, but because it was too unusual and could bring enormous trouble.

Practicing the Embryonic Breathing Technique in a normal state was like meditating in silence; most of the time, progress was barely noticeable and extremely slow. But if there was any clear breakthrough, it almost always meant his mysterious inner energy would improve. David Harris had experienced this five times since childhood, which was why he had now reached the fifth limit of human potential.

Although progress was slow when practicing the Embryonic Breathing Technique, any achievement would trigger a qualitative leap in his mysterious inner energy, allowing it to break through bottlenecks and improve rapidly. That was why David Harris spent most of his time cultivating this technique.
